Please, do come in. And I shouldn't worry too much about treading on the carpet; it's already steeped in sand, litter and entrails as it is.

L.T.B.L, if you had not already guessed, is a horror-fantasy board revolving around the fragile co-existence between several widely varying umbrella races known as Humans, Seers, Shifters and Siren. Some are part of larger factions or families, others prefer going it alone. But for the purposes of the board, all our murderous and mysterious denizens call Bournemouth - the sea-side town of tourists, entertainment and art - their home. For the time being at least.

The Endless Ones said:
"Let There Be Life"

And, apparently, never stopped to think everyone might need a closer eye kept on them.

. S O O T H S A Y E R S .
    Lifespan.
Flyers and Man are so entirely integrated that, when it comes down to genetics, there is very little to distinguish them. Dependent on blood lines and so on, they may live a half-decade longer on average, but they are vulnerable to many of the same illnesses as man. It is their higher brain function that distinguishes them, unfortunately that doesn't do much for longevity.

    Appearance
Though they are the closest to humans now, their blood incredibly diluted through the passage of time, Seers are actually the most recognizable of the other races. Ethereal in appearance, they have distinctively angular features and more often than not look underweight for their height - were they shallow creatures, they would not look out of place on the catwalk.

They tend to be fair haired, or at least naturally pale skinned.

    Habitats.
At one time they were free to travel as they saw fit, all the world was open to them. Understandably, now that they are Earth bound they take any opportunity to move and it is common for their kind to move regularly, be it miles or blocks; why do you think card reading and mediumship is so synonymous with Gypsies?

    Racial Traits.
When Flyers abandoned their wings to learn all they could from and about man, they so sorely missed the wide ranging sights from the air, so much so that, over time, they began to see further in different ways. All the 'Arcane' arts are accessible to them, though a particular skill might not necessarily be past on in a breeding; each Seer manifests his or her abilities uniquely.

    Weaknesses.
True enough this majestic race no longer commands the skies, but they are still susceptible to the weather, a day a touch too dry and they are short of breath, the gust too strong and they might find themselves mailable and weakened. Changes affect no two alike, and they are not necessarily as noticeable in some than others, but no Seer can evade it entirely.

    Becoming.
Soothsayers stand apart from the other races in that there is no way for them to 'infect' another creature/human. Seer blood has to have always been there, but, depending on how dilute it is, there are certain triggers like physical or emotional trauma, hypnosis and even regressive therapies that can heighten it. It is also possible for Seers to be reincarnated, regaining past life abilities though often in a weakened state.

    Abilities.
Telepathy. Telekinesis. History Perception. Aura Reading. Suggestion. Energy Healing. Communing With Air Creatures. Astral Projection. Scrying. Inducing Lucid Dreams. Mind Control. Seeing The Dead. Cloud Influence. Hypnosis. Levitation. Stargazing. Picking Up Dead Memories. Heightened IQ. Photographic Memory. Immunity to mind control.

. S I L E N T S U R V E Y O R S .
    Lifespan.
It is very typical of the Beasts to live healthily, they indulge in holistic therapies and enjoy rounded diets. All of that has very little to do with their lengthy lives. Anywhere between two and three times longer than a humans, some Asian breeds have even been known to live for half a millennium. Shifters also have their own half-answer to the fountain of youth; their version of puberty! Up until they reach the point of being 18-21 they grow as normal, gestation period is the same as Man's too, after that they can go for years before they start looking any older.

    Appearance.
Beasts are more Earth than Man and their connection with Nature has not been lost. So attune are they that Smell and Touch have become more useful than their sense of Sight; thusly, as this feature is mostly useless to them, Shifters tend to have small or squinted eyes and broader jaws. They are well bred with Man though, and these specific characteristics might not always be present.
The Beasts are known to be dark featured, freckled and often with auburn or brunette hair and athletic body types.

    Habitats.
With a preference for woodland and forestry, most Shifters live in rural areas or - if forced into Man's world, they are drawn to parks and gardens. They are likely to take roots and family units rarely break very far apart.

