Funny thing about the Town, you live here long enough, things start to change, in the way you see things. Can you tell the difference between this place and any other? Or maybe, more to the point, between heaven and hell?
I'm not sure I can anymore.
This place belongs to the Irish. But if the Italians and the Homeboys have anything to say about it, that won't be true for long. And all these honest (or less than honest), hard working (or less than hard working) Irish down here in the Narrows are gonna get pushed out in favor of new breeds. And I don't think that sits well with me. Watch your back, Out-of-Townie. And keep your piece loaded. You ain't safe here.
None of us are.
stats
It's currently March of 2011. It's snowing like a motherfucker.
25, second in command. Brian is Brady and Chevonne's only child, and he was given his position on that basis. He's a little more worldly than his father, with hopes of widespread expansion, but he falls to the same hot headed tendencies as both of his parents.
KILLIAN “KILLER” O'ROURKE
43, mob affiliate. Killer O'Rourke is Brady's younger brother. Much younger (a surprise, as it were), he has something of an inferiority complex coupled with the fabled O'Rourke foul temper. He isn't pleased that his baby nephew is second in command.
ROWAN MCNAB
25, mob affiliate. A young man with illusions of grandeur. Thinks better of himself than he ought to—to his own detriment, often. Not in good standing with the leaders.
FINTAN DOYLE
26, slaughterhouse worker, mob affiliate. One of a handful of members of An Teaglach who is an actual Irish immigrant—he's only lived here for a few years.
THE BLACK IRISH
LIAM “BILLY BOY” KEEGAN
34, trash man. In the metaphorical sense—he's a hit man. Billy Boy likes his hits to go off dirty. He has a fondness for... leaving a message.
RORY KEEGAN
29, mob affiliate. Billy Boy's quiet younger brother. He's quiet because some Homeboys cut out his tongue three years ago.
25, mechanic, mob affiliate. The only son of a once prominent member of the mob. Though intelligent, and showing potential to escape the town, he never went to college and ended up trapping himself.
ROGER BURNS
24, barkeeper, mob affiliate. Took over his father's bar (Mickey's Place) after he was killed. Large, slightly slow, and generally calm, he doesn't strike one as a mob boy, even if he is.
CIAN AHEARNE
27, tobacco shop owner, mob affiliate. Cian has been burly and tight lipped his whole life. He does as he's told and not a bit more, though he's good with secrets and would never sell out a fellow Irishman.
THE IRISH
CHEVONNE O'ROURKE
55, wife of Brady O'Rourke. Serves as something of a “mob mother.” Though she's not directly involved in crime, she offers a place to rest, a hot meal, and an ear to anyone in her husband's gang.
25, waitress, med student. Related to the mob through her now deceased grandfather, Charlotte is one of many thirsting to get away from the neighborhood. She's working her way through med school.
MORNA O'ROURKE
39, wife of Killer O'Rourke. Where Chevonne is happily married to Brady, Morna is more of a trophy wife. She doesn't care overly much for her mobster husband, and is often unfaithful.
TOAL "SOAP" MCNAB
22, hospital janitor, younger brother of Rowan McNab. Toal wants nothing to do with the mob and is content with his low level job at the hospital—but, like anyone else from a mob family, he has trouble distancing himself completely. Called Soap not because he's a janitor, but because he likes to keep his hands, metaphorically, clean.
NORENE ORMAN
26, singer, romance of Brian O'Rourke. She's something of a femme fatale, but she does love Brian.
FATHER DONALD FLYNN
49, priest. Father Flynn is the main priest at the church of St. Dismas--he's the confessor to just about every gangster with a conscience in this town. He has a little bit on his plate.
THE SICILIANS
"DON" VITO ABANDONATO
68, Head of the local Cosa Nostra.. Vito is mistrustful and paranoid, but not without reason. Unable to say no to his daughter's request to marry a member of the DiNapoli family, an uneasy melding of the Abandonatos and the Dinapoli's has come to pass within his lifetime—something he said would never, ever happen.
ALDO ABANDONATO
55, brother of Vito, Santoro family bookkeeper. Quiet and not particularly ruthless, Aldo poses no obvious threat to anyone. He isn't in line to take over the family, but were he given the chance to sieze it, he probably would.
