canon characters
for all your subplotting needs

Here on WGO, canon characters are very open to player interpretation. While we prefer personalities and general parts of the history (especially relationships to other canons) to stick as close to the description as possible, we don't mind if your interpretation of the character differs slightly from ours. As well, all face claims are suggested only and meant to inspire any potential takers, so don't feel you have to use the faces we did!

You may reserve a canon character by posting in this thread. Reserves last 72 hours; after that, they are removed from the list and anybody can take that character. Please use the clock below for the exact date.

Please post in code!
CODE
<b>canon last name</b> for <i>player name</i> until <i>mm/dd @ hh:mm am/pm</i><br>

THE CHEATERS
4/6 available
These kids got sneaky and stole the exam answers to get them through their Sophomore year English class. Karma knows their secret. Can they keep her happy long enough to get out of Salisbury Academy?

--- --- Blake,
BFF to Lair and close friend to Hart, Blake was always top of the class until she got interested in bad boy Poe Parkinson. Her marks lowly slipped as she switched studying for partying - she decided that he was more important than straight A grades. Her parents gave her a stern talking to on the advice of concerned teachers, and Blake ended up scoring an A+ in the final English exam to finish her Sophomore year. How? Parkinson hatched a plan to steal the answers. Blake accidentally let spill to her boyfriend about Hart's romantic interest in teacher Greene, and little does she know the trouble she's gotten the lovebirds into.
Seventeen. Junior. Faulkner. Julianne Hough. open.

--- --- Parkinson,
This kid has a bad rep around Salisbury. Sure - he's cool, but he's trouble. His current fling is formerly innocent Blake, one of the smartest girls in the school. He managed to put an end to that, though, taking her out most nights and helping her sneak back in, dragging her into his delinquency. When he found out her parents had been giving her a talking to, he figured out a solution - he must care for her a little, despite the rumors saying otherwise. He helped her steal the answers to the test. He's such a good boyfriend - he's even blackmailing Mr. Greene to keep this whole thing quiet.
Eighteen. Senior. Poe. kyle gallner. open.

rachelle samantha Lair,
Lair is Blake's best friend, and she's always been there for her. They used to study together - Lair fit the Hemingway stereotype in that she wasn't naturally blessed with good memorisation skills, and without Blake's help, she would've been in danger of flunking out long ago. Of course, her grades took a dive when Blake started spending all her time with Parkinson, instead of studying with her. Her only chance at passing the year was to take part in their scheme - she helped them sneak in and get a copy of the answers.. but her best friend and secret admirer Webster isn't too happy about the whole thing.
Sixteen. Junior. Hemingway. Jenna Ushkowitz. taken.

connor reid Webster,
Secretly in love with best friend Lair, Webster found out from her about the scheme Parkinson and Blake ran last year and he's beyond disappointed in her for cheating along with them, but she still holds a special place in his heart. It's Parkinson he's really angry at - he just needs to pluck up the courage to really say something to his face. A part of him blames Blake, too, since he found out she used to be Lair's study buddy, but he knows it's Parkinson who's messing her up, too. He feels like the only person who can see bad Parkinson is, somehow.
Seventeen. Junior. Hemingway. sam way. taken.

--- --- Greene,
Poor Mr. Greene is a fairly new teacher at the school, only having been there a year. He's having a tough time. First he fell for Hart, which has been hard for the both of them as she seems just as interested in him as he is in her, but he can't help but feel creepy about it. He knows it's wrong, after all. She's only seventeen. He keeps trying to push her away but.. there's something there. Then at the end of the year, he was in the school after-hours to retrieve his bag when he noticed lights coming from the English office. Before he really knew what was happening, Parkinson was up in his face, Blake and Lair were making a run for it, and he was being blackmailed. Keep his mouth shut or Parkinson would spill about his blooming romance with Hart. Uh oh. What's a guy to do?
Twenty-Five. Faculty. Jensen Ackles. Open.