    Racial Traits.
Most obvious amidst shifters is their ability to change form. Wolves and Big Cats are common, as are Bears and Equines, there are some who take mixed forms but these are rare, so too are those that can take Serpentine, Plant and Rock shapes. Note: Not ALL shifters can shift! It is not unheard of for this to be completely absent to be replaced by stronger abilities in other areas.

Knowing Nature so well, and being deeply connected with the Earth element, Shifters read vibrations very well and pick up on the mildest of signals - depending on Blood, it can be a very difficult task to pull the wool over their eyes.

    Weaknesses
Like all the creatures that walk the land, the Beasts were brought to being by the Flame, the spark of life given to Man and Animal by the Endless. This Flame is their making, and their undoing as damage made by fire is the hardest for them to regenerate from and the most painful.

Being so closely united with Nature also has its drawbacks, Man's pollutants and noxious materials can be immediately lethal if administered in the right way, a well aimed bullet of purified metal for example...

    Becoming.
Shifters are exactly where werewolf myths come from and it is true that their bite can 'turn' an individual. The difference between real life and the media, is that a person needs to die and to certain extent decompose on or under a natural ground. In that way the residual dna of a Shifter and ley line energies meet with what is effectually an incarnation of Mother Nature.

    Of course, you can inherit shifter abilities from your parents but the results are tricky at best if you put a human and a shifter together. A shifter's womb can handle the constant drain from their little sapling, a human... not so much? {Worse still, a Shifter male's priority is his offspring where the mother is not also a 'Beast', it's happened before where she has begged and pleaded for a doctor and been denied because of the unwelcome attention it would ilicit.}

What it looks like when they go into a change is person to person specific. Sometimes it's a lot more like the movies than you'd think given how their beginnings are entirely different, but you'll find that often it will look like they break down and turn into dirt, collapsing then in the shape of their beast.

    Structure.
They won't always be canine in their shifted form and how a Clan or Family organizes itself will differ every time. There is usually one or two calling the shots though, and the pecking order falls into line behind them, with roles assigned as necessary - the modern world doesn't often have much call for these but Shifters are proud and hold onto old rites and ways of doing things.

Joining a Clan is invariably a difficult task. They're usually cousins or or second cousins or families that have been friends for generations, but if you go back far enough, all the Beasts descended from the same Sentinels. So, what we're trying to say is, it is not unheard of for a Spanish shifter who has never met any of an English clan, to make arrangements to come and contribute to numbers; there will be a probation period of sorts usually, but nothing too taxing.

For Rogues it is a very hard task and joining a clan almost never happens without a sponsor and, unless the one who turned you did so intentionally, Clans can get very aggressive towards the loners. They're animals, what're you going to do?

    Abilities.
Supernatural Strength, Speed, Sight or Hearing. Rapid Regeneration. Sixth Sense. Tremor Summoning. Camouflage. Energy Drawing From Leylines - or 'supercharging'. Talking With Plants. Talking Across Leylines. Calling. 'Turning'. Stone Joints. Plant Empathy. Exuding Natural Poison. Hibernation. Molecular Breakdown {becoming dirt, earth, sand, soil}. Affecting Solid Matter. Merging With Nature. Instinctual Awareness Of Plant Properties. Talking With Animals. Telepath Resistance. Causing Rapid Decomposition. Healing Touch - and energy transference. Electricity Resistance. Muscle Memory.

. SONG SINGERS .
    Lifespan.
Taking a census of the average Siren can be very difficult. Those which originate from the deepest of waters are more Sentinel than human, but rarely come to civilized land. The shallower the water, the more concentrated the blood, and then there are the parents to consider. 'Water-treaders' are mostly human, more like Flyers, and thus have a similar lifespan. The more potent the water element within them, the more ageless they are.

    Appearance.
Like the oceans they can be harsh or serene and those which are more Ocean than Blood have very strong and sometimes dramatic facial features. Their body types are diverse and both genders are victim to the will of the Moon, weight loss and gain is either very firmly kept in check or else allowed to do as it pleases.

