Even with the pounding thunder of his hooves Rowan's words still echoed. ”oisin! don't, no—oisin wait, please,” Over and over and over. But he couldn't stay any longer, he couldn't be in his skin anymore. He had to run. It was one of the deepest and strongest instinct within his guardian. Running kept you away from danger, running took you to food and water. Run with the herd or die alone. Each breath was in perfect balance with each bound. Huge gasping breaths rushed in and out of his lungs billows of hot steam rushing from his nostrils. He leapt over logs and creeks as if they were nothing, even with the aide of the wind he wondered if the fae could keep up with him.

Rowan...

God he hoped he could understand. He'd spent almost half of his life as an animal, and it was no easy task to just simply go back to being a person. The feelings and emotions that came with it. He couldn't retreat into his guardian when he walked in his skin, there was no buffer between him and all of the sorrow that had compounded over his life. Perhaps it would have been smarter to stay and grieve , but until now Oisin had, had no one. Only the herd, and the herd would have done nothing to help him. It was just easier to run.

Some might have seen this as running from his problems, but he wasn't. It was a way of clearing his mind, centering himself. He didn't want to leave, he wanted nothing more then to be at Rowan's side holding his hand, wondering just how red his cheeks were. He'd felt the fae return the kiss, heard the little sound he made, even felt the jump in his pulse. He'd felt something for the fae some time ago, even as an elk there had been a connection. He hated that he'd just left, right after something so earth shatter, world stopping, life changing. The feel of his fingers curling into the shirt, the sting of his lips the feel of his cheek and hair were still so fresh and vivid.

The elk only slowed his run when his breaths finally started to ache, a froth at the corners of his mouth and each breath was a heavy gasping grunt. His muscles shivered and twitched from it all, tired but full of energy at the same time. He felt his heart the blood rushing in his veins. This was the life he knew. The ground under his hooves the trees above him. This was home, where he felt he belonged. But in his heart of hearts Rowan called to him and he so desperately wanted to be apart of his world. He wanted to walk in both, but he felt the process would take him, would Rowan wait? Would he be willing to let Oisin go if he needed to run, to get away from his skin like he'd just done, or would he take it wrong, thinking it was Oisin wanting away from him? He hoped he didn't feel that way, Rowan had done nothing wrong.

"Please wait for me Rowan. Please have patience for me." he whispered in his mind.

It was a day and a half that Oisin spent away and the better part of that was just getting back. When an elk got going they would run for miles and miles. It was late, or early depending on your view of time when he found his way back to the cabin. He'd kept the clothes he'd been wearing, up in a tree, happy to find them still there. Shifting, they were cold against his now bare skin. Entering the cabin he found the fae asleep in a chair by the window facing the forest where Oisin had left. His heart fluttered and ached, had he been waiting for him this entire time? Carefully, quietly, he scooped the fae into his arms, blankets and all. Making his way to the couch he sat down back into the niche of the couch letting Rowan with his back to Oisin's chest. The elk's arms wrapped through way around the fae holding him close, waiting for him to wake up.

Rowan had never been gifted with patience, nor the ability to stave off his own worries with any real certainty. It made the following day and a half after the elk had bolted from the cabin a miserable experience, full of trepidation and anxiety. It didn't help that he couldn't actually leave the immediate vicinity of the yard, not even to go clear his head; rowan's leg was still healing, and he fought with himself over risking even a small trip into the forest. Despite elona's claim when rowan first awoke after his injury, he was not, in fact, particularly lucky. His parents and childhood friends, hell, even al teased him about just how unlucky he was. If he hurt himself a second time, rowan doubted rescue would find him again.

Oisin, though—oisin made him feel like the luckiest fae alive.