--- --- Hart,
She fell, and fell hard, for her new teacher, Mr. Greene last year. Slowly but surely she worked her way onto his radar, drawn to him. She'd stay behind after class, ask questions she already knew the answer to, and make every effort to ace the tests he set in hopes she'd get a compliment. She wanted him to notice her.. and one day, he did. There was no going back after that. They shared a kiss, and Hart couldn't keep it to herself, spilling it to confidant and friend, Blake. Who knew Blake'd tell Parkinson? She understands she has to keep it a secret, but the damage was already done after that one little slip, not that Hart knows the trouble she's caused yet.
Seventeen. Senior. Faulkner. Brie Larson. Open.

the outcasts
5/5 available

House pride is highly significant at Salisbury Academy, so anybody who is transferred or goes missing between years is subject to at least a bit of teasing. It's no surprise, then, that two moves and a couple of stints in rehab have got these five caught in a mess in which manipulating each other seems the only way out.

--- --- burke,
Burke's initial placement into Poe left his parents shellshocked. They're both Twains, after all, and having a son belong to their former rival house just seemed wrong, as ridiculous the switch might seem. Unfortunately, Twain fills up quickly nearly every year, so finals marks considered, Burke has been moved into Faulkner for his sophomore year. It's a shame that he's so in love with Pearce. She obviously disapproves of his new house and friends and has taken to making his life hell--and not just his life, but his new best friend Roberts's too. But why? He's gotten so desperate for answers, he's gone to West for help, despite the guy having the worst track record in the school when it comes to girls.
sixteen. sophomore. faulkner. josh hutcherson. open.

--- --- roberts,
Miss Roberts is the jewel of house Faulkner: she's clever, helpful, and has hardly done any wrong in her three years here. Maybe she's a little too clever, and a little too helpful, because it was this girl who busted Pearce's eating disorder to the school nurse during her freshman year. Not that any of that backlash has affected her in the slightest, because she's continued to do what she does best and recently taken sophomore Burke under her wing. It seems, though, that Pearce is now taking the previous bullying to a whole other level.
sixteen. junior. faulkner. troian bellisario. open.

--- --- pearce,
Nobody messes with Pearce. It's not that she's overly popular, but rather due to her fiery temper. Most of Salisbury can hardly recall the wallflower freshman--although she did seem to disappear midway through last year. Why? Roberts, of course. Since that fateful day sophomore year, she's been through countless therapy sessions and eventually a five-month stint in rehab. She's supposed all better now, but according to the rest of the student body, she's scarier. The girl's still got a bit of charm, though, and managed to convince Burke she could be nice. Who would've thought he'd transfer the following year, and befriend her one nemesis? Good thing she's got Sparrow to confide in.
eighteen. senior. poe. claire holt. open.

--- --- sparrow,
Sparrow, like Pearce, has been in and out of rehab for much of her high school life. Caught smuggling ecstasy into a house party late last year, she's been deemed one of the school druggies, hence why she's been moved out of house Poe this year--Hamilton thought the Hemingways would be able to help her shapen up, despite Poe suiting her personality much better. It's not as though she's unsociable... she just happens to be a little crazy when she's high, and she's always high nowadays. Maybe that's why Pearce trusted her enough to tell her all about her eating habits. One has to wonder how tight-lipped Sparrow now that she's getting sober, though, or whether Roberts will ever think to team up with her... after all, her grades could use a bit of improvement, and who better to help than everybody's favourite Faulkner? Definitely not West. She's a bit fed up with him treating her like a baby.
seventeen. junior. hemingway. willa holland. open.

--- --- west,
West here is one of the academy's sweetest, though he's had some trouble with girls in the past. He's given up all hope of having a real girlfriend in high school, really, and would rather get involved in the community than lose himself to a relationship. Early this year, one teacher noted his benevolent nature and tasked him with keeping a closer eye on Sparrow, the drug addict recently transferred to Hemingway... who he happens to find intriguing. This is on top of what he promised Burke--while it started off as a joke at first (who would ask him for girl help, after all?), he's gotten close to the sophomore and is now more determined than ever to get him his girl.
eighteen. senior. hemingway. john patrick amedori. open.

the backstabbers
5/5 available
These students might be younger than most, but that doesn't mean they're any less vicious. Despite being best friends as kids, all they seem to want now is to ruin each other's high school lives. Between plots and manipulation, they're out for blood just like everybody else at Salisbury.

