Biography

Marisa Miller (born August 6, 1978) is an American supermodel. She is known for her many appearances in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues and Victoria's Secret catalogs. She is the Swimsuit Issue cover model for the 2008 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue and a Victoria's Secret Angel.

Career
Atypically, Marisa was able to move from a start as an amateur magazine model to high profile mainstream work after she was spotted by fashion photographer Mario Testino in Manhattan Beach, California in 2001. Noticing Marisa, Mario snapped pictures of her and approached her for a job offer. Soon after, Marisa worked with the likes of Victoria's Secret and has appeared in every issue of the coveted Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue since 2002. In particular, she was featured in the 2004, 2005, 2007, and 2008 editions' sections of body painting featuring the work of Joanne Gair. Raphael Mazzucco's handbra photograph of Marisa wearing nothing but an iPod in the 2007 edition became one of the most famous photos ever published in that magazine. As part of the Sports Illustrated 50th anniversary celebration, she was selected to duplicate some of the swimsuit issues most memorable photos of models such as Tyra Banks, Cheryl Tiegs, Daniela Pestova, and Cindy Crawford. She's also appeared in other magazines such as Fitness, Shape, GQ, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, Elle, and Vogue, as well as working on campaigns for Nordstrom, J.Crew, and Tommy Hilfiger. In 2004, she served as a modeling judge in the short-lived reality television series Manhunt: The Search for America's Most Gorgeous Male Model. In the same year she also appeared in Puddle of Mudd's music video for "Spin You Around".

In 2007, Marisa shot her first television commercial for Victoria's Secret with fellow supermodel Heidi Klum. Marisa caused quite a stir, unexpectedly drawing more attention than Klum, as well as appearing in a cameo on the HBO show Entourage. Marisa was also featured as a model on the pilot episode and the finale of the VH1 reality show The Shot.

On November 26, 2007, Marisa made a special guest appearance on How I Met Your Mother (episode: "The Yips") with her fellow Victoria's Secret supermodels (Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, Selita Ebanks, Miranda Kerr, and Heidi Klum). Eight days later, on December 4, 2007, Marisa made her debut at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

On the February 12, 2008 episode of The Late Show with David Letterman it was announced via a three-story billboard in New York City that Marisa would grace the cover of the 2008 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. The tandem online launch of the 2008 issue drew record page views to the SI website: 228 million, a 41% increase over 2007.

Marisa's next big assigment was a five-city tour to promote the launch of the Victoria's Secret 2008 Swim collection in stores. The April-May tour included stops in New York City, Miami, Chicago, Boston, and Minneapolis, where Marisa signed copies of the Swim 2008 catalogue for fans.

She is currently designing a shoe line with Vans.

In the media
The swell in publicity resulting from her 2008 work served to land Marisa in the number one spot on Maxim magazine's "Hot 100" rankings for 2008, beating out list regulars such as Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel, and Eva Longoria-Parker. This marked the first time anyone has debuted on the list in the number one position. She also finished first place in The Best Damn Sports Show Period "Smokin' Sixteen" competition in 2008, repeating her 2007 win over competitors such as supermodels Gisele Bundchen and Adriana Lima. Also in 2008, Marisa ranked #9 in the Askmen.com's "Top 99", an increase of three places from the previous year, which was a two-place increase itself from 2006.

Charitable work
Marisa is currently an ambassador for the American Cancer Society. She also supports the Young Survival Coalition, which seeks to promote awareness of breast cancer in women in their 20s and 30s,[24] as well as environmental organization The Surfrider Foundation, which aims to preserve the world's oceans and beaches.

Personal life
Marisa married Jim Miller, a Los Angeles surfing contest promoter and lifeguard from California in 2000 and separated from him in 2002. They divorced soon after. She married Hollywood producer Griffin Guess on April 15, 2006. Marisa enjoys football, muscle cars, cooking, and boxing. From an early age she loved surfing; in 2004, she placed second in the celebrity division of the Kelly Slater Surf Invitational behind Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction fame. She was a standout volleyball player on her high school team, and has long been a big sports fan in general. She has said that if she weren't a model she would be a sportscaster.

Quotes
"The first thing I do every morning is go online to check the surf. If the waves are good, I'll go surf. The beach is 10 minutes away."

Biography
Born on August 6, 1978, in the coastal city of Santa Cruz, California, Marisa Miller was a star volleyball player in high school. In fact, in her junior year, thanks to her position as outside hitter, her team never lost a game.

Marisa Miller's first modeling gig was in 1998 when she appeared nude in Perfect 10 magazine. Although she did several other spreads in the magazine after that, her modeling career didn't seem to be going anywhere.

That is, until a chance meeting changed the course of her life forever. In 2001, she drove to Manhattan Beach, California, to surf, and famous fashion photographer Mario Testino happened to be on the beach.

Mesmerized by Marisa Miller and her singular appeal, he took some pictures of her. Just like Rebecca Romijn, who was discovered in the same manner, Marisa was offered a chance to become a model. Her mother, Krista, encouraged her to pursue this profession, saying, "You can always go back to school, but you can't always model." Stimulated by these words, Marisa Miller took the plunge.

Soon thereafter, she was offered the opportunity to appear within the pages of the 2001 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Obviously, this secured Marisa Miller's place within the modeling industry. As a result, Victoria's Secret hired her to model lingerie for its catalogs.

Many other companies also noticed Marisa Miller, and she was soon appearing in publicity campaigns for Tommy Hilfiger, J.Crew and Nordstrom.

With her stock rising, her face was seen on the cover of magazines like Vogue, Fitness and Shape. It's no wonder Sports Illustrated called her back for the 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 Swimsuit Issues.

That same year, she showed off her surfing skills to the world when she came in second place at the celebrity edition of the Kelly Slater Invitational in Fiji.

Marisa Miller also proved that she has a big heart when she participated in the Fashion for Relief benefit show in September 2005. Along with many other celebrities, including Nicole Richie, Beyonce, Naomi Campbell, Kelly Osbourne, and Rachel Hunter, Marisa Miller helped raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
