Please, do come in. And I shouldn't worry too much about treading on the carpet; it's already steeped in sand, litter and entrails as it is.
L.T.B.L, if you had not already guessed, is a horror-fantasy board revolving around the fragile co-existence between several widely varying umbrella races known as Humans, Seers, Shifters and Siren. Some are part of larger factions or families, others prefer going it alone. But for the purposes of the board, all our murderous and mysterious denizens call Bournemouth - the sea-side town of tourists, entertainment and art - their home. For the time being at least.

THE BODY Loki: Let it never be said that your anal retentive attention to detail never yielded positive results! Bartleby: You can't be anal retentive if you don't have an anus. GENERAL APPEARANCE.A good listener, sometimes people can forget that Prudence is even in a room. It's how she gets the good scoops. Patient and still, she can sit in the same spot for hours barely moving if she's concentrated on something. If she's reading a paper, working on a story, or otherwise engrossed in something, she has an uncanny ability to hold her position, her movements either slow enough to be unnoticeable or normal enough to be dismissed. It's normally how she comes by her leads. However, while in typical conversation, or finding something she's excited about, Prudence can all but vibrate with energy. Her hands will often fly about in gestures while she attempts to explain something. FASHION PASSIONSomewhat of an eclectic dresser, Prudence has what may be called a business-hippy style. Though always neat and presentable, she has an affinity to certain prints or colors that tend to make themselves known in her wardrobe. Long dresses with flowy skirts, pants with some strange flowery printed top, these are all fashion choices that she would stand by. Unique would be one way to put it. And while many people in Bournemouth would never be caught dead wearing what she does, she also has the strange fortune of being able to pull it off. Somehow her outfits fit with her personality and therefore don't make her look like a train wreck.
Her hobby of beading also makes its mark on her outfits - she is almost never without some sort of big beaded creation that she has strung herself. Normally, these craft projects would be considered a mistake to let outside of a dark room, but she's proud of them and wears the long strands looped about her neck in a variety of styles. LEFT A MARKPrudence has pierced ears as well as a long scar across her elbow where she severely broke her arm as a teenager.
THE MIND Rufus: You masturbate more than anyone else on the planet. Jay: Shit, everyone knows that. Tell me something else. MAN WITHOUT SKINBeneath everything Prudence does, there is the conviction that everything has an answer, people are genuinely good (unless they're not) and Haagan Dazs makes the best vanilla ice cream.
Always sure of herself, Prudence has the kind of sunny view on life that make pessimists want to hide under a rock. In her eyes, all people are good and if they're mean, drunks, do bad things it's because they were ill-treated in their past and this is the only way left they have to express themselves. The attitude creeps out in much of what she does. She will not pass by a homeless person without giving them food or some change, she will always give her neighbor a cup of sugar, and she will never turn down people passing out fliers on the street. She'll even partake in phone surveys if they don't catch her during dinner.
Don't let that fool anyone into thinking she doesn't see the horrible things in life. She does that, too. After all, as a researcher for a news station, she sees what people can do to each other all the time. It's hard to imagine that anyone in her position wouldn't be cynical. All it's done for Prudence is root her feet to the ground. Yes, she knows that people will do bad things to each other and will harm them, but that doesn't mean that anyone should pass a stranger who needs help without stopping. Instead of growing a suspicious skin, she invested in self-defense lessons. As stated before, she may be an optimist, but she's not stupid.
Always observant, Prudence has managed to pick up a habit that has served her very well in her private and work environment. That is - the ability to know when a person needs some time and when it's best to stir things up. Most of the time, she knows that if she just sits there and listens to a person - really listens to them - they'll tell her everything she wants to know without her ever having to ask. And when it all happens that way, no one feels as if she's pried into their life. Some people need the proper question or comment given to them just to prove that she's still paying attention, but she is good a reading body language and can tell when to do so.
Much like a reporter, she's also quite stubborn. Once she's got her scent onto a story, she'll want to keep pursuing it till it's revealed itself to her. In some matters, it goes beyond the story and stays with her own desire for answers. Sometimes, long after she's been denied a piece, she'll continue to check in on those involved in order to find the outcomes and the reasons why. If she doesn't finish a story, she will work it over in her head for days, months, years until she finally comes to a conclusion that will satisfy her.
It's in this same vein that drives her throughout the day. While she is quite friendly and quick to greet others, one thing she simply will not tolerate is ignorance. It's certainly not bliss in her opinion and if she hears of anyone misspeaking about a subject that she knows the facts on, she will be sure to correct them. As politely as possible, of course. HOBBIES & QUIRKSBEADING: Prudence loves to make necklaces, bracelets, just about anything that has to do with beads. Unfortunately, she's not very good at it. She doesn't seem to think that, though, and proudly wears her creations all about town.
