gracie loved to create things. she was very much the definition of a hands-on person when it came to working and she operated best when left to her own devices and imagination. it was probably the reason why she was so well-suited to her job: as a stylist, she had the opportunity to make people up and create fashions and styles from their closets. she got to make their make up as bold and colorful as she desired and make their clothes as flattering or silly as she pleased. naturally, though, gracie sought (and was good at) making people appear to be at their fullest potential. she got joy out of making other people feel good and happy and comfortable in their skin, even if she wasn't completely comfortable in her own all of the time.

obviously, then, when she had gotten the idea to create a cape for atlas in order to suit his adventures in order to save the world, she hadn't wasted much time in getting started. much to her pleasure, it had turned out just as she had wanted it to: blue with gray and silver trim, his secret alias sewn on the bottom in silver script. she had even sewn a pocket and button on the inside of the cape, for she was sure that superheroes always had something that they needed to carry with them. she had also taken the time to make him a mask, and of course, a matching costume for daisy. daisy hadn't taken kindly to wearing anything on her head, though, so gracie had allowed her to be exempt from that part of the outfit. gracie was currently waiting for atlas to arrive at the park they had arranged to meet at, his cape and mask hidden in a plastic bag in her lap.

atty was easily one of her best friends. time they spent together was always easy and fun, and it was rare for them to not have anything to do or be bored of the other. they had all kinds of extraordinary adventures that would probably be deemed ordinary to anyone else, but when they were together, nothing was exactly ever as it seemed. there could be an alien hiding in that tree, that teddy bear could be alive--there was a world to save!--and so nothing was ever simply as it was, yet it was all very simple and fun and very happy. they knew everything about the other; atlas even knew about jake. their friendship was comfortable and worn in, filled with fun and laughter and understanding, and gracie wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

her eyes scanned the surrounding area before a small smile lit up gracie's face. atty wasn't here yet. she stood, opened the bag, and pulled out the cape first. she draped it around her shoulders, tied it in the front, and then retrieved the mask and stuffed the plastic bag into the pocket. the cape was a little long and the outfit matched her hair color probably a little too perfectly; gracie laughed at the coincidence. she had the idea that she was going to surprise him.

she approached the nearest tree and started to climb. gracie sat on the first thick branch and let her legs dangle down towards the ground; she wasn't completely out of sight. she had a pretty full view of the park from the tree, and she still couldn't spot atlas. her legs idly kicked back and forth as her eyes stayed alert and then--there he was, and gracie gave a broad grin and a quiet giggle. she pulled her feet up to rest on the branch and positioned herself so that she was leaning against the tree's trunk. gracie watched him for a moment longer, still laughing quietly at her grand scheme, before she reached out and grabbed a smaller branch in front of her.

with a gentle shake, the crisp leaves rattled against each other before several fell to the ground. "pssst!" she whispered at atlas, sustaining a giggle. "atlas! atlas west! this tree would like your attention!" gracie had weakly disguised her voice. "this tree would like to speak with you!" she gave the branch another rattle and kept her brown eyes focused on him. her eyes mirrored the grin on her lips and told of all the laughter she was not giving sound to. eagerly, she waited.

Atlas wasn’t one to take things for granted. Whatever opportunity that happened to land upon his doorstep or cross his path, he was the type to take it if he knew it would help him or other people in the end. His parents weren’t completely keen on him up and leaving to go spend time selling shoes on a tour, but in the grand scheme of things he was at least working towards making the world a better place since it was a charity organization he was a part of and making the world a better place somehow was one of the number one things on his to do list. It wasn’t number one on his parent’s list, but there wasn’t much they could do now that he was an adult and making his own decisions for better or for worse. He believed this one was for the better, since it took him all around the states and helped him make all sorts of new friends - most importantly Gracie. She was one of the best friends he’d made on the tour and he couldn’t help but feel completely comfortable around her. Hell, he even let her call him Atty, something he never usually went by. They spent lots of their time together and went on all sorts of adventures never tiring or getting bored of the other’s company. They shared their secrets with each other and life was always different and exciting with her around. Life was an adventure with her, and that’s just the way he liked it.

It was so much of an adventure that somehow he’d ended up with a superhero persona, which was pretty neat. He thought of that as a step in the right direction towards saving the world and all. He was even going to get a neat cape! Made by Gracie, of course, so he knew it would be perfect. Obviously he needed a superhero ensemble to complete the look, but the cape was the most important part of it all. He’d be like captain planet or something, except way cooler. He was excited to see it and try it on and assume his role as superhero. He hadn’t settled on a name yet, but he and Gracie had come up with a few ideas like ‘the amazing atlas’ or ‘the terrific teddy bear,’ since he went by both Atlas and Theodore, it would throw people off completely and make his secret identity easier kept a secret. That and he’d probably style his hair differently or maybe he’d invest in a mask too. That would definitely help. Atlas was definitely excited to see what she had made in her spare time in between styling her band and hanging out with him. To be honest they spent so much time together it was a wonder she could even get it done. But there was no doubt she was just super talented at balancing her time. He could learn from that, for sure.

