i s e e s i g n s n o w a l l t h e t i m eYOU'RE NOT DEAD, YOU'RE SLEEPING- - - - - - - -As she climbed the stairs to the rooftops, Alyson Hewitt sighed inwardly. Tonight was just one of those nights when life just seemed to be biting her in the ass and nothing more. Jason had phoned her earlier in the afternoon to say he wouldn't be back from his trip to the states for at least another two months, and Scar was doing her head in to say the least. She was in Franklin's bad books, having failed once again to recruit anyone to their side this week. Life just wasn't going well for her, and it was a problem she was certain only alcohol would fix.
For anyone else, being caught drinking on the rooftops would mean expulsion. But for Allie it meant a slap on the wrist. Nobody but her siblings knew it, but she was nineteen years old. Not only that but Elias Jones, the vice-principal and man she would be sent to should she be caught drunk up here, was something of a friend. He would either laugh at her, or give her the 'disappointed' lecture, to which she would merely laugh in his face. Either way she wasn't going to get into trouble for what she was doing. In that respect, life was good. She would at least have peace of mind in being totally selfpitying up here.
Sitting down at the edge, Allie opened a can of Magners and took a long sip. The stuff was like rocketfuel to her system. Just ten minutes later she could already feel the warmth radiating through her body, causing her to take her hooded fleece off. Her hair was no doubt sticking out at all angles now, but soon enough she wouldn't care less about it.
As she drank away, now onto her third can, Allie stared off into space. The stars were veiled by a thick layer of clouds tonight, and it was threatening to rain. Alyson wrily thought it was God's attempt at pathetic fallacy. Except that she didn't believe in any higher power, and even if she had, she doubted he or she would care enough about her mood to make the weather match it. The weather tonight was a coincidence; that was all, if one which please Allie too.
About an hour later Allie had got herself into quite the state. She'd been up there chain smoking and drinking her way through two six-packs of cider. Far from a lightweight, Alyson was able to hold her drink like a man. But this evening she'd deliberately chosen to give dinner a miss, having planned this from the very moment she hung up on Jason with a scowl on her pretty face. Now here she was, sitting with her legs dangling off the edge of the Waring house roof. She must have looked a pitiful sight. And with that thought Allie decided to stand up. Getting a notion to climb, she started to make her way up higher, climbing onto the low ledge which ran around the edge of the roof. Standing there swaying she looked down to the ground. She was rather high up, but in her drunken state she couldn't care less. What if she just jumped? Would anyone really, truly miss her? She could try it just to see....

SO YOU RUN AWAY FOR NO APPARENT REASON , y o u ' r e o b s s e d w i t h t h e s t a r sWell, things were different here, to say the least. I was aware that I looked at the world in a different way, but I didn't know it would be quite like this. Just because I grew up in New York didn't mean I expected everywhere to be like New York. In fact, if I did I was really just a jerk. Instead, I was just curious to discover what everything was like around the world. One day I would travel to Alaska and anywhere else I could get tickets to. But for right now I was stuck out here, trying to figure out why I had left New York in the first place. Of course, the answer was all too obvious and I knew that by thinking about it I was just depressing myself. But do you really think that stopped me from dwelling, once again, on the parents that hated me and the little sister I would never see again?
Today, well I guess I should say tonight, I had no idea what to do with myself. Sure, I needed to be social and get to know people eventually, but I frowned at the thought right now, shaking my head. I was already the new guy, and right now I was holding a reputation that stated normal. But man, once people actually met me...Things would be different. I would once again be that weird kid who nearly has enough credits to graduate college in their senior year. The weird kid that always seemed to do stupid, painful things. Yeah, well, that's me. Get it through your head before the rumors start going around, will you?
Anyways, I eventually found myself up here. Oops, sorry, I meant up here as on the rooftop. How I found myself up here I have no idea, and I know I'll get lost going back down. But for right now I'm rather enjoying all of this. Maybe, just maybe, this place isn't so bad. The sky seemed to go on forever as I gazed out into it, shifting slightly so I could glance up. And that's when I was slightly alarmed.