And really, their time spent apart gave rowan more time to think, even if he was in a constant state of movement. After realizing ossie wouldn't return that night, he'd forced himself to go inside and make an abundance of food even if he wasn't all that hungry. His insides were all tied into tight knots, his emotions tripping over themselves as to his friend's state—the kiss, what it had meant as well as his abrupt departure. Eventually rowan's busy hands (after cooking and drinking more tea that elona had left, he took to whittling wood into shapes, crocheting, reading, sketching, all of which done by the window that he might catch the appearance of an elk) began to distract him from the agony of waiting, and the tension seeped out of his muscles. The time allowed him to realize how badly oisin needed this—needed to escape, and that it didn't necessarily mean he wouldn't come back. Or so he hoped, and hoped.

rowan didn't think he'd sleep considering how little he generally needed, but apparently the healing process took more energy than he'd thought, because his curly head bobbed forward a few times before he snapped awake for the nth time. He adjusted himself in his chair by the window, slightly afraid to sleep because of the dreams it might bring. Oisin's face crumpled in pain echoed in the recesses of his memory, and the fae's stomach clenched, trying to push the image away. Eventually a light sleep took him, tangled as he was in a mess of yarn and half a crocheted blanket that was in the works.

When he sighed softly, stirring in his slumber at a disturbance, he felt a warmth against the whole of his back that hadn't been there before. Rowan's brows furrowed slightly, sluggish with sleep and confused. His other senses perked up, smelling rich and familiar things, like soil and forest and fresh air. And oisin. it reminded him of all the times he'd woken up laying against the elk's thick fur.

Without real thought, because somewhere in the back of his molasses-fast mind he thought he was still asleep and dreaming, the fae began to speak, tilting his head up slightly with his eyes still closed. His words barely had any heat behind them, more curious than angry. ”d'you always do that, then? Just up 'n kiss people 'n run off into the woods for days? Leavin' said people—victims, really—confused, 'n fluttery, 'n anxious s'all hell, just waitin' fer—” rowan's mind seemed to catch up with him then. He stopped babbling and flicked open his bright eyes, finally peering up at oisin, lids widening slightly because—holy he was here, actually here, and those deep brown eyes were peering right back at him. silence stretched for a beat, then two. relief and surprise were overwhelming the fae, and words failed him utterly. ”ehm.. hi.”

Had the fae always been this light? It was one thing for Rowan to weigh next to nothing when Ossie was an elk. An elk could face a wolf, even a bear. At near a eight or nine hundred pounds Rowan weighed nothing, some of the alpha wolves weighed as much as him and with the right hook an elk could send a wolf flying. But as he carried the fae over to the couch he felt like nothing, as light as the air he controlled. A good comfortable weight that he'd gladly carry any and everywhere.

Half through sitting down was when Rowan started to stir in his arms the lithe body wiggling among the blankets in his lap. Oisin held his breath, unsure of just how Rowan was going to react. He truly hoped he wasn't mad at him. He had understand, as attuned to nature as he was, he had to know how Oisin felt, at least sensed it. But could he forgive him, for running away as he did, making the other man wait for nearly two days.

Rowan started to mumble in his sleep about kissing people and running off, victims and fluttery. Grinning his own heart and stomach fluttered, a bit of heat lifting to his cheeks. And then those stunning eyes that had first captivated him were open and staring back at him. For a moment he was trapped within them, trying to find the bottom of them. Then he realized that Rowan looked as if he couldn't believe he was there or very much surprised and his rambling train of thought all but broken.

”ehm.. hi.”

Smiling he snorted softly recalling his first words to Rowan.. "Hi." he echoed softly. With Rowan so close, able to see in color in such vivid detail compared to when he was an elk he took a moment to just look at him, noting the highlights in his curls the way the first tracing of grey morning light hit his pale skin. A hand came up gently carding through his hair watching how it loved through his fingers. "Only day, not days. No I don't. You are first." he corrected with a little snort. His hand lowered to the nape of Rowan's neck a thumb on his pulse. "I'm sorry, for running." Hand lifting from Rowan's neck he laid the fae's over his chest, holding it there. "Hurt too much. Need time...learn to feel again. It was not you...never you" Shifting he sat up proper the gears behind his eyes whirling trying to think of what to say. "I want to stay, with you, but run with herd. Both together...somehow." Wetting his lip he looked down his cheeks going a bit more red. Leaning in and up he caught his lips again without warning his fingers instantly in his hair gripping it before he pulled back his eyes instantly cast down embarrassed but giddy at the bold move he'd just made. "I-I like you Rowan. D-do you like me?"

