Well done Dorothy she has a nice modern look thanks to the eye liner. The pose perhaps owes something to Rembrandt but she has a fresh look which belongs to our time.

Pleased someone is posting something!

Good work Dorothy. I like her body posture and the position of the hand touching her neck. She definitely has got a modern look about her.
However I woul try to make her head slightly smaller in proportion size to her upper boddy.
The proportions generally are:
a) A standing human figure is about 7 sizes of the head. So it makes the upper body to her waist about 2 heads sizes (given and taken for the slouched shoulders)
cool.gif A face (not the head) is approximately the same length as the hand.

thanks for your comment Sasha but I do know about the proportions so dont need a lesson, surely art is about how one feels and personal preferences?

A nice painting on the whole Dorothy although I think the hair is a smidgen overworked & looks a little heavy as a consequence. Like the effect you have for the background wall.

It's worth studying this kind of portraiture Dorothy it goes back a long way. Have a look at

Titian: Portrait of a Man with a Quilted Sleeve

Marvellous poise to the head and that sleeve too is terrific.
