HARRY REDKNAPP is eyeing a £5million swoop for Bordeaux hitman Marouane Chamakh.

SunSport understands that the Tottenham boss has targeted the French ace who plays as a support striker.

Redknapp has been tracking Chamakh, 24, for a while and expressed his interest in January. But Bordeaux decided not to cash in on one of their prized assets.

North London rivals Arsenal have also watched Chamakh, who wants a move to England.

Redknapp looks certain to offload £16.5m flop Darren Bent this summer — while Roman Pavlyuchenko could also be on his way.

The Spurs chief has also identified Juventus ace Vincenzo Iaquinta as an alternative if he misses out on Chamakh.

Italy striker Iaquinta, 29, will be available for around £8m although he is reluctant to make a move.

He's Indian if I'm not mistaken.

Could be worth the sigining just for marketing reasons.

BORDEAUX striker Marouane Chamakh has put the Premier League’s big guns on red alert by admitting he wants to play in England.

The Moroccan has notched 10 goals for the club so far this season, who currently lie second in Ligue 1 – two points behind Marseille.

And although the 25-year-old has set his sights on winning the French title this season, he is ready to test himself in a stronger league.

Chamakh said: “My contract ends in one year and I’d like to leave with a French championship title with Bordeaux. If I leave it’ll be abroad or nothing.

“Before talking to the interested clubs, I first want to talk with Bordeaux. It’s my team and where I was trained so that’s normal.

“I am going to give the priority to England. That’s the league I appreciate the most.

“Even if I would give everything to play for teams such as Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, I don’t dream. I am not crazy.

“If I manage to join a team like these ones, it would be a miracle.

“I am not greedy but I rather aim for a club which sits just below the ’big four’.

“To be clear, a team like Tottenham could interest me but not Sunderland.”

Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool and Newcastle have been linked with Chamakh over the past few months.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confessed that Bordeuax forward Marouane Chamakh is one of the players who has caught his eye this season.

The Gunners have been linked with the aerially adept Moroccan international since several months already, but Wenger downplayed reports that a move is already in the works.

"He is a very good player, but that doesn't mean I have contacted him," Wenger told L'Equipe when questioned about the 25-year-old.

Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have also been linked with Chamakh, whose cracking winner on the weekend ensured that their title fight with Olympique Marseille will go down to the last day.

The 50-time capped Morocco international, who has scored 15 goals for his country, has already made his interest in moving to the Premier League known and recently revealed in an exclusive interview with goal.com that he will definitely leave Bordeaux should they win the title.
