excellent depiction of the mountain, you have also done well with the foliage and different shades of green, difficult to do in pastel

Looking good, I'd beinclined to warm up the foreground just a touch though.

Good work from an unusual angle
Especially like the distant wooded area left with the gaps showing. Neil |

I think you've got a nice sense of mountain grandeur in this John. The only feeling I have about it is that the road driving into it takes some of the atmosphere out of it.
It's always worth - when you get a commission - to talk over a few ideas about how the subject might be interpreted to bring out things that really excited the client. Maybe your old mate is happy with a straight rendering of the photograph. On the other hand you might pick up an emotive reaction to the wildness and the loneliness of the Rockies which really excited her. If so that busy road detracts from the experience I think. |

I am really enjoying seeing your pastels
I like the sculpting of the mountain and think the trees are really good. I must confess that the road ending in the bottom corners would not be to my taste, but it is difficult when you are working for someone else. I might have tried to suggest to them to crop off some of the foreground. I am sure your friend will be thrilled with such a lovely reminder of their trip. |

I did crop off a big portion of the foreground as it was a big wall with a large pair of gates that were closed. My friend liked the large man made road leading to the large earth made background.
All your consideratons were put forward, even to get rid of the road completely. Thanx for looking and the ideas though |

Well done. Also looked at Hoffpoff album seeing old and some I haven't seen before. Do you put a link to photobucket on facebook or your pics directly on facebook. I don't put my art on fb as I don't think it would be appreciated by non artists so much.

Hiya Julia'
Yeh whenever I put anything up on photobucket it goes onto facebook, this is where i got the two commissions from one person and I am sorting out another 3 as we speak, so its not all bad on there. I have also found that a lot of people I have not seen for a while paint or draw and have now started showing work on there which gives us a lot more to talk about. |
