The Telescope, Sweet's New Public Area

Hey guys, as discussed in the Sweet in Social Media thread we have changed this area of the forum to public status.

The idea is to give guests an idea of our community and how it works. Help us to promote the new public area and get more active members to make our community improve.

Yippee! It's here. Fantastic Lanny.

Lanny did an amazing job getting this section together.

She wrote up the summaries for each section--really fantastic work!

Thanks to Marie for the original idea, as well as the section's name, thanks to Steve for doing massive proofreading, and Jason as well, and thanks for everyone who contributed ideas in the Sweet in Social Media thread.

Lanny, HOW do we advertise/spread the word? I tried the links with Jeff today, with him offline and such, but we can only see that hidden forum while offline. In other words, what is the exact link we would post on social media sites?

I'll promote it on Tumblr and Twitter, as well as in my sig.

Well, hey! This sounds cool! Great idea... also, this is the first I've heard of it.

What do you mean you can only see it offline? The links work for anyone... if you are offline and then you log in you'll lose the link, it won't redirect you there, but if you click the link again you get the forum. At least I think so...

To advertise this new section you can advertise using the forum link (The Telescope on main) or the 'Getting Started' thread.

Ok, I found out what happened.

I had set the new forum with the descriptions to Guest, but forgot to edit 'The Telescope' for Guests too.

So now... ANY link should work as I fixed it.

Question, I enabled guests to read the forum but not to reply... do you think it's ok to have guests being able to reply? I'm afraid of what might come of this if we actually go ahead with it.

It's working now as Lanny posted, my usual bookmark http://z13.invisionfree.com/lanaclark/index.php?
will display the "Telescope" section when I'm logged out, in "Guest" mode. It doesn't display other sections though.

Looks like you all did an outstanding job with this section. Should get some incoming traffic soon.....

Lanny, that's a good question, allowing Guests to post. I guess time will tell about that one. My guess is that nearly all of the familiar instigators have moved on by now but there's always a remedy available at a nearby retail outlet to deter the 'net nuisances....

Lanny, I'd let them reply. Let's ere on the side of SWEET and deal with the offenders if they show up and make trouble. We can always change our mind if it gets too crazy.

Lanny, I think we should open commenting to guests, so that they can ask any questions.

Of course, guests are subject to the same rules as members, so anything inappropriate for our forum can be moderated.

Okay then, hopefully it won't backfire on us.

If it becomes a problem, we'll delete and close/disable that privilege.

I can't think of Lana and Clark and not think "Sweet" and that is the message we should send to those visiting for the first time and thinking about joining or forum. If you want 'sweet' join SWEET.