the warmth at his back was real—those deep, rich brown eyes were actually looking down at him, and was that the faint trace of a smile on those lips as he snorted? Rowan's brain was slow to wrap around all these things, although he wasn't sure why because there was no dream which he could conjure that would even rival how oisin looked in those moments. It was one thing waking up with his cheek plastered against the fur of his dozing elk friend, but this? Pale sunlight washed over oisin's face, and when his eyes caught just right, they bloomed much brighter, caramel-almond, a shade rowan suddenly wanted to capture in his baking. More than that, though, he just wanted to keep staring at the other man because there were details he hadn't yet committed to memory. Not surprising, considering he could count on one hand how many times he'd even seen oisin's human side.

"only day, not days. no i don't. you are first."

rowan's lips parted to add that it had felt like days, but the meaning of those last three words caught up to the fae. ”i.. really? Maybe I really am lucky...” he mumbled softly, truly considering it. His lashes fluttered slightly feeling the shifter's hand in his hair, and along his pulse point. The touches grounded him, and he relaxed further against oisin, the experience both comfortingly familiar and jarringly new.

"i'm sorry, for running. hurt too much. need time...learn to feel again. it was not you...never you"

his curly-haired head was already shaking, even as relief flooded through him and silenced the little doubtful voice in his mind that had grown in oisin's absence. ”nah, no sorries, baratheon. Can't be sorry for that, s'just.. the whole not warnin' me thing,” he replied, a slightly teasing smile on his lips. The shifter's heart beat, rhythmic and reliable, beneath his palm. He suddenly felt silly for worrying so intensely, a light flush creeping up his neck. In his defense, oisin had looked, sounded, felt utterly distressed before he'd ran, and that was more than enough to trip row's oversensitive aura-feelers.

"i want to stay, with you, but run with herd. both together...somehow."

rowan shifted and sat up when the elk did, still comfortable and warm. He nodded, already trying to think of the best way to go about oisin's wishes. ”right, okay, ehhm. Ah! Make me part of t'herd, and then you get the best o' both worlds! I'd love t'be an honorary elk—i mean, all that runnin' is—“ the fae didn't get the chance to explain any further; oisin's lips pressed against his, holding them impossibly still.

And then his brain short circuited. Thought process failed. Error, error. Cannot compute.

For probably the fiftieth time.

"i-i like you rowan. d-do you like me?"

the fae blinked, bright eyes widening slightly as he tried to think of the string of words, in all the stories he'd read, of all the tales he'd told, that might form an adequate answer. But he couldn't—he blanked, hard, and instead leaned forward to crush his lips to oisin's again. The kiss was clumsy and too excited at first in his haste (like everything rowan did), as if he might miss his chance forever and ever if he didn't reply then and there. It shifted into something gentler but no less passionate, one hand sliding up over ossie's chest to tangle in the messy hair at the back of his neck. When rowan pulled away, slightly out of breath and eyes positively sparking, he smiled impishly. ”s'that answer enough?” after a few moments, the fae's brow gained a slight furrow, an earnest expression on his face. "i was worried about you," rowan admitted freely, leaning to rest his forehead on the shifter's shoulder. he turned his face in and brushed his lips over ossie's collarbone, idly but still unable to resist. "am.. worried."

The elk himself almost wondered if this were a dream. Had it all been? But it couldn't be. He'd never dreamed so vivid. He'd only seen Rowan with his human eyes just long enough to take in the barest of details. But now he could see every color and in crisp detail. The tinge of his cheeks, the highlights within his hair. All of it. Right down to the tiny little mole upon his cheek.

