Updates Staff
Skinners?
I could have sworn I put this in the last update, but evidently, it had slipped my mind. Heh. ^^; If anyone is interested in making a spring-themed skin for SW, please PM me with examples and such. =D It would be most appreciated (unless everyone would prefer the winter skin to stay for another season, as it is gorgeous <3). Thank you! --Megg

Spring!!
It is now spring on Shadow Whispers, and unfortunately, we have not been blessed with any puppies. However, maybe that means that activity will keep rising like it has been? =D Keep up the good work!

Last year's puppies are now one year old and can go for ranks if they wish. Remember to age your wolves one year now, because of the season, and role play accordingly! Any and all threads started after today must be set in spring, however, any ongoing ones from winter may remain winter threads.

Thank you, and enjoy the season! --Megg

Sarion Harbor
Sure, the bay stretches on for miles, but at one point, the sand curves in steeply, and then swerves out, to make a pretty tiny, but homey looking harbor. Tiny, as in if you ran along the beach, it’d be around a mile and a half long. What looks like a thick forest lines the edge of the beach, making Tzigane appear foreboding and malevolent to those wandering the waters. Inside the harbor, it is dreadfully shallow, making it probably the best place to swim, and probably the best place for fishing in Tzigane. This also is a very common place to meet the other pack wolves, who come to dine in the protected waters of Sarion Harbor.

Tzigane Mountains
Extending into the Tzigane territory, the name changes but the mountains don’t. The individual mountains are about 3,000 feet in height, though the largest ones can extend up to 5,000. The mountain range consumes a smaller area of Faeyir as it begins to curve away, but it still covers many miles of the territory. The mountains are littered with a variety of Oak, White Birch, and Mountain Maple trees, though they host a large share of various coniferous trees as well. The land is quite rocky, which makes the mountains an often less-than-ideal hunting spot, as it’s easy to get hurt. Due to the altitude, it typically snows more in the mountains, often starting in early October, and ending in Mid May.

Twin Willows
Close enough to the mountains that from the peaks, you can see the willows, these two weeping willow trees have been standing for what seems like forever. Both are incredibly large, their trunks alone spanning twenty feet, about ten feet away from each other, the entire area between them sheltered by the branches of the willows. A very private place, it can be very romantic, particularly during the summer. This season heralds a large number of dragonflies and fireflies during the night hours, and shards of the moon can be seen through the entwined branches if one were to look in the right places.

Solita Forest
Covering a large portion of the Tzigane lands is a forest of pine, elm, and oak tress. There are a few places in which the trees are so dense you cannot see through them, but there are others where they are sparse and create small groves in which wolves may meet to be alone. Depending on the size of the grove, pack meetings, pack gatherings, or play dates between puppies may be arranged to occur in the forest, particularly on a sunny day.

**This is a loner accessible border. If interested in joining the pack, please post an appropriate topic here.**

Giften Swamp
Behind the forest is a rather large swamp, surprisingly. Oh, one might think that makes it less cryptic, but no, Giften Swamp is one area where trespassers will surely find themselves lost... and probably stuck. Tzigane wolves, though, take pride in their ability to navigate through this muck. From the time they were born, they have been taught that the swamp is both a cruel beast, and a proud guardian. Sure, the Sarion is great place to fish, but the pack wolves are naturally drawn to the swamp to hunt, where the chase really is a deadly game. A good percentage of the catch doesn’t actually end up falling prey to the wolves jaws though, most of the time, it is ensnared in the verdant vines that grope at their victims. Whoever you are, be careful not to walk into the muddy waters... there’s creatures in there it’s not wise to dine with.

Roots of Solita
Along the edge of Solita Forest, positioned within the side of a ridge where the fir trees grow most densely together, there is a complex network of roots. When the hurricane ripped through the land, destroyed the previous territories beyond recognition, these roots were exposed. Although, at first glance, they appear to be of little use, they actually have grown in such a way that dens have been formed. The roots are so closely entwined with one another that they have developed into thick walls and surprisingly water-proof ceilings. Openings large enough to allow a wolf to move through lead into each individual chamber, which vary in size from fairly substantial to only large enough for a single wolf to squeeze in. The only downfall is that there are often tiny openings that allow eyes to peek through, thus privacy is often lacking.

**This is the den area for Tzigane wolves.**

Thanos Ridge
On the other side of the mountains that bordered the lands is a stepping path that leads to Thanos Ridge, a cliff now jutting out over a great deal of water. The surface of it is slick and uneven, so it is best to avoid the area or be most careful if it cannot be avoided. Even the name of this place carries death in its tone, as if the earth was angry when forming this landmark. This is a very difficult place to reach unless one be so determined to get to the ridge above the murky floodwaters. The remains of Merry Creek still run beneath the floodwaters and will someday prevail as the floodwaters recede.