YOGA: For years, she has done yoga. It's made her quite flexible, though she's really more into it for the calming of the mind and spirit than the physical aspects. Though, that doesn't dissuade her, either.
FOR THE STRAYS: With a soft heart, Prudence doesn't like to think of starving stray cats out in the world. She has a habit of putting out a tin of cat food every night for any of them that may wander past so they won't go hungry.
PEN AND PAPER: Prudence is never without a trusty pad of paper and a pen. Whether it's in her back pocket or her purse, she will have it for emergencies. Sometimes she uses it to jot down a few thoughts or phrases that she hears, though her official story is that it's for the station. STRENGTHSBILINGUAL: Fluent in both English and French, Prudence feels comfortable talking in both. In fact, when she calls home, she speaks to her mother in French. Canadian French, that is. People from France would immediately be able to tell where she was from by her accent.
LISTENER: Prudence is a wonderful listener. She's one of those people who will sit down across the table from a person and let them spill out whatever it is they need to talk about without judgement or even saying anything else, if that's what the time calls for. Best of all, though, is that she's serious about what off the record means. Though she may be a researcher, she's certainly no gossip.
FRIENDLY: Do you know those people who are completely at home in a crowd, one on one, with just about anyone? Prudence is one of those people. She's extremely friendly and can find common ground to talk to just about anyone. She's not a judgemental person and isn't shy about walking up to people to strike up a conversation.
RANDOM KNOWLEDGE: Need something researched? Prudence is your gal. She's got library systems, Google searches and just about everything else having to do with fact checking down pat. What comes with that, though, is an extensive random inventory of knowledge that she has stored up in her brain from various stories that she's covered and researched. Always on hand for that strange tidbit that people can use for an icebreaker, she'll be the first to let people know that at least 100 people die from choking on pens, or that Heinz 52 didn't actually have 52 varieties of anything when they started. WEAKNESSESARACHNOPHOBIA: It doesn't matter the size of the spider, whether it is poisonous or a harmless house spider. If it has eight legs and many eyes, Prudence will shriek and attempt to get as far away from it as possible. Furniture, books, children may be strewn in the wake she will create in order to get away from them.
CURIOSITY: It didn't just kill the cat. The nose for a good story and curiosity to follow it trough is a familiar twinge for Prudence. It's not always in her best interest, though. It's gotten her into her fair share of arguments and bad places when she's stumbled onto a place or situations he shouldn't have been involved in. However, no matter how many times she gets herself in trouble, it's hard for her to ignore that little voice in the back of her head that says, "Go on, you have to see what that's all about."
STUBBORN: Much like her curiosity, her stubbornness is something that both puts Prudence ahead and behind. While some people find it easy to set certain things aside, Prudence will work them over in her head time after time until they've worn a familiar tread in her brain. It's part of what makes her good at her job, but it can also be annoying to be hounded for days to months about the same story because her curiosity hasn't been satiated and her stubbornness won't let it go.
OPTIMISM: Normally, optimism would be a strength. And it normally is for Prudence. However, there are bad things that go on in this world and though she does recognize that fact, she doesn't let that stop her from helping people. Sometimes those people don't really want help, they want to trick people out of money and harm them. Her need to help usually outweighs that fear and it puts her in some dangerous situations.
THE SOUL Metatron: For their insolence God decreed that neither Loki nor Bartleby would ever be allowed back into Paradise. Bethany: Were they sent to Hell? Metatron: Worse . . . Wisconsin . . . for the entire span of human history. Born in Canada, Prudence Pimms could have smacked her parents for giving her such an alliterative, silly name. That is, if she weren't too busy screaming over the fact that she'd just been pushed out of what she thought was her home and had been smacked on the bottom by a doctor. Plus, as a baby she really had no say over what her parents named her. Growing up in a household teeming with brothers and sisters, love and family, Prudence wanted for very little. Though her family was not very well off, they weren't exactly poor. They lived on a farm close to the border of Maine in Quebec. Most of what they needed they grew for themselves and what they couldn't grow they either went without or bought in town.
Her mother - a French speaking Canadian - and her father - and English speaking one - taught Prudence how to speak concurrently, so for the first few years of her life she would blabber to everyone in a strange mixture of French and English that made it so that most people could only understand half of what she was saying. Over time, she became bilingual, as opposed to only speaking in Franglish. Later on, her family would qualify her French to be the polite, quiet side of her, while her English was the excitable and loud personality. It never occurred to her to think that some may think it odd that different languages would bring out different personalities in a person.
She was always busy with chores and school and attempting not to trip over her six brothers and sisters. As the youngest middle child, she was quite acquainted with both being looked after and looking after someone younger. Though babied a bit more than her elder siblings due to her birth order, she also learned responsibility and was never allowed to feel sorry for herself or fly into a tantrum. There was simply too much work to be done.