    Habitats.
Sirens are very torn; they frown upon breeding with Man but the Tides which were so long ago awash with Man's blood flows through them, the Sea Watchers find they are as much drawn to sky scrapers and wal-marts as they are to boat houses and under water caverns.

    Racial Traits.
You can predict nothing about a Siren and their cards are always well guarded, not all of them are prone to mood swings but the majority do have a knack for making a scene. At the other end of the spectrum they are very good at getting where they need to be and you might not necessarily notice - and, like the myths they created and the lantern fish in the depths of the Sea, they are very, very skilled at luring what they want to them.

Some of their ilk possess a shifting quality also, which forces itself upon them as the moon waxes and they take either full or part form of a sea creature. Unlike an Earth-Born elemental, they cannot control this and it is imperative they get to water by dusk.

    Weaknesses.
There is very little that can phase a water baby thanks to them being as adaptable as their element. That said, we cannot forget their link to Man, and more specifically, his Blood. Sirens are somewhat vampiric in their nature; any time they withstand damage or exert their Element more than usual, their store needs to be replenished.

Similarly, a Siren cannot stay too long away from water as they will become severely parched and it goes without saying that they are sensitive to warmer climates.

    Becoming.
Sirens can share their genetic material but a bite or blood letting will only ever be enough to 'donate' temporary abilities. For a human to become a Siren is a long and drawn out process and Sirens, being as they are, are very particular about who joins their club. Unless you're born from a merging of Siren and Human, to become one involves having your blood nightly drained and exchanged with the Siren equivalent of venom until at least half the human's body is contaminated - to keep going beyond this point is hazardous to the victim as the balance is lost and the results unpredictable.

Some Sirens find it difficult to conceive - when they actually find a mate they can maintain an interest in for long enough - and it is possible for them to impregnate another creature with their spawn. The results are vastly varied.. and often terminal to the intended surrogate and their children.

    Abilities.
Hydro-Kinesis. Partial Shape-Shift. Breathing Underwater. Casting Glamor/Appearance Alteration. 'Creating' A Siren. Supernatural Speed. Luminance. Distance Communication. Mesmerization. Additional Sets Of Teeth. Poison Resistance. Webbed Feet. Molecular Breaking Down{becoming fluid}. Temperature Altering. Rain Summoning - in optimum conditions. Communicating With Water Creatures. Anesthetic Aura. Third Eyelid. Electricity Control -- not creation. Limited Forced Dehydration. Atmoportation.

. S I G H T L E S S . S O U L S .
    Lifespan.
As you can expect, human lifespans on LTBL are very much the same as they are in our own flesh and blood world. Not much to report. Sorry.

    Appearance
The most diverse in their appearance of all the bi-pedal sapiens roaming our world, you can't really pin down a specific look. Traits tend to be two arms, two legs, two ears and two eyes. We're digging the patterns.

    Habitats.
Yeah, we're just not going to waste your time.

    Racial Traits.
Now while for the most part human beings are pretty plain janes, it is possible among a handful of them to possess certain attributes that are out of the norm. Mostly these traits would have you confusing them with Seers as they tend to be linked; sensing ghosts, tarot card reading, lucid dreaming etc. Further to that there are even fewer of them who possess skill sets all their own, or a particular resilience against the effects of sentinel kind.

Humans are also well known, throughout the ages, for using tools to harness abilities they would not otherwise have. The occult is as rife today as it was way back when so don't think for a moment there's not a few out there that pose as much a threat to you as the others do.

    Weaknesses.
Given that they are not usually powerful in their own natural state, it's not hard to imagine that human beings are particularly vulnerable against the abilities of the other races. Seers have no issue at all in invading their minds and warping them without any kind of resistance -- this is, in one way a kindness, because at least the chance of lasting damage is lessened if they don't need to force their way in.

    Abilities.
Telepathy. History Perception. Astral Projection. Scrying. Seeing The Dead. Hypnosis. Star Reading. Picking Up Dead Memories. Mediumship. Sentinel Sensing. Witch Craft.