Slightly was quite a terrible word, actually. I was shocked, really. So shocked I stood there for a moment before glancing back behind me to where Holliday sat, wagging his tail and watching me curiously. While I wanted this to be a dream, I knew it wasn't. There was a girl standing on the slim ledge that went around the rooftop, and by the way she was swaying, I'm pretty sure she was drunk. Not exactly sure what to do, I took in a deep breath and leaned out over the edge so I could get a better look at her. "If you're thinking about jumping, don't you dare."
Sure, maybe some people thought I'd go as far as killing myself. But my goal was never to actually kill myself when I did something stupid, it was just to see what might make me crack. And so far I haven't found anything to make me crack, so I'm obviously still searching. But this girl...Well, if she was thinking about jumping I knew I'd have to go up there. Maybe I was wrong though, as she could just as easily be swaying from the height. I glanced down and next to my feet were many bottles of what she obviously used to get herself drunk. Alright, nevermind, she is drunk. And if she's drunk, I have a feeling she isn't up there to get a better look at the stars.
w o r d s : 600 n o t e s : sorry it took so long to get up, rents were being annoying. xD

i s e e s i g n s n o w a l l t h e t i m eYOU'RE NOT DEAD, YOU'RE SLEEPING- - - - - - - -Maybe being up here wasn't that fun... Who was Allie kidding? It was the most fun she'd had in a long time. She felt daring, and it gave her this freeness that she couldn't remember ever knowing. Control over her life was completely in her hands, or so she thought. Alcohol had the effect of taking that control from even the best of people. Despite how much she felt she was controlling things, really fate and luck were at the steering wheel as Alyson stared down into the darkness towards the ground.
A sound behind her startled Allie. A voice. Someone was here? She moved a little, almost losing her balance and having to shift her weight a little so she didn't fall over. Oh God, she was so drunk. She giggled to herself, eyes sparkling as a mischievous grin lit up her face. She was wasted on the rooftops at Springhill and could fall off and die at any second. It was absurdly hilarious, at least in her current frame of mind it was.
Remembering someone had spoken, Allie slowly turned round, her body still swaying backwards and forwards without her even realising it. If she'd been told to walk in a straight line, she'd have said no problem, then proceeded to stumble along in a somewhat curvy interpretation of straight. What kind of a state had she managed to work herself into?
"What was that?" she slurred, again nearly losing her balance with the effort it took to speak. She giggled, then prompty burst out laughing, not even sure what she was laughing at. Life. Her current situation. The stupid worried look the guy in front of her had on his face. How ridiculous she must look. Jeepers, did he really think she was going to jump? She didn't really intend to. Ok, so she'd considered it for a split second. But then the hilarity of her sad self got to her, and now all she could do was laugh and form completely random incoherent thought patterns. Lalala. She could stay like this for the rest of her life and not care less. They could throw her in the lululala bin and she'd just giggle her way through. Nothing could beat this.
Bracing her knees, Allie jumped quickly down off the ledge so she was again level with the guy, whoever he was. Whether it was the drink in her system or just pure ignorance, she was sure she didn't know him. Another giggle followed that realisation. Was he possibly a figment of her drunken imagination. "What are you and who are you doing here?"
The mismatched order of her words caused Allie to laugh even more. Then she abruptly stopped. She felt like another cigarette. With purpose she strode over to her bag, only to trip up and fall over...something. She couldn't quite work out what it was as she lay there, not bothering to get up, merely muttering "fuck" under her breath. Maybe drinking so heavily up here hadn't been the best idea.

SO YOU RUN AWAY FOR NO APPARENT REASON , y o u ' r e o b s s e d w i t h t h e s t a r s
This was, if nothing else, an interesting start to my time being here. I quickly discovered that she was indeed drunk, as she couldn't stop giggling. If she ended up constantly giggling when she was sober, I was going to have a problem. But at least right now I was alright. Wait, did I just say I was alright? I'm standing here looking up at a drunk girl I don't know looking like she's about to fall off a huge building. In fact, she almost looks like she think it may just be funny. Geesh, what did I drag myself into?
I relaxed when she finally ended up next to me, on the level ground that she couldn't fall from. Scratch that, she could fall from here, but I wasn't about to let her. Now that she was down here, she wasn't out of my site until she was out of my hands or somewhere she couldn't kill herself.