EUGENE “GENE” ABANDONATO
35, lawyer. Vito Santoro's eldest son, dedicated to remaining unaffiliated with his father's criminal dealings, though it's proving a difficult prospect. He has ended up being press ganged into being the family lawyer.
ORLANDO ABANDONATO
27, mafia affiliate. Highly enthusiastic and entirely over zealous, Orlando wants to pick up any and all slack that Gene leaves behind, and become the golden son in Vito's eyes.
EZIO COLOMBERA
24, mafia affiliate. Ezio is the youngest affiliate of the Abandonato crime family. He's hot headed and thirsty for more responsibility than he's currently given. If Luigiano were to stage a coup, Ezio would follow.
THE NAPOLITANOS
LUIGINO ROVIGATTI
59, widower, second in command to the Abandonato crime family, thanks to his position as Vito's in-law. His son married Vito's daughter, and he was awarded a position on that basis.Outwardly loyal, he disdains Vito's running of the family.
SANTINO “LUCKY” INNOCENTI
30, hit man. A son of no good standing, worked his way up from nothing to become the main trashman for Vito—he does the dirty work, and not much else. He's technically a DiNapoli, but he's a bastard, and his blood is in question.
NAZZARINO DINAPOLI
56, mafia affiliate. Nazzarino is a DiNapoli in name, but is nowhere near the standard set by the Rovigatti's (DiNapoli's only on their mothers side). He means well, and has his talents, but comes across as inneffectual. His daughter, Felicity, causes him no end of headaches.
34, restauranteur, mafia affiliate. Cesarino owns Mercury's, a popular, upscale Italian restaurant in the Peak.
EUSEBIO ROVIGATTI
25, mafia affiliate. Eusebio is Luigino's son, and husband of Vito Abandonato's daughter
THE ITALIANS
BERNARD "THE BUTCHER" BARBIERI
45, butcher and mafia affiliate. Berny Barbieri got his nickname thanks to both his honest occupation and a proclivity for violence.
FELICITY DINAPOLI
24, socialite. Daughter of Nazzarino DiNapoli and his pirde and joy. She's spoiled rotten, and something of a hood rat in her own right, even if she does live in the Peak.
ETTORE FARINA
26, small time mob affiliate. Ettore wants one thing desperately—to be a member of the Abandonato family.
BERNARDETTA ABANDONATO
56, wife of Vito. A strong willed woman with a short temper and almost no patience, Bernadetta tells Vito exactly what she thinks of him on a regular basis. If people didn't know that Bernadetta is quite willing to eviscerate just about anyone, they'd think him whipped.
NICOLA ROVIGATTI
25, wife of Eusebio Rovigatti. It was because of Nicola's stubbornness that the Abandonato and DiNapoli families became connected as they are.
25, gang leader. An intelligent and motivated up and comer who hopes to both advance his burgeoning music career and keep the Homeboys out from under the thumb of the Italians.
ANDRE FREEMAN
25, second in command. Andre is Mario's best friend, and has been since the two were in diapers. Hard working—one of the only reasons that the gang is what it is today.
DRAKE ROBIN
24, gang member. Jealous and quick to violence, Drake is something of a mad dog. He doesn't clean up Mario's messes so much as he makes them.
MICHAEL “MIKEY” SMITH
20, drug dealer. Mikey, though, twenty, is mentally very young. Though impassioned, he's juvenile, and has a tendency to throw fits when things don't go his way.
DAVID “TANK” ANDERS
30, pimp. The oldest of the Homeboys far, Tank is physically huge, one of the more imposing members. Outside of mandatory gangland violence, though, Tank is a fairly gentle, cool-headed person.
THE GANGSTERS
JAY LESLIE
18, drug dealer. Jay got dragged into gang activities at about fifteen, and he's starting to regret it now—he's on his way out of high school with promising sports scholarships looming in his future. Of course, it's entirely possible that something could go wrong, and he wouldn't be able to finish school.
GERMANE BANK
23, bouncer, gang affiliate. Germane is a thinker. He shares Mario's hope for a better future for the neighborhood, but he doesn't approve of Mario in general. He doesn't currently do business with theHomeboys. He's considered an outsider, though, as he moved to the Town with his mother from the Bronx.
JEFFERSON MARCUS
24, bartender, gang affiliate. Jefferson is the older of the Marcus twins by a margin of thirty minutes, and that makes all the difference in the world to him. He comes across as superior and a little bit condescending.
