The City of Freeport

Sandwiched on a narrow plateau between the Orguth's Teeth mountain range in the west and sheer cliffs plunging into the pounding surf on the east, the Free City occupies a unique and precarious position on the eastern Macerian coast. Freeport is a bustling commercial city flush with seaborne trade, and is even beginning to show signs of advanced industry thanks to the ingenuity of its craftsmen. A haven for pirates and mercenaries, the city is derided by the Skaelian Empire as a hive of the very lowest human scum, thieves and traitors who forget their place in the world. To the freeporters and others, it is the final refuge of freedom and the one place where anyone can become something, regardless of the situation they were born into.

Underhall

This ancient structure rests below the city proper, built into the very cliff face itself. At one time, Underhall was a mighty citadel that protected the eastern coast of Maceria from external threats, but today it serves as Freeport's harbour, main storehouse, and commercial quarter catering to adventurers. Despite the fact that only a handful of people actually live in Underhall, it is sometimes referred to as the “city below the city”.

Ashvale

The lowlands north of Freeport are rich with fertile soil, fed by the waters of the Ash River, making this an ideal location for farming. Ashvale is the breadbasket of Freeport, ensuring a regular supply of food for the city so its people do not become dependent on smugglers for supplies. Farms typically produce hardy crops, such as wheat, potatoes, roots, and a few vegetables. Livestock ranches dot the foothills to the west, where sheep and cattle graze on the plentiful grasses, strangely untroubled by the deafening blasts that regularly emanate from the curious workshop that sits off the main road.

The Black Forest

A few short miles southwest of Freeport lies a densely wooded area nestled within the only reasonably traversable pass through Orguth's Teeth. Locals know the territory as the Black Forest, not for the serene, natural tranquility that rules over its outskirts, but the eerie, eldrich forces lurking near its dark heart. Never in Freeport's entire history has anyone found their way to the other side of the wood, as if the trees themselves are preventing people from reaching the other side.

The Imperial Capital

Reputedly the only urban centre remaining from the Old Age, Skaelia City is the true hub of the Skaelian Empire. This is where races mingle and cultures collide, where any good, service, or vice you seek can be found. It is the first place outsiders see when they come to the Sea of the Mists, and the last place they see when they leave.

Skaelian Empire East

The heartland of the empire lay to the east of the river Gergov and south of the Macerian Wall. Life in this part of the sea is given a veneer of tranquility by civilisation, but do not be fooled: great danger and adventure still awaits the intrepid here. Encompassing the areas of Skaelia, Zeland, and Folge Island.

Skaelian Empire West

Beyond mighty Gergov lies the vast lands of Navonesia and the Low Marsh, where sophisticated Skaelian culture and the rugged, practical lifestyle of barbarians live side-by-side. As one journeys farther from the eastern boundary and a smattering of Navonesian cities the crown's authority begins to wane, and one must rely on their own strength to survive.

The Cursed Sea

Where men once held dominion over the sea, the Age of Chaos saw the sea come to hold dominion over men. Kingdoms sank and armies drowned until the nations which survived the millennium of discord were reduced to a pale shadow of their former glory. Of all the treasures to be found in the Sea of the Mists, none are greater than those which are lost beneath the waves, but adventurers beware: of all the perils in the Sea of the Mists, none are greater than what lurks in the sea itself.