Her giggling was starting to get to me, but I blew it off and switched my weight over to his other leg, glancing over at Holliday. By now the dog was sitting up with his ears slightly back and his tail had stopped wagging. Yeah, I had the same feeling. But I was brought back by her question. Honestly, I wasn't sure how I understood it through her slur, but I managed. Then again, did it really matter if I answer correctly? It wasn't like she would notice if I didn't, and she wasn't going to be remembering this tomorrow, that's for sure. "Last time I checked, this was a free country," I pointed out after a moment. So I answered half of her question, it was better than nothing after all.
My eyes followed her as she walked over to her, I guess it was hers', bag and looked like she had a purpose when she tripped. Over...nothing, from the looks of it. And rather than getting up, she just laid there, making me groan. I should have just ran when I could. Without waiting for her to say anything, I walked over and bent down, grabbing her arm pits and pulling her off the ground. Yeah, she could beat me up all she wanted for that, and I had a feeling she might. Hmm, that might just be a good experiment...Anyways. "C'mon," I said to her, nodding my head in the direction of the stairs. No need to stay up here any longer than we had to. In fact, I was going to leave if she was coming or not. Walking over to the door, I opened it and glanced at Holliday. Rather than jumping up like he normally did, he just looked at me and laid down, his head on his paws. Okay, apparently we weren't leaving without the girl. "My name's Derek. I'm guessing you still know what your name is? Or should I ask later?"

i s e e s i g n s n o w a l l t h e t i m eYOU'RE NOT DEAD, YOU'RE SLEEPING- - - - - - - -Ew. Allie hadn't noticed the dog sitting beside him until just now. Her nose wrinkled. Who in God's name had allowed someone have a dog in school. She wasn't exactly a dog-hater, but seriously, ew. They were smelly animals with a tendency to wreck things. A dog in school? Who did this guy think he was, Elias Jones?
Lying there on the ground gave Allie another chance to look at the stars. They were so darn pretty. Her childish grin said it all. She might as well have been on cloud nine. Sad, the effect alcohol had on her. It took this to make her feel like life was even vaguely worth it. And even at that being drunk on the school rooftop wasn't really the ideal life. In fact it was anything but. Yet that was the depth she had sunk to today. Good for Alyson.
When he pulled her up from the ground Allie groaned, pouting. His hands dug in under her arms. "That hurrrt," she whinged, giving him the poutiest look she had, which ended up being little more than a silly face. She needed to work on some kind of sober-when-drunk act. Her friends seemed to be able to do it; act sober enough when they were really completely legless. Allie had never really picked up that trick on her travels, regrettably for her.
Leave? Now? Allie's brow wrinkled. But she didn't want to leave. With her eyes swimming she watched him go towards the door, confused. Here she'd thought she was making a new friend and he was leaving her there? Well she certainly wasn't going anywhere. Sitting down on the ground with a rather over-the-top bump she folded her arms, her expression stubborn. She was going nowhere, and neither, she noticed, was his dog. Ha. So the mutt maybe was useful. He would keep her company even if this guy didn't. David did he say his name was?
"I'm Lalyson," she mumbled, "Alysum.." Her features became a frown as she tried, and failed, to say her own name right. How much had she been bloody drinking? It all seemed to be hitting her now with a crash-on effect. "Aaaalllie" She drew the syllables out in her attempt to say her name somewhat coherently. The fact that she was making a complete fool of herself didn't really register with Allie. In fact, she found the whole situation rather humourous still.

SO YOU RUN AWAY FOR NO APPARENT REASON , y o u ' r e o b s s e d w i t h t h e s t a r s
Watching her, I couldn't help but slightly notice how cute she actually was. Without my permission my lips curved into something like a smile as I watched her curiously, wondering how one would go about getting themselves so drunk. Sure, I had been drunk before, but never that badly. In fact, I never found drinking to do any good for my life, so I managed to stay away from it most of the time. Though there was that one time at the party...Yeah, that was a good time. But besides that all it's done is allow me to make a huge fool of myself and pay for it later. Besides, I do like to remember what I did that night. It's something I really do like to know, if you get what I mean.