--- --- gilmore (1),
Gilmore 1 may be quiet, but she's something of a natural leader. With her sharp sarcasm and elusive nature, she's hardly the shy, mousy girl most upperclassmen are picturing her to be. She doesn't mind keeping quiet for now, though. She might only be in her freshman year, but she has big aspirations for the next four years of her life, including doing everything she can to ensure the position of queen bee is wide open by the time she's a senior. Unfortunately, her childhood best friends Flynn and Booth aren't exactly her picture of cool, so the first step to getting there is getting rid of them. Since coming to Salisbury, she's been subtly dropping hints to them about wanting a fresh start, and maybe moving on... but neither can seem to take a hint. Especially Booth, who she suspects has the hots for her older sister. Yuck.
fifteen. freshman. poe. molly c quinn. open.

--- --- gilmore (2),
Gilmore 2 always felt like the loser older sister. Truth be told, she's always just done whatever Gilmore 1 wanted, thinking at least one of them should be allowed to have goals. She has no idea what she's doing with her life, after all - she has decent grades, and plenty of friends, but she's more interested in being swept off her feet by some Prince Charming. Since in an incident in grade school, everyone's been under the assumption that she's into girls, which can't be true, right? So now she has to put up with Booth's constant awkward flirting and weird gifts, just so those rumours don't start up again. Good thing her younger sister's got her back with this one. Sort of.
sixteen. sophomore. hemingway. bonnie wright. open.

--- --- booth,
Best friends with Gilmore 1 (and Flynn) since birth, Booth has always been a little bit clingy. He's actually in love with her older sister Gilmore 2, but can't decide which one has a better chance with. Gilmore 1 doesn't have lesbian rumours, after all, and seems to like him enough as a friend, whereas Gilmore 2 is more ambivalent about him in general. With four older brothers, Booth's getting a little nervous about entering his second year of high school and still being the family's only virgin, so he's got to figure out one of them, and fast. Duncan, who he's met just this year, keeps telling him to move on, but he's oh so close.
fifteen. sophomore. twain. alexander gould. open.

--- --- flynn,
Probably the most honest of the whole group, Flynn is literally the glue holding everyone together. He's known Booth and the Gilmores since they were young, and they've always treated him like the pet of the group. But he's more than just a baby face. He's extremely perceptive, seeing right through Gilmore 1's cold facade and Booth's desperation, and he's beginning to wonder if he even knows these people anymore. If they won't care about him, he'll have no trouble finding new friends... or taking action to make sure neither gets what they want. Duncan seemingly wants to help with both.
fourteen. freshman. twain. isaac hempstead-wright. open.

--- --- duncan,
A highly intelligent girl, Duncan never thought she would crush on an idiot like Booth, but there's something about his puppy eyes she just can't get over. She resents that he's in love with the Gilmores, honestly, and is sick of being everybody's best friend. Learning about Gilmore 2's little misunderstanding from Flynn, she's decided to target Gilmore 1 instead. The two girls have barely talked, but Duncan's already photoshopped some racy images of the freshman, hearing that Karma willingly takes submissions. But is all this trouble really worth it? Maybe she should just focus on making friends.
fifteen. sophomore. faulkner. zendaya coleman. open.

the musicians
3/4 available
Every band has to start somewhere, right? Unfortunately, given Salisbury's reputation, it's no surprise that this band's financial desperation has lead them onto the path of betrayal.

