When the girls and I first decided on making the site, we sort of opted against Of The Months. They are more like a popularity contest than anything else, and it just seems really... rude I guess. The only one I think we all agreed on was "Member of the Month", and it wouldn't be based on "who is most liked" on the board, but more like "Who is most dedicated, and committed, active, and so on." But quite honestly even that would be difficult because there are so many of you that are dedicated, committed, and active to the site. So I don't know. I'll talk it over with Kelli and Emily, but really I'm not a huge fan of the "of the month" idea simply because it ends up being this huge popularity contest and people often get their characters left out. We'll see though. Thank you for the suggestion hun!

I've seen some sites that opt out of "the month" stuff but have this nifty little widget that has clever quotes from character's posts. It was neat to read through them and at the same time get a feel for how members of the board post. Not only did admins put quotes in but members could also submit lines. That way everybody gets a little slice of the pie while being on the sidebar.

I hope that made any sense.

Going along with what Jas said, the sites I've been on always had a "Favorite Quotes" thread, where people would post excerpts from others' threads that were really good- funny, descriptive, or whatever. That was always fun to read, as it would direct me to places to lurk that I wasn't aware of. :)

Those are brilliant ideas guys! I love it!

I could see how it could be taken as a popularity contest, but i like the quotes thread idea too

not only are of the months kind of awkward sometimes, but they're also just a lot of work to keep up with, especially when there are a lot of them. every site i've been a part of who does them just kind of gives up and stops doing monthly awards. xD

anyway, the quotes thread idea sounds totally awesome. we'll get to work on some kind of template... do you guys have any idea for how it could work? should we have a submission code or..?

maxwell a. llewellyn - February 26, 2012 08:55 AM (GMT)
maybe we can find some kind of rotating code or a marquee code and once a month do a submission thread where we all pick three...you admins can decide on three, four, or five that you like the best or have the most votes or whatever...

i think a little rotating banner/advert for the thread would be a cute little sidebar thing-i might be able to whip up a few designs here if it sounds like something we'd be interested in....thoughts?

Well of course it's a popularity contest! Popular characters get rewards for being awesome. But I don't care that much. Cause I'm awesome regardless~ I'd probably win all the prizes anywayyyyyysss. But yeah! I've seen the lil widget thing used before.

Is one that's pretty simple to use and I think everyone can just add whatever they wanted to. xD

delilah... how does that work. o__o i can't seem to figure out the website!

and kylie, if you want to come up a few things that'd be awesome. :) i think it would be cool to have it in the sidebar... haven't discussed this with my fellow admins but this is just my opinion. xD it'd be a nice way for guests to check out what the writing is like on our site without having to search through threads.

I second what Kelli just said.