The groan I got from pulling her off the ground made me raise an eyebrow, crossing my arms over my chest. "Sorry?" As lame as it was, I wasn't sure what else to say. It wouldn't exactly be nice to just ignore her complaint, but at the same time I didn't really feel the need to make some sort of a funny remark. Oh, and as if that wasn't enough, I also got a look. It was, well, kind of like a funny face. While I knew it wasn't supposed to be silly, I had no idea what else she was aiming for right now. Well, I do suppose that's what you get for being drunk.
When I turned around again after almost making my escape, she was sitting down with her arms crossed and looking stubborn. At least she managed to pull off a stubborn look. Sighing, I decided that it would be easier to just go ahead and give in. Eventually she would want to leave, wouldn't she? Taking a seat next to Holliday, which was just a few feet from the girl, I smirked when she obviously couldn't pronounce her name. If we ever actually ended up as friends, I was never going to let her live this down. "So, Allie, why did you almost jump off the rooftop?" It was, without question, a very direct question. In fact, I wouldn't even be surprised if she just gave me a blank look and blew off my question. But it was obvious, at least to me, that something was wrong with her. Otherwise she would have gotten drunk somewhere more normal, like, oh, I don't know, a bar maybe? Why get drunk on a rooftop if you didn't have a plan to jump? Or at least that's the only way I can see it right now.
Maybe I was being a jerk by assuming she wanted to jump, but really...We all have considered it at least once in our life. Of course, most of us will never actually do it. But that can all change if you end up drunk...

i s e e s i g n s n o w a l l t h e t i m eYOU'RE NOT DEAD, YOU'RE SLEEPING- - - - - - - -Ha! She'd so totally won that battle, and it felt goood. Ok, so it wasn't a great victory really. Woohoo, they were staying up here for now. But to Allie in her condition that was pretty damn immense. She would have company, for the time being at least. Company when drunk was so much better than loneliness. For one thing company meant she couldn't go climbing up and end up falling off the roof to her death...
No, she wasn't thinking about death. That was way too depressing right now. Flowers, Stars, Sparkly girly things. She'd think about those. Allie sighed dramatically and plopped back so she was lying on her back staring at the sky. Ouch, that hurt. Wincing a little, she reached a hand blindly back to rub the spot on her head where she'd hit the concrete a little too hard. Damn this drunken aura she had, blocking her perception. She had no clue about space or time. God only knew how long she'd been up on the roof for now. Must have been a while, she had drank quite a lot.
Looking over at the empty cans Allie giggled a little. Had she really had all that to herself? Hell, it was a lot. At the time it hadn't seemed quite so much... Maybe one of the cans had been spiked. It was an absurd concept, but in her state it seemed a perfectly plausible explanation. In fact it seemed damn likely. Lalyson Bewitt could hold her drink like a man, damn it. She was a Hewitt. She should have been a man. She walked like one, talked like one, smoked like one. She'd have made an awesome guy.
"I think I'd make a good dude..." she said dreamily, looking up at the sky with a silly grin plastered on her face. She'd have made an awesome guy, it was true.
Almost jumped off the rooftop? Had she really been about to do that? Allie thought about it for a moment. Maybe she had been. She couldn't exactly remember. What she could remember was thinking of it, and considering the pros and cons of doing so. Had she been going to do it? Her head hurt trying to get around that one. She couldn't think straight, let alone work out if she'd really been thinking of jumping off the roof. "I don't know," she replied honestly, the same dreamy tone to her voice. She giggled again, and it turned into a hiccup and then a cough. She had to sit up, it was turning into a choke.
There she was, all better now. She should really give up smoking. Maybe tomorrow. Yes, that seemed like a good plan. Tomorrow she would give up smoking and jumping off the rooftops. Perfect. "You know what?" Now she had a plan she was resolved to share it with this new stranger. "I'mmana gib up smoking tomorrow. And jumping off the rooves." Her speech was well and truly messed up. It would be a miracle if he could make out even half of what she was saying. But Allie, not even considering this, made no effort to speak more clearly or correct herself.

SO YOU RUN AWAY FOR NO APPARENT REASON , y o u ' r e o b s s e d w i t h t h e s t a r s
I was slightly zoned out, totally lost in my own thoughts, when she spoke again. It took me a minute to figure out what she had said, and even then I wasn't so sure I had figured it out correctly. She thought she would make a good guy? I resisted the urge to laugh, settling for chuckling softly instead. Being a guy was a lot more complicated than she thought. It took me a minute, but I quickly figured out how she came up with such an interesting feeling. She thought that she could drink and smoke like a guy? Ha, that was a good one. Though I guess I didn't actually see her "in action", I had a feeling I could beat her any day. Not that I was about to try or anything, but I'm just saying...