--- --- Radnor,
Ever since he was little, Radnor dreamed of making it. He wanted to be a hotshot drummer in a band - drummers were always the coolest, to him. His family bought him a drumkit but couldn't spare the lessons, so it's no wonder that in order to fund his band as of late, he's turned to a bit of theft. He doesn't steal too much from one person - not enough to arouse suspicion. Until recently, Montgomery was unfortunate enough to leave his room unlocked. Radnor and James were only paying him a visit.. until they saw the stuffed wallet on the desk.
Eighteen. Senior. Twain. Nicholas Hoult. Open.

riley aria James,
James is a skilled bassist, but she's only ever been able to play on the school's bass guitars. Never having been able to afford her own instrument, she'd been assisting Radnor in his stealthy stealing, and they almost had enough anyway when they hit the jackpot, heading over to meet with Montgomery one night. They swiped his cash and bought a new bass and a good but second-hand drumkit, and they've been avoiding answering questions about how they saved up for the instruments ever since.
Seventeen. Senior. Twain. Lucy Hale. taken.

--- --- Ellis,
Ellis is the band's singer and guitarist. He's a talented chap with a big heart, and despite his interrogation, has no clue how Radnor and James got the money together to buy their new instruments. Ellis had his guitar already, so he's luckily in the clear on this one - he suspects it might have something to do with the wad of cash Montgomery's been whining about lately. Ellis was sure he'd just misplaced his wallet, but now? Maybe not. Ellis wants to help Montgomery get a little bit of revenge.
Seventeen. Senior. Hemingway. William Moseley. Open.

--- --- Montgomery,
Montgomery has happily seen the band rise to local success. He's always supported the band, and even gave them the financial backing once to print up some t-shirts for a few friends. It was no big deal, and Montgomery does have extra cash to splash around, so what did it matter if he spent a little extra on his friends? Sadly, his friends might not be as friendly to him. Have they just been using him all along? He seems to think so, now, seeing as a huge chunk of his wallet's gone missing, right as they've turned up with new, pricey instruments. He's not sure whether he should get even with them somehow or wait for Karma to swoop in - but something's gotta give. Maybe he should open up to Ellis about it, to teach Radnor and James a lesson?
Eighteen. Senior. Hemingway. Matthew Lewis. Open.

the freshmen
4/4 available
Starting at a new school is always scary. Who knows how well you'll fit in? Maybe it'll be the best time of your life... but maybe it'll be the worst. Luckily for these four freshers, they've banded together early on. That's gotta improve their chances of survival, right?

--- --- Fielding,
Fielding is beyond nervous about starting at Salisbury this year. She's always been pretty confident, but that's all being shelved as a measure of self-preservation - she's decided she'd rather go under the radar to avoid attracting too much attention, to begin with. In a school that brings out the worst in people, will she manage to keep her anonymity, or will the academy drag her out into the limelight? Making friends with Dakota, Benson and Page might not have been a smart move for keeping things quiet...
Fifteen. Twain. Georgie Henley. Open.

--- --- Dakota,
Daughter of a diplomat, there are some place that Dakota's parents feel are too dangerous for a 15 year old. So, when her parents recieved their recent posting, after much talking, they decided to send their daughter to the boarding school for at least a couple of years, or more, depending on how long they stay in the Middle East. She's already sick and tired of the place, but at least she's making good friends. They've bonded quickly, her, Fielding, Benson and Page, but already they're getting into trouble with Benson's fun schemes. Uh oh.
Fifteen. Hemingway. Maisie Williams. Open.

--- --- Benson,
All Benson wants is her fifteen minutes of fame sometime within this year. Is that really too much too ask? She just wants some attention, and she's determined to get it. Freshmen need love just like everybody else, so she retaliated, along with Fielding, Dakota and Page, against the hazing first-years typically receive, turning a group of senior Twains' white laundry load pink. Already, they've made names for themselves. Will that turn out to be a good thing?
Fourteen. Twain. Haley Bennett. Open.

