Maddison slowly brushed the tiny blonde hair as the girl sang one of her many made up song. The tiny child was the only year old but she seemed to be so grown up. Maddie smiled as the girl looked up at her. “Mommy, dada wik,”the tiny girl had her father beautiful green eyes, the eyes that would hunt her for the rest of her life. She leaned over and kissed the baby’s head as she looked up to her sleeping cousins. She shook her head softly,“sorry baby daddy’s not awake yet.”

She had no clue why her cousin was in the hospital, but when his brother called Maddison was there. It took her only a few minutes to pack and get to the airport. Tommy and Jake were like her brothers, the two people that were always there for her and her daughter. So it wasn’t any surprise that she was there when they needed her.
It took all the ex-dancer could do not to go hunt the person that did this to her best friend and stab them. The sudden squeal from her daughter shook her from her thoughts. She looked up to see the girl run behind the chair and shyly peek out

She smile and looked up to see the doctor coming in to check on Tommy. The man smiled and waved at Jasmine as she hided, Maddie stood up and shook the doctor hand. “Hi you must be Doctor Ross,” she smiled as she shook his hand.

“Yes I am,” he smiled, “and must be miss Suggit.”

She quickly shook her head, “no I’m just his cousin,” she reached down and picked up Jasmine. She turned to look and at Tommy as the doctor woke him. “Look Jasie,” she smiled as the tiny girl smiled excitedly. “DADA!” the tiny girl squealed.

Tommy’s dreams were a bit drugged. It seemed to be the only way he could sleep, what with the nurses coming in every hour or so to do checkups. The medicine twisted his last encounter with Ofelia into a sort of nightmare. The black cloaked man she’d been hallucinating was real and he meant to take the woman away from Tommy. The black cloak was the only thing Tommy feared, if not for himself than for his loved ones. Death.

His forehead had probably wrinkled as he struggled inwardly; trying to beat the reaper away from Ofelia even as it whittled him down to nearly nothing. If Tommy couldn’t make her think herself strong enough, how could he possibly be strong enough for her? Voices began mixing in with the dream and the annoying occasional beep of medical equipment.

The voices were slightly distorted and dull.

”…just his cousin.”
“It seems you have visitors.”
There was a gentle shaking of his shoulders and Tommy’s eyes opened, though a bit stubbornly.

A smile instantly spread across his face as his vision sharpened to normal and he made out Maddie. His eyes found the tiny girl, practically his niece, almost instantly after that. He called out to her after she did the same, ”Jazzy.” The little girl clumsily made her way to his bedside, her hair barely visible over the edge. But her hands were up in the air, opening and closing rapidly as she made, ’uh, uh, uh’ noises at Tommy.

Tommy grinned and slowly pulled himself up in the bed, moving the pillows behind him into a prop of sorts. He groaned as he lifted Jasmine up onto the bed with him. He shrugged as the doctor gave him a small disapproving look. ”Could you say no to this face?”

Maddison continued to watch as the Doctor left given them his polite goodbye. “Goodbye Doctor,” she smiled what could that doctor be thinking. She had told him that they were only cousin but here was this tiny child was calling them both mommy and daddy. It was always fun to see people’s faces when that kind of thing happened. Jasmine called everyone close to her diferent things. Tommy was Daddy, Maddison uncle and aunt was pop pop and nana and Jake was Daky. She didn’t have the heart to tell the girl truth, her real grandparnets died when Maddison was only six and her father’s parents blamed Maddie for their son’s death. They didn’t want anything to do with Jasmine because of that.

Madison had tried hard to introduce the tiny girl to the couple but they wouldn’t have it. “We don’t want anything with that demon child,” they spat many times. Maddison finely gave up on trying to force them to see their granddaughter and left it to Jasie to do when she was old enough. She knew her daughter was the best thing to happen to the world, but if they didn’t want anything to do with her she wasn’t going to say anything. She looked at Jasmine as the girl start singing again.

It wasn’t long till the girl started her playful bouncing trying to get Tommy to bounce her on his knee. Maddison quickly went to grab the girl but before she could he moved her to the bed. “No, no baby,” she gently moved a strained of hair from the girls tiny face, “daddy can’t handle that right now.” She looked back at Tommy, she wasn’t happy with his answer but that would have to except it for now. After everything was settled she would press for more answer, but for now the answer would have to do.

She looked at Jasmine as the girl spook saying “Puck” instead of Punk. She let out a soft giggle and kissed the girls head, as she watched the girl call Tommy a Puck then giggled. She then turned her attention back to Tommy “Were you angry at this guy for something,” She knew how Tommy was. Tommy had been in so many fights when they were kids because of his anger. It was normally something silly but once made him mad enough he’d fight. She could remember the first time Ethan got back from boot camp. Him and Tommy got into fight for something, they both fought till they couldn’t anymore. Then they laughed about it but at the time it was a big deal. She looked at him and shook her head, “I’m not leaving your side again,” she smiled, “crazy things happen when I’m gone.”

The doctor just shook his head again but this time with a small grin. ”I suppose not. Just try not to yank your stitches out again.” Doctor Ross made a few checks on his clipboard and then gave them a polite goodbye before leaving them alone in the room.

Tommy smiled down at Jasmine as she clapped her hands non-rhythmically. Her big eyes looked up at him and she bounced slightly. It wouldn’t have normally bothered the man but with the sting in his gut it caused Tommy to groan quietly. He continued to smile at the little girl though, as he shifted her onto the bed beside him. He turned his attention to his cousin then, her tone a bit concerned if not scolding. Maddie had meant for it to sound lighthearted but he had known her long enough to know better. Hell, he’d known her since birth. Her tone was light but Tommy could catch the air of worry.