Honestly, I wasn't expecting an answer to the question I asked her. I had been caught like this once, drunk and about to kill myself and I don't remember a thing. In fact, I'm not even sure what I tried to do anymore. But I believe someone tried to stop me, because I'm obviously still here. That's why her answer of 'I don't know' didn't really surprise me. Eventually I'd get an answer from her, or at least I'd try to. I would go and track her down later if I had to after this night was over, just to figure out what was up. By looking at her I couldn't really tell. Had her boyfriend broken up with her? Or had a family member died? There were so many different options that could make her almost kill herself. Though I do suppose that maybe she just got lost in the moment...Oh who knows.
Raising an eyebrow as a giggle turned into a cough and she had to sit up, I couldn't help but rub my forehead as I watched her. "You alright over there?" Maybe it was obvious that she was, but he figured that he might as well ask. Yawning slightly, I was surprised when she spoke again. Would I ever get used to what she said? Right now I was constantly surprised. Okay, it was cool to say that you would make an awesome dude. You could easily get away with that when you were drunk. But saying she was going to quit smoking? "Good luck with that. I'll hold it against you later," I said to her with a grin, leaning over and patting her knee.
Holliday stood up and wandered over near the edge of the roof before walking over and sitting next to me again. I couldn't help but constantly glance at him. Sometimes the dog was a bit different, and I have a feeling he wouldn't think twice about getting a bit too close to the edge of the roof. "You don't remember why you almost killed yourself...But you do know your name. Hmm. What else do you remember? Do you know what day it is?"

i s e e s i g n s n o w a l l t h e t i m eYOU'RE NOT DEAD, YOU'RE SLEEPING- - - - - - - -What day was it? Come on! She wasn’t that drunk. Allie thought for a moment, then swore under her breath. She’d started drinking on Friday evening. But then what if it was after midnight now? That would make it Saturday... Allie’s face wrinkled in confusion. Now her mind was just going round and round in circles in her attempt to work out whether it was today or tomorrow, or even yesterday. "Saturday?" Surely he would understand if it was really still Friday, right? He’d understand the confusion in her mind about the day of the week. If she only had a watch...
Alyson Hewitt frowned again. There was something...missing. She wanted something; she'd tripped up going over to her bag for it. Oh well, it wasn't coming to her now. Her mind was too frazzled to remember anything much. In the morning she knew she would wake up to wonder why she had allowed herself to get into such a state. Her head would be throbbing and she would be running to and from the toilet all day; hangover belly. But right now she wasn't thinking about that. No, the only regret she had now was that she couldn't quite remember what she wanted.
Feeling his hand on her knee Allie very nearly jerked away. She was in that frame of mind where paranoia set in. He was putting his hand on her knee, if only briefly, and to her that was making a move. But what tiny part of her mind was sober made her stay still. It wouldn’t have been in her best interests to accuse the guy of trying to feel her up when he was her only company, and possibly the only way she would ever get off this roof tonight without falling, whether that was down the staircase or off the edge of the roof.
Cigarettes! That was what she’d wanted. Alyson’s face lit up when she remembered and she reached over for her bag. It was a satchel sort of thing, brown, with badges plastered over the front. Allie was rather proud of the little collection she had going there. Jason had been the one to start her on it, giving her the first badge and telling her to keep adding to it. Now she had something like forty badges covering the front of her bag, making it weigh as much as a breeze block.
Anyway; her cigarettes. She had to focus a little better or she’d spend the rest of the night, or morning depending on what time it was now, trying to remember to have a smoke. Fumbling through her bag Allie grew steadily more annoyed at herself as she struggled to find her twenty-pack. It was a lost cause. Between her drunken lack of co-ordination and her swimming eyes there was no way she was going to find them. She sighed, holding her back out in Derek’s direction. "I can’t find my fags." When she had alcohol in her system Allie seemed to lose her manners rather quickly. When sober, although blunt, Allie at least knew how to use the words “please” and “thank you”. Now, however, manners were a lost cause.