--- --- Page,
Page always had trouble connecting with people. In an all boys' school, he never found his niche, but in meeting the trio of Fielding, Dakota and Benson, he's found his idea of fun and friendship. He's never met anyone who can make him laugh as hard as Benson can, and Dakota can make him smile so wide his cheeks hurt. And Fielding? Well, he thinks she's just the prettiest girl he's laid eyes upon. Aw.

the college students
3/4 available
Moving to college means growing up, right? Wrong. These kids are still struggling with unrequited crushes, scandalous secrets and one night stands. Maybe Karma can get them to mature? Maybe not. Things seem a bit too tangled up with these students.

micah damien anders,
Having a crush on someone older than you who never pays any attention to you is always hard. Luckily, Anders never had to deal with that. He got way too much attention from Whitmore.. but it was the wrong kind of attention. Anders has been crushing on the guy since forever, but Whitmore's always been a bully and, being on the scrawny side, Anders got picked on a lot back in Salisbury by him. Still, he has a weird crush on Whitmore that he just can't seem to break. He knows he has a girlfriend, but it seems fortuitous that they've all ended up at the same college. Anders is sure something'll go south with Paillard - he's never liked her - and that he'll be able to swoop in and get the right kind of attention from Whitmore.
Nineteen. College Student. Former Poe. Ezra Miller. taken.

--- ---- Paillard,
People never expected much of Paillard. She was the kind of girl who they thought would be lucky to end up a stripper. She had a bad reputation and was lazy about work... so what's she doing here at university - in her second year, nonetheless? She's trying to prove everyone wrong. She wants to make a name for herself and become a success. So far, it's going good. She's made good friends - Tovey, for one - but money's tight, and her little secret? She is stripping part-time. Overprotective boyfriend Whitmore might not approve, but Paillard knows it's her choice... and she's choosing not to tell him, too. Let's hope he doesn't find out.

Twenty. College Student. Former Poe. Clemence Poesy. Open.

--- --- tovey,
College is supposed to be all about finding yourself, having fun, and partying, right? That's exactly what Tovey thinks, anyway - not the stress her professors are piling on. She's just trying to have fun... but it's turning into a serious problem. Her grades are dangerously poor and the things she's gotten up to on nights out are enough to get her into trouble.. and maybe a few other people, seeing as she slept with close friend Paillard's boyfriend, Whitmore, at the start of the year. They're desperate to keep it hush-hush.
Twenty. College Student. Former Hemingway. Ashley Tisdale. Open.

--- --- whitmore,
Ex-Salisbury school bully, Whitmore's settled down since coming to college. Something about Salisbury managed to make him crazy - he was not a nice person. But now he's mellowed and found his own happy little environment. The only good thing that came out of Salisbury was Paillard, his beautiful girlfriend, who also now attends the college. He's fiercely protective of her - now more than ever, considering he made one of the worst decisions ever earlier this year, and slept with a very drunk Tovey. Uh oh.
Twenty-one. College Student. Former Twain. Marlon Teixeira. Open.

The LGBT Issues
4/5 available
No school community is full of love and sunshine. Of course, there's the Poe-Twain hate, but recently Salisbury's LGBT community has been having a rough time, too. Officially, discrimination of any kind is not tolerated at Salisbury Academy. But you know people, and people can be cruel. And ignorant. And hateful. Whilst Karma isn't often seen as the good guy, she at least seems to be on the right side of this war.

--- --- andrews,
Andrews didn't join the school until November of her freshman year. How exactly did that happen? Well, if you ask Andrews or anyone at the school board, they'll tell you that it's because she didn't quite fit into her old school and Salisbury Academy simply offered her more opportunities. The truth? Andrews and another friend of hers stupidly released an online video in which they made hurtful comments directed toward the LGBT community at their old school. The backlash caused the two girls to be expelled and make an apology.

