DECEMBER 1

Hup.. That's the only sound that was discernable aside from his shoes against the stones as he scaled the wall that surrounded the town of Varick where he'd been born a mere twenty-three years ago. His parents wouldn't be happy about him scuffing up his shoes and marring his suit with dust, but he wasn't truly worried about it. He would get no punishment, only a talking to with a pleading note in his dear mother's voice, and that would be it. He smiled at the thought of turning a bit more of her hair a silvery color with his antics. Sure, he wasn't a boy anymore, but he still loved a great adventure.. and since he didn't have one waiting for him, he'd simply have to create one.. which is why he was currently scaling the wall.

From here, he could see everything, and he loved it. It gave him a view that wasn't available from anywhere on the ground, and if you were going to learn about the town enough to report on it a few years from now in the courts, then something had to be done. This was his idea. Nobody else, that he knew of, had gotten this idea but him.. and he prided himself on it. Walking, almost strolling lazily, along the top of the wall's narrow path, he passed a few houses almost as if he were walking along the cobbled path below. He felt like a king surveying his own court as his light blue eyes skimmed along the tops of houses and in some cases, the top floors of others. His dark, wavy hair brushed the nape of his neck as it blew slightly in the wind.

As he crouched down, resting his forearms on his thighs, he caught ear of a voice on the wind. One he'd never heard before.. a female voice, at that. Far from being one that ignored the opposite sex, he looked around below him to spot a tall, lovely blonde dame casting her eyes up at him. From here, he couldn't tell what color her eyes were, but that hardly mattered. One's eye color didn't matter when he and the lady were doing the horizontal mambo beneath the sheets. Grasping the ledge of the wall, he hopped down like a pro, swiping his palms briefly against his slacks before bowing courteously. "Good day, m'lady. My, you're looking lovely in that dress. How might I help you?" he greeted her, his tone smooth and polite.

The Baroness knew that girl was here somewhere. Carnelian was a hard country to explore. People were always in large crowds, and most of the people never even said hello. That made Catherine go nuts. She did not like rudeness. Especially, coming from those lower than her. She was a woman of high class, and she ha many estates, and much, much money. Catherine had heard that her stepchild was sighted somewhere in court. But, where could she go from there? Absolutely nowhere! It was just a waste of her time. The Baroness figured since she was here........why not just have some fun? That fun could be anything. Catherine touched the stone wall, and enjoyed the sun shining down on her.

The Baroness lifted her head, and could see the outline of a man. She stepped back, and lifted her hand so she could get a better look a him.

He was the same age as her stepson, and he was a very, very handsome man. A smirk spread across her lips, and she thought why not have a little fun? "You boy," she continued," come here." Catherine was glad to see him come to her, like that! "Can you please help me. I'm looking for my child," she said to him.

He was far from a boy at the age of twenty-three, but he allowed her the slip-up.. if in fact it was one. He had no idea how old she was simply by looking at her.. but her next few words gave him a hint. A child? Just how old was this child? Was it a boy or a girl? He decided to ask, but tried to do so gingerly. "M'lady, may I inquire as to how old your child is and of what gender? I could be more certain or uncertain as to whether or not I have seen this person if I knew," he told her calmly and sweetly.

"You, however.. might I inquire as to your name? I am Lord Gawain Blackwell, son of Baron Armand Blackwell. I grew up here in this town, so if I've seen or heard of your child, I can no doubt tell you a few possible places he or she could go for safety and warmth in such bone-chilling weather," he continued. He wasn't telling of his father for pride's sake, but just in case the lady knew of his sire more than he. Sometimes it simply wasn't what you knew, but who.. especially now.

[[Sorry for the short length!]]

The Baroness smirked. "My Bridget is sixteen. And, she is a female. She is a very naive, yet sweet girl. I hate letting her out of my sight, in fact she has ran away from me to be correct. She is a good girl. But, it's the men I do not trust around her. I need her to come back home with me," Catherine said to him. It was not hard to miss Bridget either. Her innocent beauty was very rare. Hair as black as night, lips as red as blood, and skin as white as snow.

She was Catherine's little Snow Child. And, she wanted to catch that girl before she blabbed to anyone about how cruel the baroness was to her. She was still amazed that girl had escaped her very clutches. She let out a small hissing sound, but looked at Lord Gawain. She said to him," I am Baroness Catherine Moyer." She curtsied deeply, and looked at him with a seductive smile. "It is a pleasure to meet you Lord Blackwell."

He bowed graciously, his right forearm covering his waist as he had been taught when he was but a youth. "And it is a pleasure to meet you, Baroness," he replied with a wolfish but charming grin. It was one of his more favorited traits about himself, along with his eyes. They were an unusually light blue color, lighter than the skies themselves, and seemed to capture the attention of every young lady that passed him by.. and little did he know, the attention of a number of males as well.

He pursed his lips as he cast his eyes towards the sky, thinking. He had seen many a lady lately, but none that young nor one that looked like the baroness, provided that the young lady took after the older woman standing before him. With that, he shook his head. "I am sorry, Baroness, but I'm afraid I haven't seen the young lady you speak of. I'm certain I'd remember a woman that beautiful. I will ask around if you wish, but other than offering to escort you around the city to search, I'm afraid I have nothing more of value."

Catherine smirked at the handsome lad. He seemed to be a very polite young man. "You are very charming. And, may I also add very handsome," Catherine said to him. The Baroness remembered the day she had married Bridget's father. Catherine had actually thought she found the mand of her dreams. However, that was a complete lie. Thomas only married her for her money, and her title.

The Baroness was not happy at all. From that moment on she had become cold torwards him. "It is perfectly alright," she replied to him," she is a queit girl. And, I could understand most people not knowing her. She is a hard girl to come by. Even I would forget she was around. " Catherine chuckled thinking about her stepchild. Once she did find that girl....there would be hell to pay. Catherine shook her head, and stared at the young man. "I am sorry, my lord. I usually get lost in my thoughts," she continued," would you mind showing me around the court?"
