    personality |
Rallah comes off as rather abrasive, carrying herself proudly and with an aloof air. She looks down on most of the people she meets until they prove they are worth her time. She especially dislikes humans, thinking them inferior due to their tendencies towards war, oppression, and cruelty. Rallah considers them closed-minded and often very foolish, and it is rare that a human gets on her good side. They can gain her respect by proving themselves capable of intelligent conversation and original thought. She hates the “sheep” that just follow the flock of society. Her pride lends to her short temper. She is generally serious, not the joking sort unless it’s sharp, dripping sarcasm.

While seemingly harsh, Rallah does have a softer side that very, very few ever see. Gentle affection is reserved for those closest to her heart, and she is very private. But if you win her over, she is a fierce friend, steadfast till the end. She is known for her eloquent and forceful oratory skills, and some swear there is something wickedly magical about her ability to get people to start thinking the way she wants them too. This seems to occur with only the weak-minded, however, and she denies any association with “Magic”

    history |
Rallah was born to a scholar named Akhilesh and his mate Latika, who had retreated to the Vinkus to find their own kind and live in peace. They had lived through the oppression of Animals, having for a time been rounded up like common livestock and restricted to game reserves. They were determined to give their daughter every advantage possible, every edge to fight the prejudices of the world. Akhilesh and Latika were both very concerned with the education of their only child, who had both the disadvantage of being both Animal and Female. Akhilesh homeschooled Rallah, teaching her the skills of philosophy, oration, and history. Rallah took a particular interest in politics from a young age.

She was accepted into Shiz University, and majored in Political Science. She excelled at her classes and made a few friends—mostly Animals, just a few Humans. She encountered resistance despite the new laws granting Animal Rights. Old habits die hard, and she noticed that even her Animal professors were occasionally talked down to by other faculty members at Shiz. Like anyone who is reaching their coming-of-age point, Rallah was beginning to see all that is negative in Oz. She took to heart the pressures of being an Animal, and developed a hard shell and a fierce disposition. She resisted any disrespect, eager to prove herself in conversation.

After graduating, Rallah immediately pursued a career as a politician, immersing herself in activist movements to condemn the segregation of Animals. In her early career she met Rajan Rankali, a fellow Tiger and activist, and a highly-respected speaker. They immediately clicked through conversations of politics and philosophy, and worked together on their campaigns. Their love grew from deep mutual respect, and they were wed nearly two years after meeting one another. Their parents highly approved of and encouraged the pairing. Together Rallah and Rajan became a force to be reckoned with on council floors, even earning the respect of Human politicians for the conviction with which they spoke. Rajan was known for reading the floor remarkably well, figuring out his opponent’s angle before sliding in with a devastating statement. Rallah herself was known for her aggressiveness, and was considered damn near impossible to intimidate.

Rallah and Rajan’s marriage was quiet in public, neither of them prone to public displays of affection. But the vast respect they held for one another was recognized by all, and it was in these subtle looks and gestures that outsiders could tell the depth of their love. They were a private, elegant couple. So much so that even their human political opponents were taken aback by the sudden death of Rajan. He was found dead in his home, a brutal killing for which no one would take responsibility. Rallah never doubted for a second that it was a political assassination, and some politicians fell under suspect, though no leads were ever found. In a bold act, Rallah made it publically known that she was convinced of human involvement, and if she ever learned who was behind the murder of her mate she would reap swift retribution.

After the highly-publicized murder, Rallah remained unwed, and handled the drama with grace. She remained steadfast with her activist endeavors, travelling as she was needed to speak in many places around Oz, eager to have her voice heard and not afraid to speak her mind to anyone—not even if Ozma herself was present.

    ”Are you an angel?”

Will Turner never thought he would hear such a question asked of him. But he’d heard it more than once in the past three years. And he knew what answer they were all hoping for. At first he hadn’t known what to say to them. Was he an angel? Certainly not by the definition of the Church. He had not been created as a holy being, separate from humanity. He was not a pure being, not even close. He had killed. Lied. Cheated. Stolen. But forget the Church. God wasn’t harboring these souls, he was. And in all his travels and adventures, he had seen so many things that denounced the existence of God. Davy Jones, Tia Dalma’s powers, the Kraken, and now even himself. But was he an angel? They’d like to think he was. After all, he did ferry the souls of the dead to their eternal rest. But he hadn’t come to this position by some holy light, he had this duty because his own father had plunged a knife into his sternum and carved out his heart and put it in a chest. Now William Turner was immortal. And damned. So he only had one answer for them all.

“No,” he said. “I am no angel. But I am here to take care of you.” And then he led the souls of that little girl and the rest of the poor pilgrims of the latest shipwreck to the Netherworld.

Dawn found Will Turner standing at the front of his ship. His brown eyes glanced down at the Flying Dutchman’s gaping maw. He often looked at this figure-head design, and he wasn’t sure if he was going mad or not, for it sometimes seemed to him that it was growing less menacing. The fearful design of the ship, Will assumed, had developed because Davy Jones had a scorned, black heart. But Will was not the slave-maker that Jones had been. Will was just there to get this sentence over with, and he truly did feel compassion for those who had died at sea. Perhaps the ship, which seemed to have a life of its own, would take on a less menacing and more hopeful appearance.

He sighed, looking down at his hands. They had been rough hands for as long as he could remember. Years of sailing and blacksmithing had worn them. He tried to remember the feeling of Elizabeth’s soft hands in his. So much softer than his hands…everything about her was soft: her hands, her skin, her long flowing hair… He couldn’t remember the last time he’d been without her for this long. But he clearly remembered their last day together.

“Captain,” greeted a rough voice. Will glanced over to see his father approach his side. Bootstrap gave a small, knowing smile. “Thinking about your One Day?”

Will returned a mirthless smile. “That’s what I have to hold on to…”

Bootstrap nodded, giving a sigh as he looked out over the sea, which was colored pink and yellow by the rising sun. “I s’pose every man needs his something to hold on to,” he said. Will nodded and idly rolled his neck. It had been a busy night. Last night’s storm had taken down a whole ship full of people. He had been eager to get some sleep, but he always liked to see the sun. He liked to take his time before diving back under the ocean.