It's been a few years, now, and it seems like Andrews has learnt her lesson and become more respectful toward the LGBT community. In reality, Andrews still feels some resentment for her expulsion – she feels as though it wasn't fair and blames the LGBT community for it. She did learn one thing, though - she learnt to be more subtle and discreet about her bullying. The girl only targets her (hidden) anger and hatred towards a couple of the gay kids at the school - in particular Monroe and Garcia - in the form of anonymous notes placed inside their mailboxes. And Karma is not happy about that. Anonymous notes and running people's lives are Karma's hobbies - and she won't let Andrews take over.

seventeen. junior. faulkner. caitlin stasey. open.

--- --- choi,
Choi and her family used to live in a small town in Indiana. When she came out, her parents showered her with love and acceptance - but her community took a much more hateful path. The town was a Catholic settlement and homosexuality was frowned upon. The Choi family were practically excommunicated by the town. People crossed the street when they saw them. They didn't want to catch the "disease". While the family suffered and felt miserable in the town they once called home, they never expected the unimaginable.

Choi was walking home with a friend one night after a late practice at school. The two were attacked on the way home by a masked individual. Choi was brutally beaten but survived, but the other girl's wounds were much worse. She died in the ambulance on the way to the hosital. After Choi recovered enough, the family packed their bags and left for good. They ended up in a larger city a few hours away from Salisbury Academy, where the Choi children now attend school. She hides her sexuality, now. She's not ashamed of who she is, but she's afraid. Though the physical scars have vanished, the emotional and mental scars are still there. She hates the man who took her courage away from her, who killed one of her closest friends. She hates him with all her heart and – though she speaks none of this to her family – she's already thought of a dozen different scenarios for a perfect murder.

sixteen. sophomore. hemingway. tiffany hwang. reserved.

--- --- garcia,
Garcia... well, actually, Garcia isn't gay. The boy was raised by two mothers which gave him more feminine qualities and mannerisms, perhaps - but a rumour was spread that he was gay and when it came back to him, Garcia didn't deny it because he misunderstood what was said to him. So, unintentionally, he'd admitted that he was gay - without actually being gay. And now he can't get out of it. When he tells people he's not gay, they tell him he's just denying it so that the more homophobic kids and bullies will leave him alone. Not to mention, whenever he tries to "prove it" by kissing a girl or asking a girl out - it's always the same result: they giggle and laugh and tell him to stop being silly. Possibly the one benefit of being "gay" is that his female friends aren't embarrassed to change clothes in front of him... so maybe that's one reason to keep up appearances. At least until university. What harm could it do?
sixteen. sophomore. twain. avan jogia. open.

--- --- monroe,
Monroe's the kind of girl who doesn't take crap from people. Or at least, that's what it seems like. While on the outside she may seem tough and strong, keeping it together with her head held high, the girl's still quite vulnerable. A father's rejection will do that to a person. It didn't matter if her grades were great, nor that she had her father's artistic abilities - the fact that she was gay made her father turn away from her. And that Monroe couldn't take. It was a blow to her heart. Her father, her best friend, the parent that she always got along with and had the perfect childhood with, turned away from her. It was unbearable. So Monroe went cold - reserved, but strong. Someone made a homophobic comment about her? She snapped right back at them to put them back in their place.

But now, the anonymous letters she's been getting in her mailbox day after day are wearing her down. The snappy comebacks are getting slower, her head and gaze is a little bit lower each day and her strong posture and attitude is beginning to fade. The new freshman Zafon, may be something to keep her going, though. Perhaps that's just what she needs. A change of focus. Maybe taking someone under her wing can bring up her morale.

eighteen. senior. poe. shenae grimes. open.

connor william zafon,
Zafon is a highly impressionable kid. To be completely honest, he's naive and guillible. He ate up the image of Salisbury Academy that the Headmaster painted for him. He thinks it's a perfect educational institution where everyone respects each other and there's no discrimination. He's basically walking straight into the mouth of the shark because he thinks it won't bite. Well, he's got it wrong there. Poor kid, he'll openly tell everyone he meets he's bisexual and he'll most likely get a lot of shit for it from the bullies. But hey, perhaps Monroe will look after him and protect the kid. Even if he is a Hemingway? These two seem fated to help one another - they keep bumping into each other everywhere.