It felt so right to hold Rowan, his weight comfortable. Familiar yet new. He was use to the fae falling asleep nestled in his legs or on his back. But this was different. It felt closer, almost intimate.

The shifer caught the other staring at him, no doubt taking in new details. His own face was a stranger to him. He still hadn't looked, still too afraid to see what ten years had done to change the face he vaguely remembered.

”i.. really? maybe i really am lucky...”

He let out a soft snort. "No one to kiss before." he said with a little shrug. "I lucky too." he added meeting his gaze.

He'd felt horrid for leaving Rowan like he had. No doubt making the fae feel like he'd run away from him, which was the last he wanted to do. He wanted nothing more then to be there by his side day and night to help him heal, but so much had come flooding back, he didn't know how to handle it, and he still didn't. There had to be a way, perhaps Rowan could help, he needed to work through the decade of pent up feelings and grief or else they were going to eat away at him or force him to remain an elk till the end of his days. And now with Rowan that was something he didn't consider an option.

”nah, no sorries, baratheon. can't be sorry for that, s'just.. the whole not warnin' me thing,”

He grinned a little as the nickname but shook his head as well. "No I am sorry. Not right how I left. I...I need to stay. Feel." he said tapping at his heart. "Even if hurts. No more leaving. If I need to run, I will say." he said with a nod.

While Rowan was talking about being a member of the herd and an honorary elk the urge to kiss him shoved its way through and before Oisin knew it, he was kissing the fae. Acting on impulse was another thing he was going to have to learn to control once more.

But he was rather proud when he saw the stunned look that had fallen across Rowan's face, his lips unable to mutter a single word. He was quickly taking pride is finding ways to make the other speechless. The force of the kiss at first surprised him, he could feel his teeth behind his lips, it was fast and hard and a tad clumsy, but it still made his heart flutter all the same. But then it softened, but the passion was still here, the emotion. Goosebumps lifted and he shivered as Rowan's hands explored. No use to bare skin being touched just yet, it was thrilling like raw nerves exposed in the best way. The soft breath, the sparkle in his eyes, it stirred something deep within Oisin when he looked into his eyes. Reaching up he linked their fingers thumbing over the top of his hand as he listened.

"i was worried about you, am.. worried."

The kiss to his collarbone made him take a sharp breath of air and shiver before he pillowed his chin upon the crown of Rowan's wild nest of air. He let out a long and heavy sigh the both of them heaving with it. "I'm....afraid....afraid of hurt. Everyone I love...is gone. I was alone...hurt and scared. I ran. I ran with herd to forget it. Hurt never left...waited. It comes back in, in," His brows furrowed hard he made the moment of a wave or a push. "Sounds, feelings all come back. Can't breathe can't think. Body screams run, so I did." he let out a breath closing his eyes."I need...time...patience. I need to run, but I...I will always come back to you. I promise." he said squeezing Rowan's hand. Slowly letting go, he moved so the two of them were face to face and Oisin leaned in for another kiss. Soft and gentle but there was a heat behind it the rough kiss from before had ignited something with him and he leaned further in gently easing Rowan back.

"no one to kiss before.  "i lucky too.”

Oisin's words put butterflies in the fairie's stomach; he fidgeted as if the happiness in his chest couldn't be contained and was coming out his fingertips. But just being in oisin's presence, sharing his warmth and energy, brought a thrill that rowan hadn't ever felt before. And as with all new territory, the fae was eager to explore, to learn all he could about this mysterious creature whose wild nature was fashioned after rowan's own heart. It was hard to imagine that he'd only known oisin as a beast until recently; his beauty, obviously, was something that both his physical forms shared.

