Name:Alonzo Cabrera
Pronunciation:Meaning: Alonzo means noble and ready.
Sex:Male
Age: 32
Race:Human
Orientation: Bi
Nationality: Earth
Height: 6 feet exactly
Weight: 155 lb
Eye Color: Blue
Hair Color/Style: Medium length, black and messy in style.
Physical Appearance: Alonzo is tall and kind of skinny, his build narrow and slight. His skin is a light tan, indicating his Mediterranean origins, although he tans well, he does not spend much time outdoors, at least, during the day. His nose is long and his features are somewhat sharp, with high cheekbones.
He is always well groomed, clean shaven and dressed well. His hair is artfully messy, deliberately styled that way because it suits him. In terms of clothing, his wardrobe is of high quality, a range of expensive designer outfits to suit all occasions. He owns one pair of jeans, and a couple of plain t-shirts, for those rare days where he doesn't leave the house. When he's out, he is dressed smartly in a suit and tie. Always. He has a collection of suits in various colours, mostly dark - black, charcoal and grey are his preference, and his shirts are plain, either white, blue or grey. His look is simple, smart and professional. He invariably has a pair of sunglasses as well.
Alonzo's life has not always treated him so well, however, and he does bear a few scars, each of which tells a tale. The most obvious is a long, thin scar down the right side of his face, acquired during the course of his work, a few years ago. He will never tell the story, but the injury was quite horrific, and he is lucky the scar is not as disfiguring as it could have been.
Occupation:Officially he is the owner of a small tapas bar in downtown Las Vegas. Unofficially, he is a loan shark and freelances, deeply involved in the black market and the criminal underworld, although he does not specifically belong to any one side. He's also known to get involved in 'wet work' from time to time.
Abilities: Alonzo's particular skill is in his ability to lie. He is phenomenally good at decieving people.
Marital Status: Single, with no intentions of being otherwise.
Family: Alonzo's father, Marco Cabrera came from Spain with his wife Felicita before Alonzo was born. He set up the family business in Las Vegas, which Alonzo inherited. He also has a sister, Adriana, who works as the head chef and has no idea of her older brother's involvement in the criminal underworld. They do not get along. Their parents are deceased.
Personality: Alonzo is very charismatic, he can be charming, persuasive, and seductive. He is an incredibly accomplished liar, able to convince virtually anyone of anything he chooses. He's manipulative, arrogant and selfish, and he will use people quite happily to get what he wants from them, with little care for the consequences for others.
He has little patience for sentiment, and he is cunning and intelligent. He can be cruel, and he has something of a sadistic side, taking pleasure in hurting other people, be it physically or psychologically. He presents an innocent face to the world, but in truth he thrives on the game of deception he plays. He has no patience for failure and he can be very quick to anger if someone gets in his way, and he will stop at nothing to get his revenge. It is rare for him to lose control of his emotions, instead he leashes them, only unleashing his wrath when the time is right.
History: Alonzo was born in the United States. His parents had emigrated together from Spain, so he does consider himself more European than American. He grew up in Henderson, Nevada, within sight of the fabulous Las Vegas. His childhood was relatively straightforward, for the most part. His family were working class, his father a chef, his mother staying at home to raise him and his younger sister. They managed to make ends meet, for the most part.
Alonzo learned to speak Spanish before he learned English, and he has equally good command over both languages. He was a clever child, the early years revealing a particular talent for talking his way out of trouble, often by blaming someone else. He made friends easily, losing them just as easily as they found themselves getting into trouble at his behest, while he got away with everything. At school he performed somewhat above average, although if he'd cared to apply himself he could probably have achieved outstanding grades. However, he found he had much more interest in the social minefield that all children find themselves trapped in.
He proved a charismatic and charming young man, but he found he did not care for people like they expected him to. He could make enemies as easily as friends, and he left a trail of broken hearts behind when he left high school. It was during these later years that he began to discover the darker side to Vegas. He'd been a smoker since age sixteen, drinking alcohol frequently from seventeen, and it wasn't long after that that he got mixed up in some more illicit substances. Alonzo never used to excess, however, and stayed in control of what he did. He made a few friends, got involved in petty crime and the like. He had a knack for not getting caught.
After graduating high school, Alonzo had no interest in going off to college, so he took a job in his father's restaurant, which helped him fund his other activities. By now he was dealing a little, getting involved in a little gambling and such, off the books. One night he was walking to his car, alone at 2am, when he was jumped by one of his 'customers'. A fight ensued, each trading a few blows until the guy pulled a knife. He got through, slicing a deep wound into the right side of Alonzo's face. It was the last thing the man did, Alonzo managed to grab the knife, stabbing the man deep in the heart and killing him. The wound he suffered has left a scar, one that has never truly faded. The investigation that followed left him clean... the evidence was clear that Alonzo had acted in self-defense.
After this, he resolved to make sure he never got into that situation again, making a point of using his free time to work out, training his body and improving his strength. A few friends taught him fighting techniques, the kind that you rarely saw in action movies. Real fighting, the kind that was quick, dirty and messy. From then on, he always carried a concealed blade when he was out. He learned a few things about guns too, but always preferred fighting up close. He was surprisingly unaffected by his first kill... the man had deserved it, and if Alonzo hadn't succeeded, he'd probably have ended up on the coroner's slab instead.
In the following few years, he worked himself deeper into the criminal underground, making something of a name for himself. He found there was plenty of profit to be made in lending money, especially so close to Vegas. He caught the attention of a few of the bigger names, doing odd jobs here and there, filling up his savings account pretty quickly. He moved out of the family home when he was 20, moving to the city. He did not attach himself to any particular group, often playing rivals off against each other, while succeeding in never pissing anyone off enough to try to take him out. His horizons were broadened significantly, and it wasn't long before he found himself carrying out more dangerous tasks, including the occasional 'removal' of someone important. He had a taste for blood, and a taste for pain. His parents both died the day before his 21st birthday, in a nasty car crash on the highway. Alonzo inherited the family business, and he makes use of it as a front for his other dealings, although in truth he leaves his sister to run the place day-to-day.
Notes: Anything you'd like to include that perhaps wasn't mentioned above.
Writing Sample: Important! Needs to be included! Remember, this is written in past-tense THIRD PERSON PERSPECTIVE, as in "Tilly ran outside to see what the commotion was," NOT "Tilly runs outside as he hears a commotion." Spelling, and grammar are also big, as this game will be heavy on dialogue.
