Hi all,
I've finally managed to finish a painting at last! This was started at least a month ago but due to various reasons I only completed it last weekend. It's from a reference photo off the old Photos4Artists site which appears to have migrated to a new one. I couldn't actually locate the original photo, but I think this is of Upper Slaughter in the Cotswolds. It's on Langton 140lb 14 x 10 Rough paper & uses all my usual colours. As per most of my work, there are aspects that I quite like & other bits that are a big disappointment. ![]() As always all feedback very welcome. |

A lovely work John. I love the brushwork in the trees. Very light and fresh early spring feeling of light.

Looks good, though not sure if it is the image colour, but the walls look a bit on the pink side for the cotswolds, and a minor nitpic, the wall in shadow on the right has no detail at all and looks unfinished to my eye, perhaps a few strokes to indicate the copings on the top perhaps.

Thanks for your comments folks, much appreciated.
The colour does look to have leached out of the photo Dorothy, in the original the colours are definitely stronger in tone, the road, for example has a slight pink tone in places which doesn't really come across here at all. The buildings are brickwork Ken, so you could well be right about this not being in the Cotswolds. As I couldn't track the original source photo down, I was relying on a rather tired memory, so I may well have my wires crossed. Also agree about the r/h wall, the shadow tone seems to have washed any subtle detail out of it. Thanks again. |