Eazgue Island
Though the wolves of the area call this little outcrop an island, it can hardly be construed as such. Usually surrounded by high and raging waters, this tiny patch of land remains nearly the only remnant of the place known as Nowles. Dark green trees cover nearly every square inch, though there is a small strip of dirt that acts as a beach. When it is high tide, it is impossible to reach Eazgue Island, though when the tide lessens there is a small sand bar on either side that gives good access to both packs. There is something eerie about this island, however, that makes wolves wary to go near it - the whispers of the dead whistle through the trees, and one can almost see the accusations in their ghostly eyes...

Calico Bay
There isn’t much to say about this place, because it’s a bay. Your everyday, normal bay. The sandy coastline stretches out like a cougar in the sun, and from end to end, the surf is rather vast, with not even an estimate in miles, and every inch of that is sand, fog, and seaweed. On very rare occasions, you can actually see the island looming out of the water... except, normally all you see is fog. There’s a few decent fishing spots though, like where the river empties into the briny water, or a rocky outcrop.

Atra Caverns
Deep into the foot hills at the edge of the mountains lies an intricate set of pathways carved into a hill. No one knows how these tunnels were constructed, and most hardly care to find out, knowing that a much greater power must be behind it. A majority of these tunnels meander for hours until finally coming promptly to an end. Some, though, widen out and open up into a gloriously large cave. Not many know of this cave, and the few who do tend to keep it secret. There’s nothing down here but bats and haunted legends, but those who do come down here know it as the best place to hide their tales and gossip. Only the brave venture down here, but only the sinful find reason to.

Amaraj Mountains
Building off the timberline are the mighty Amaraj Mountains. They can’t compare to the largest mountain in the world, but the chain of mountains varies in height. The individual mountains are about 3,000 feet in height, though the largest ones can extend up to 5,000. The mountain range makes up a good portion of the western half of Amaraj, and extends north from there for many miles. The Amaraj Mountains are littered with a variety of Oak, White Birch, and Mountain Maple trees, though they host a large share of various coniferous trees as well. The land is quite rocky, which makes the mountains an often less-than-ideal hunting spot, as it’s easy to get hurt. Etiny Stream
The Etiny stream branches into and fills Therch Lake. It is fairly large in size, reaching thirty yards across and goes as deep as ten feet, though is slow moving. The only time it truly has any rush to it is in the spring, when the snowmelt makes it flood. This is the main fresh water source of the Amaraj wolves, and makes up most of the eastern border. Though, due to the clear obstacle, loners cannot access this border. The stream gets a bit rocky in places, and forms small rapids; this also makes the banks run deeper. Younger wolves should stay away from these areas.

Therch Lake
Therch Lake sits at the heart of Amaraj territory, just inside the interior mountains and is fed by Etiny stream. Bordered by trees, there is about fifty yards of clear shore, where the visitors can bask. Often times, in the spring due to the snowmelt on the mountains, the river will swell and cover most of that open space. It is fairly large, and covers about ten square miles. Most wolves like to take a swim here during the hot summer months, though the water can get a bit putrid under the summer sun. It is a good place to find fish of decent sizes, though Amaraj wolves aren’t big fishers. An area of greater interest would include the large amount of prey it attracts on hot days.

Indrae Fields
What land is not covered by forestry and mountains is covered by a large plain, known as the Indrae fields. It extends through about one third of the Amaraj territory, covering most of the east side. Prey is most commonly found here, and is easy to hunt on the flat land. The grass does not grow considerably tall, trampled down by passing herds of elk. In the spring it is home to goldenrod and other wildflowers. In the summer, the field becomes ablaze with the reds and oranges of the Indian paintbrush flower. Varieties of butterflies and hummingbirds flit around the fields. It can be a wonderful place to sit down to a sunset with a lover or family.

Chesae Caves
Etched into series of outcrops against the side of a larger mountain, many tunnels and hollows lie within various openings that crease the walls of rock. Though the small openings are deceiving, the cavities in the side of the mountain are rather large, some being able to hold several wolves. The tunnels are more complex and though they can more easily protect the wolves from the frigid winter, they are easy to get lost in if one ventures too far. The caves are elevated about fifteen feet above the ground level, but a stone ramp leads up to them that is easy enough for the young and elderly to climb without hassle. However, when wet the ramp becomes treacherous.

**This is the general den area for Amaraj wolves.**

Jarris Beach
As one of the borders of the territory, Amaraj hosts a long sliver of the bay’s beach. Though there is a dusting of sand, the beach is for the most part rocks, with much of the ground being covered by small, smooth pebbles, and the occasional larger ones. A few flat, short boulders are scattered along the length of the beach, and are a nice place to bask in the sun. The water proves to be a good place to swim during the hot months of summer, and when food is scarce in the winter, it can provide a steady supply of shellfish to sustain the wolves, if they don’t mind standing in the icy water to get to them.