"no i am sorry. not right how i left. i...i need to stay. Feel. even if hurts. no more leaving. if i need to run, i will say."

it was no insignificant decision; row could only imagine how it felt to be in the shifter's shoes. And there was sincerity in his eyes, in his aura too—the kind of honesty that made it impossible to doubt him. ”s'all I can ask for, oisin. Thank you,” he replied, relieved that the elk would try to keep him in loop whenever he needed to get away. His thoughts were whisked away easily, as per usual, and he was mid-ramble about something he couldn't even remember the moment ossie's lips met his. The kiss was more than enough to wipe his mind blissfully blank, only registering how the other man smelled and felt and tasted.

He delighted in nipping at ossie's collarbone for the reaction he got, which made him want to test all the other responses he could get from the shifter—which was a rather dirty train of thought, if you really... rowan blinked back to attentiveness as his companion spoke again. His heart twisted with the weight and meaning of oisin's words; he didn't realize the other had moved until they were face to face. ”of course, ossie, I.. I understand. S'long as y'come back, i'll wait for you,” he answered with the quirk of a smile, happily meeting the shifter's mouth again. Against his lips, rowan whispered, ”Long as it takes, baratheon. I promise.”

the fae barely realized he was being eased back until he felt the pillows behind him, slotting his legs between each of oisin's for optimal comfort. His heart skipped a few beats, and he was pretty sure that if they were standing, his knees would've went wobbly and aborted mission 'stay standing, you idiot' a long time ago. Faeries were infamously easily swept up by passion, rowan clearly included; it was hard not to roll his hips up and attain sweet sweet friction, especially, y'know, with a freakin' greek god on top of him. Even just kissing, though, was exhilarating to row—he felt more alive than he had in a while, especially considering he'd been cooped up in the house. He pulled away just enough to leave a trail of kisses down over ossie's stubbled jaw, suckling a light mark into his neck experimentally.

The fae's energy near crackled around him, he could feel the anxious fidgeting and nearly did so himself. The feeling was infectious and Oisin felt a swelling warmth in his chest unlike anything he'd ever felt. He felt as if he might burst from it his heart fluttering wildly and happily like after a good hard run.

”s'all i can ask for, oisin. thank you,”

He nodded, wild dark curls bouncing before he leaned in pressing forehead to forehead. "Thank you...not being mad." It scared him, to have all of that pain just waiting to strike him at any moment. He wasn't alone now, he had Rowan, he had someone he could talk to and get it all out. It would hurt and it wouldn't be easy, but he wasn't alone, and that's what mattered the most to him.

The elk also really needed to work on him impulse control. While Rowan didn't seem to be complaining, he'd have to work on not just near mauling the other man when the desire to struck. So use to running on instinct, acting and not truly thinking, he was going to have to change his mindset. But for now the two seemed content to trade nips and kisses and that kiss to his collarbone caused a hard shiver and a pooling of heat.

”of course, ossie, i.. i understand. s'long as y'come back, i'll wait for you,”

He scooted closer, meeting the fae's eyes. "Always come back, stuck with me now." he teased softly with a little smile.

The heat in his stomach was kindled and quickly warming, Rowan pressed back onto the couch, the way their legs slotted and tangled. Feeling his lips on his jaw he tilted his head back, exposing his neck for Rowan. The sensation was strange, but...arousing. A deep 'mmm' came from the back of the shifter's throat ending as his lips parted in a quiet moan. The muscles of his arms flexed as his fingers curled into the material of the couch and he rolled his hips down into Rowan a shaky breath leaving him. His head lifted, looking around a window before he looked back down at Rowan. "Outside....I want outside with you." Again not asking and just acting he reached under Rowan, blanket and all and scooted him up his arms locked under his thighs making a seat. It took him a moment to get his own balance but soon they were out the door, far enough away from the cabin he found a spot dappled in sunlight with the rustling of trees over head and the grass warm from the sun.

Oisin's dexterity in his hands and fingers weren't good to begin with, but now flustered they numbly spread out the blanket under Rowan before he went in for another kiss, rolling his hips once more, lifting one of Rowan's legs. The blood pulsing through him as his heart beat wildly lifted the veining in his arms, his eyes bright and full of fire. "Rowan...I...I want."
