I think the BBC's response to this leaves a lot to be desired and their journalistic ethics on the day were extremely poor. However, isn't it fairly obvious this was a mistake? Rumour had got round that the building was unstable and about to collapse and the BBC, either through shoddy fact checking or sensationalism reported this as 'had collapsed'. I hate the incompetence excuse that is so regularly trotted out as explanation of 911 and 77 but in this case I'm struggling to see what other interpretation there could be. Why would the conspirators release the information to the worlds news media before they did their secret controlled demolition? This is definetly something worth pursuing, if not just to make the MSM squirm as much as possible about how disgraceful their reporting has been, but I think people are getting carried away as to how significant it might be.
In a related note which is of interest here, BBC World was (I’m reasonably sure) being run by a woman called Dame Pauline Neville-Jones in 2001. BBC World is also not funded by the British state, which many people won’t know, but is funded by corporate donations and other “sponsors.”
Anyhow, Dame Pauline once headed the Joint Intelligence Committee in the UK, a body which brings together the heads of the various British intelligence bodies with political leaders. She went from intelligence, to running the BBC World Service (radio) from which BBC World was spun off in 1995.
Since leaving the BBC World Service, she has taken up a role on the board of QinetiQ(a corporation spun off from the UK defense establishment, from the privatization of which the Carlyle Group recently made a killing). She is also on the advisory board of the Intelligence Summit – where she joins Richard Perle, Kenneth Timmerman, Alrezi Jafarzadeh (the source of the U.S. “intelligence” on Iranian nuclear weapons programs).
I thought that might be of interest, but as for any broader implications, I have nothing to add.
A follow up post was made by Tony Gosling, who hosts these two articles relating to Pauline Neville-Jones's involvement in the ousting of the BBC's popular Director General Greg Dyke, following the David Kelly/Andrew Gilligan 'business' of the false "45 minute Iraqi WMD claim":
He's eyeing up £250K job with arms trade link firm.
Tony Blair is expected to join one of the most exclusive groups of businessmen in the world after he leaves Downing Street.
The PM is being lined up for a highly lucrative position with the Carlyle Group - an American-based investment giant with strong links to the White House and the defense industry.
The firm has been nicknamed "The Ex-Presidents Club" because it has had a host of former world leaders on its books including George Bush Senior, his former secretary of state James Baker and former British PM John Major. There a also a large number of former US Army top brass.

For services rendered no doubt.
Don't forget his Congressional Medal of Honour for services rendered to the annihilation of working class peasant-types all over the world! Remember also that the Carlyle Group owns around 30% of Qinetiq - the commerical, private, arm of what was once the UK's Defence Establishment Research Agency, thereby leaving the Bush family and their potential future employees with well-vested interests in the UK defence industry.