Before he could reply Jasmine chimed in, making him smile again. He didn’t understand why she had started calling him Daddy. It had begun almost the second the girl had started talking. Ethan hadn’t been around to…Tommy tried to avoid those thoughts. He missed the man and he hated feeling so sad. Tommy had never been able to handle grief very well.

Tommy glanced back at his cousin but quickly moved onto Jasmine again. Maddie had given him a look he knew well. There was no way he was going to tell her the truth, not in its entirety anyway. She would die from fretting and then get pissed. There was nothing she could do about it anyway. She would probably try to make him go to the police about Levi and there was no way in hell. Tommy wanted to handle the little prick himself.

Tommy didn’t look back at Maddison as he answered. ”It was just a punk that didn’t know how to fight fair. No big deal.” She shouldn’t be surprised. When they were younger Tommy had always gotten into trouble for fighting. He had been taught to defend himself and whoever else needed it.

Tommy chuckled at Jasmine as she attempted to call him a punk and her tiny fist shot toward his chin. The man caught her hand and used it to bop her softly in her own head. ”Jazzy, why are you hitting yourself?!” He faked a look of shock, his eyes wide and his mouth open. He made her bop herself in the side of the head again. She giggled like mad. ”No, Jazzy. Don’t beat yourself up! What are you doing?” Even over the tiny one’s squeals of delight Tommy could hear his cousin’s question.

It was the sound of her not being convinced by his answer. He didn’t take his eyes off of Jasmine as he replied, still making the little girl giggle and wiggle about. ”It’s no big deal, Maddison.” His voice was stern and the use of her full name was surely enough for her to tell he was serious and that she was to push the subject no further.

He sighed slightly, smiling tightly as Jasmine flopped back onto the bed beside him. He watched her brush at the hair in her face, sighing herself as if she had just worked a long day or something of the sort. Tommy’s eyes sparkled slightly as he watched her, the smiling relaxing into a genuine one. She was so precious.

His eyes found his cousin’s face again as she spoke. He was just glad that she wasn’t going to continue to badger him about the fight. At least not at the moment. Not in front of Jasmine. With a teasing tone, Tommy poked harmless fun at the woman. ”Aw, come on, Maddie. You know you can’t be a leech forever. You’re gonna have to detach yourself to find some poor sap to buy you nice things eventually.”

Maddie smiled as she watched the two play in the bed. “Be careful Tommy don’t rip anything,” she voiced her concerns then turned to her daughter who was giggling at the fake punches. Her sharp squeals of laughter filled the room as her mother kneeled beside the bed. As she watched the two of them . She had almost forgot about her question when Tommy spoke to her. He voice strein and demanding.

Maddie had seen that in only two other people, hers and Tommys grandfather and Tommys father. It was scary sometimes how the three men resemble one another. When they said something it was most likely meant it and if they used that disciplined tone you better listen. She had only had it used on her a few times, but every time it made her heart stop. She nodded at him and let the conversation drop. She knew Tommy well enough to know he wouldn’t hide it for forever but for now he wasnt going to tell her.

She turned back to Jasie as the young girl poked her in the head. “Dink,” Jasie said as she laid her head down on top of her mothers. Maddie smiled and grabbed the tiny girls Sippy cup. The cool pink liquid was halfway full as she handed it to the girl. “Here baby,” her eyes shoot up to Tommys once more as he called her a leach. “Nope I’m going to stick to you like glue Tommy Indigo Suggit and nothing you can do about it,” she giggled. “You never know the next time you pass out I might get them to sow us together.” She looked at him and smiled.

Little Jazzy had settled down after a bit more rough play. She nestled into his side on the narrow hospital bed and Tommy wrapped an arm around her. The toddler pulled at his fingers in an attempt to tighten his hold on her, so he hugged her closer. The girl leaned toward her mother and poked her in the head, voicing her need for her sippy cup. Tommy pulled her hand back by the wrist softly, no need to get onto her for poking Maddie. Instead he simply said, ”Jazzy, you better start saying your please and thank you’s. You know better.”

Jasmine took the cup from her mom and brought it to her mouth, tilting her head back more than really necessary. Her big eyes looked up innocently into her uncle’s face. All he could do was shake his head slowly. ”I swear, you brat.”

He focused back on his cousin with a grin. ”Fine, Maddison Leann Demetriou. I’ll be your conjoined twin but just know that I will be as annoying as humanly possible. I’ll try my damn-est to be more so.” He stuck his tongue out then.

Maddison giggled as her cousin got on to the small girl. It wasn’t often Tommy corrected the child and even when he did it was more of him giving the child advice. He was almost as bad as his dad when it came to the girl, but no one beat Tommy and Maddison grandpa. He elderly man gave the tiny child anything she wanted; she could do no wrong in his eyes. She then turned to the small girl that dropped the cup back to her lap with the sound of a happy sigh.

Her emerald green eyes sparkled brightly as she smiled at her mother, “Tanks Mommy.” Maddison couldn’t help but smile at the girl as watched her, “your welcome you monster you.” She gently ruffled the girls hair before laughed at Tommy’s comment. The girl really did love her uncle Tommy and Maddison was sure that would never change, but she wished her daughter would have gotten to meet the man that gave her life.

Ethan was great to her even if she was fifteen when they started dating, but then again she was mature for her age. Maddison had been through a lot growing up, her parents died when she was six making it her grandparents job to raise her. Then her uncle and aunt took over when they couldn’t anymore. She was thankful but deep she missed her parents. She looked back at the man with a weak smile.