The walk to the park was nice, as he found himself smiling inwardly at the thought of his superhero career taking off and how he would look wearing a cape. Sure it wasn’t the complete outfit and he’d have to figure that out, but that was for another day. He was dressed for a day in the park, ready to have adventures with Gracie. Jeans and a regular button up top got the job done. The park was surprisingly quiet today, he noted as he finally made it. Atlas wasn’t late, but he was sure Gracie beat him here since he got a little hung up manning the merchandise tent and lost track of time - not terrible but hardly punctual. But footsteps on winding hardly marked paths of dirt and worn down grass found their way to their agreed meeting place. As he neared where they had said to meet and there was no sign of his blue-haired friend he couldn’t help but frown a little. Where could she be? Did she get hung up at work somehow? Was he the early one for once? Or was he just so late that she’d left and he’d be getting an earful later on about how he would never get his super cool cape and his superhero career would be over before it ever began. Ah well, he’d make it up to her somehow if that were the case. Shoving hands in to the pockets of his jeans he stood beneath the tree they’d agreed to meet at, leaning against the trunk for a moment as he pulled out his phone to check the time once again failing to hear the giggles that were taking place directly over his head.

As the branches shook above him, he knotted his eyebrows for a moment before stepping away from the trunk, dark eyes going up to the branches as a hand went to shield from the light shining through the crisp leaves. It took him a moment, but his eyes found Gracie sitting up in the tree shaking the branch with the cutest smile on her face. “Oh? Well Misses Tree, what would you like to speak with me about? Could it be about the girl hiding in your branches?” He said with a smile, laughing a little as he spoke at her attempt at disguising her voice. “You should tell her she better watch out since I’m going to come up there soon!” He said as he took another step back in attempt to shield the sun a little bit more, “I am an expert tree climber you know!”

there was something about atlas. there was something more about him, and it probably was in the fact that he believed. he wasn't just the kind of person who politely put up with gracie's playful persona and smiled and nodded and entertained her for an hour and then walked away and went back to his serious life. no, the thing about atlas was that he believed in imagination and fun as much as gracie did, and it was probably why they were so compatible together. their fun wasn't just something they walked away from; it was something that they continued. it was something that they lived for, and gracie appreciated that about atty. gracie appreciated that a lot. they were like the dynamic duo, the successful lost children of neverland. in their early twenties, and yet never grown up. never planning on it, either, as far as gracie could tell. she liked it that way. she didn't mind being fun and colorful.

and she was genuinely glad that she had a friend who didn't mind it, either. atlas was a superhero, off to save the whole world, and she was gracie, a...well, she wasn't certain what she was at the moment. she was just an imagineer. together, they were spectacular. the only thing that would make their situation any more spectacular would be atlas's costume. clearly, it would only make everything even more better, be the missing puzzle piece to plenty of unknown and wonderful adventures into the unknown. true, it wasn't equivalent to superhero flying technology, but it was darn close--and it looked even better, because gracie didn't design anything without knowing that it wouldn't flatter the wearer. it was fact that atlas was going to look like a real superhero. he was one.

he even looked like one as he walked into the park, gracie decided. he had a confident sort of stride and a curious kind of way of looking about the world. he took everything in. gracie thought that every superhero did that; every superhero had to be observant about their surroundings. otherwise, how would they know if there happened to be a bad guy lurking in the midst?--behind that tree? under that park bench? in the trees? gracie giggled at that thought. she was in a tree, and she was certainly no villain! and there was certainly no one in this tree with her, but she looked up into the branches, just in case. a branch twitched, and a bird peered down at her...but other than that, the coast seemed to be clear.

atlas was looking up into the tree now, a hand placed over his eyes to shade them from the sun. her lips broke into a broad grin. "oh? well misses tree, what would you like to speak with me about? could it be about the girl hiding in your branches?" he was smiling, too, and gracie stiffled a laugh. "you should tell her she better watch out since i'm going to come up there soon! i am an expert tree climber you know!" she hadn't, actually, and gracie's mind got stuck in a rut for a moment as she tried to think. there were no bad guys in the tree, but maybe that's because the bad guy was the tree...

gracie wiggled off her shoes and let them plunge to the ground below, squeaking as each of them hit the grass. "help us, atlas!" gracie whispered. "we're gracie's shoes! the tree will eat her alive! ahhhhh! save gracie!" she couldn't refrain from laughter at that. gracie rattled the tree branches again, and several more leaves fell to the browning earth, before she disguised her voice again as the tree's own. "you will never get gracie back alive! mwahahaha!" the branches rattled again, fiercer this time. gracie stood so her back was parallel to the tree trunk and bounced on the balls of her feet; the branch below swayed.

she sat back down again on the branch and looped her arms around it before she pushed herself off of her hiding spot. gracie dangled from the branch from her arms and swung herself back and forth, beaming down at atlas. "never fear, the terrific gracie is here!" she laughed, and her fingers began to slip from around the bark, so gracie released the tree and jumped to the ground, just barely landing on her feet. "ta-da!" she stood back up, her hands outstretched to the sky, and pushed up the mask that was over her eyes just slightly. "not so bad for a superhero in training, huh?" with a grin, gracie placed her fists on her hips and held the pose for a moment--before she broke down into laughter.

"hi, atty!" she called in greeting (even though he wasn't very far away, but there was seldom a time when gracie was quiet). gracie spun in a circle and held the corners of his cape in her hands. "so tell me! what do you think of your new superhero attire? yay or nay? it matches my hair! would you like to try it on?"