NICHOLAS “NICK” MARCUS
24, gang affiliate. Nick is quiet to the point of nearly perpetual silence. This gives him the appearance of low intelligence, but he's much more observant than he seems.
SEAN GREENE
19, gang affiliate. Sean doesn't really want anything to do with any of this gangland stuff—if he could get out, he would. But that hasn't proved possible so far.
COPS
CAPTAIN CELSO GATTI
45, police captain. Celso managed to work his way up to police captain thanks to his ties with prominent Italian mob affiliates.
LIEUTENANT RICHARD HANNITY
33, police lieutenant. Though never a member of the Clan, Richard is friends with many, and tends to look the other way when Irish in the neighborhood do crime.
OFFICER ALEXANDER MELONI
28, police officer. A hot headed Italian, quick ti draw his gun, Alex Meloni is something of a loose canon--not to mention easy to bribe.
OFFICER SAMUEL ABRAHMS
25, police officer. A bright eyed young cop, Sam hasn't been in the precinct long enough to get cynical.
OFFICER DONALD PRINCE
27, narcotics officer. A transfer from out of town, Donald has the whole world against him—he's not only a cop, but a narc, and he's not a townie. Not even his fellow police officers truly trust him.
42, district attorney. A ruthless (and rather crooked) district attorney, James has craved power his whole life and will do anything to keep himself at the top. Dirty money flows freely around him.
JUDGE LORETTA O'SHEA
47, judge. Loretta was not born to an Irish mob family, but rather one of higher repute—most of her family are politicians in some way or another. She got her position, too, without the help of mob ties, and she's damn proud of that fact.
GAVIN WALSH
35, defense attorney. Alex was born to the mob, not only Irish but Black Irish. He has a soft spot for Irish mobsters as a result, and often steps in in their defense.
DAVID SCHNECK
37, prosecutor. David is a Jew who grew up as a tortured minority in the Town. He has no love for either side of this mob war, and is happy to rip them to shreds at every turn.
SUSAN BOSCO
33, defense attorney. Susan is half-Italian, but rarely comes to the defense of other Italians unless the money is right. Her father raised her to be a “mercenary”—she does what she has to do to feed herself. She has little to no interest in the mob.
TOWNIES
EVAN HENDRICKS
24, drug dealer. Not Irish, Black, or Italian, Evan's is a name that is none the less fairly well known in criminal circles—he's a fairly notorious drug dealer. He is sympathetic more to the Irish than anything else, but it's to the Homeboys that he pays dues, so he can keep on the streets.
DANIAL SAAB
18, high school drop out, vandal. Danial is an infamous graffiti artist and drug addict living in the Narrows.
DR. PATRICIA HADLEY
45, ER doctor. Dr. Hadley comes from a family of doctors, though she grows disillusioned with the profession as a whole after all her years of working with the gangsters that come in day to day. In her eyes, there's something a little less noble in healing someone when you know that a.) their hurt is their fault, and b.) they're going to go back out and hurt more people.
ROSARIO WEGNER
25, bar tender. Rosario grew up in the Peak, but hard times fell on her family and they relocated to the border of the Rushes and the Narrows. She works in the Narrows now, in an Irish pub, and very unhappily.
MARINETTE OGDEN
27, bodega owner. Marinette dragged herself up from next to nothing, managing to scrape together enough to open up her own business. After watching her brothers get sucked into the Homeboys, then killed, she has no patience for gangsters.
OUT-OF-TOWNIES
PAUL FEHER
26, dock worker. Paul moved to the Town six years ago and is still considered an unwanted outsider.
TERRENCE GLOVER
29, mechanic. Terrence moved to the Town four years ago to take care of a now deceased relation. He works at Jake's auto repair..
DEREK LANDAU
26, sandwich shop worker. Unaffiliated personally, Derek comes from a family of career criminals, and often hears things that others don't.
DR. GABRIEL LANG
39, doctor at St. Dismas's. Dr. Lang came to the Town just so he could work at St. Dismas's hospital. He's disliked because of his position as an Out-of-Townie, but he doesn't particularly care. Beneath his bedside manner lies a rather caustic disposition.
ARIADNE SAVAGE
23. flower shop employee. Ariadne took a gap year between high school and college that turned into two, now three. She came to the Town for a change of pace and stuck here, though the town as a whole isn't exactly to her taste.
