The Long Version

Complete information on Freeport's geography, society, and other topics of interest can be found in its ever-growing Archive post, here.

The Short Version

Freeport is an independent port city on the eastern coast of Maceria, a short distance north of the Skaelian Empire. Its exact location is unknown to all except native Freeporters and a few trusted outsiders, with good reason: Freeport is the largest pirate haven in the region, and the bane of the Imperial Navy. Dozens of raiders sail from the secret harbour, preying on merchant vessels and wreaking havoc across the Zeland waterways, only to slip back into the mists and disappear before the military can catch up with them.

The city is one of the only democratic societies in the Sea of the Mists. Every Freeporter is considered equal and free regardless of race, sex, profession or lineage, and has an equal say in how their town is run. Freeport is a very permissive society with few laws, an inclusive nature, and a strong culture of liberty.

Freeport is often pitted against the Skaelian Empire and the Ny'Auvrea elves, and although strange and exotic Tregula has a "live and let live" attitude toward Freeporters, it is less than pleased with the piracy against its merchant vessels. The only 'ally' Freeport has currently is Red Queen, a powerful pirate leader who also happens to be targeted by Tregula's and the Empire's navies.

Playing a Freeporter

Freeport is always looking for more characters, whether they happen to be business owners, soldiers, adventurers, or average people living their lives day-to-day. Many different peoples and races live side by side in the hidden town, working together toward their goals and to protect the society they've built. To native Freeporters, prejudice is an ugly thing, and they hold very few. They cherish individuality, self-sufficiency and co-operation, but despise domination and coercion. Honest persuasion is generally acceptable, but forcing another person to do one's will is viewed as a serious breach of social conduct - and in some cases, a crime.

Most Freeporters feel an intense animosity toward Skaelia and the Ny'Auvrean kingdom for the death and misery they believe these two powers spread in the name of domination. It's important to note that they do not hate the common Skaelian and Ny'Auvrean, though; rather, Freeporters tend to pity these people as abused subjects, pawns in the power games of their illegitimate leaders.
