Welcome to Affections and Affectations
...and to Lindeboshire! The time is the last quarter of the 19th century, and the place is a fairly large English city by the name of Lindebo. The people here, like in most cities, come in all shapes and variations.

A letter, posted Thursday and arriving Friday, from Cecil Pritchard to his cousins, Gwyneth and Tamsin Pritchard.
Holdencourt-Road, Thursday April the –th My dear cousins,
I am overjoyed to announce that I shall be coming to Lindebo, and I shall be arriving on Saturday before noon! I do hope that I shall be able to see you at once, for it is my greatest wish to see my dear cousins again. I have not yet arranged for lodgings, as I am not familiar with the city, and so I must impose upon you for hospitality for the first few days.
I simply cannot wait to tell you all that has happened in our dear family! Why, as soon as you have heard what a dreadful gown Hannah wore to her last ball in London, you will be absolutely horrified! I know how you two keep up with fashion, you see, and so I have made an especial effort to keep an eye out for this sort of thing, so that I can tell you all about it. Our uncle Landis has got himself a phaeton, which I think so much better for him that that old gig he used to have. Unfortunately he did not take my advice on which kind of phaeton he ought to have, and thus he has got one of those ghastly American things, spider-hung. I told him he ought to have a high-flyer, but Mrs Landis said it wasn’t safe, can you imagine?
Needless to say it was very dull to stay at her house, for she was always chastising me for the hours I keep. I simply do not know how I managed to stay with them these six months! It is certainly beyond my comprehension—you know how I abhor a prude of any sort. I was so delighted when I thought up my scheme to visit you. I shall have the pleasure of your delightful company, without the detriment of any of hers!
I must say I do not remember anything of Lindebo from when I was there last, as I have not been since before my dear uncle, your father, passed from our care into that of the Almighty. I think I have not been there in ten years, I am anxious to see what has changed. I remember there was a very charming sort of little club on Cheltenham-street, but of course as you are both ladies, you will know nothing of the matter. Certainly we shall be able to go to dances together, and I am quite positive that I shall be able to find enough to occupy my hours, especially since I will be in the constant company of the two loveliest ladies in Lindebo. I shall be the envy of every man!
Well, time grows short and I must leave myself enough time to pack before the coach comes. I do so look forward to seeing you both!
Your favourite cousin,
Cecil Pritchard.