Always curious, always creative, the young Prudence would explore all the boundaries of their farm and sometimes even beyond that. By the time she was twelve, she already had a band of ragged cats that would follow her, meowing in anticipation of food. She had taken to leaving out tins on the back porch for them. Curious and kind hearted, her family thought she would turn out to be a doctor or a vet, as she was always bringing in strays to treat or nurse back to health. However, that was never for Prudence. There was too much heart break in doctoring - too many people and animals that would never make it. The hurt would ultimately be the end of her.
When she was older, she was more daring. Never one to be the scardy-cat she would follow through on dares of her elder brothers and sisters. It was because of them that she broke her left arm. They dared her to climb as high as she could into the highest tree on their property. She did - only to tumble out of the branches. For months she was laid up in bed with mostly books to keep her company. It's where she learned to really love the written word. While she could explore all the boundaries of her world through wandering, in her mind she could travel tot he ends of the Earth and beyond. She could satisfy her curiosity about the mating habits of birds, of how to make seafaring knots, how to tell the difference between crocodiles and alligators and so much more.
From there it was really no swerving Prudence's course. Her deep desire for knowledge and to find out the truth of the matter was all that it really took for her to go down the journalistic path. In high school, she would write and edit for the three page newspaper they would put out every semester. Once she was accepted to a good college in Montreal, she worked for the newspapers there. Everywhere she went, she was well known as the woman to go to if you wanted your facts straight. Gently shifting from writing stories to checking them, it was widely known that she wouldn't let a story past her into the paper if even one reference was unverified. There would be no half-truths or guesses on her shift.
Her junior year, she moved from paper to television. The more fast paced and energetic medium suited her. It was her job to research stories, attempt to find the ones that were worth pursuing. She also became sort of a Nazi when it came time for spots to come to air. If she heard a fact that sounded hard to prove, she forced the reporters to give her proof.
After school, she couldn't find a supportive job in Montreal and so she moved to Gatineau. The stories were less exciting, but she still managed to do what she wanted to with enough to send back home to help with the farm. For a good many years, she worked her way up from lowly coffee fetcher to head research assistant. Her reputation preceded her and many knew her unwillingness to proceed with any sort of story with any sort of hackneyed story telling or factual basis. There would be no fear mongering and there would be no sensational stories for ratings sake. Perhaps that's why she never progressed beyond her assistants job.
At such an impasse, she was headhunted for Bournemouth's Station. For some reason they had heard about her reputation and thought that her unwillingness to report on unverified facts would fit right in with their unique situation and news stories. Their enticement for Prudence was the possibility of being head of research as well as possibly the scoop of a lifetime. And, even better than that, it would be all true. There is certainly more to these stories than meets the eye.

THE FLESH Metatron: See? I'm as anatomically impaired as a Ken doll. | QUOTE | Whenever Prudence was overwhelmed by a story, or by life, she always reminded herself that there were books. Libraries full of books, enough books to last her for more than two lifetimes. It was that thought that would calm her down and get her through her worst days. When things were really bad, she would think through all the chapters and plots of her favorite stories to get her through. They all had endings - good ones, bad ones, tears, laughter and a wide range of emotions - and so all that was in front of her would have an ending, too.
As she picked up the small dish that had been licked clean outside of Tobias Moore's door, Prudence set in the sink gently to wash later. If there was ever cleaning to be done, she would always elect to do it later rather than sooner. Life was too joyful to be spent in front of sinks and vacuum cleaners. There was many other things to find than dust bunnies. Of course, she wouldn't make Tobias wash out her charity dinners. In fact, should he attempt to do so, she'd scold him gently and then go about making another dish to set out. That was sort of the routine the two had found themselves in.
Prudence twirled her curly brown hair around a pencil and sticking it through to keep it off her neck as she made her way back up into the room she was staying in while she searched for her own place. In a town this small, she would have thought it would be easier to find an empty apartment to call her own. But, so far, they had either been uninhabitable in her eyes, or taken. That didn't mean she was about to give up the search. There was her perfect apartment out there: she was sure of it. She just had to keep searching.
It was all well and good, the station was keeping her plenty busy with searching for new stories and fact checking the ones that had already come in. It was almost impossible to think of some place to settle down other than here when she came home exhausted from searching. This must be why people settled down and got married. After a long day's work, you sat at a kitchen table with someone and talked about your day. Albeit the conversations she had with Tobias were awkward and filled with silences neither of them really knew how to fill properly, it was comforting to at least have a warm body sitting opposite the table with her.
All in all, her life in Bournemouth was different. And that was good, as far as she was concerned. She missed speaking in French more often, but that was something she could get her fill of when she called home and talked to her mother. While here, she kept feeling as if she were on the edge of a very big story. Something that went beyond land disputes and the occasional murder story. The sort of scoop that would change her life around and show that digging for the truth really was the only policy. |
