The first player is short, well on regular level, done that in 6 hours 45 I think. Done it again on veteran level recently, took me 13 hours -ish.
Also, I think what makes this better than COD4 is the Special Ops side of it. Plus I can't see me ever getting all those stars so it should keep my interest for a while!

name some? the multiplayer is far better now far faster and smoother, only prob i have is the respawns

Yeah I like the Special Ops too, the reason I loved COD4 and now MW2 so much is the lifespan and enjoyment of it is almost never ending.

Half life, Half Life 2, Portal, Bioshock, Deus Ex, System Shock 2, FarCry, Crysis, Gears of War, Soldier of Fortune, even some earlier CoD games are better.

And the others? All better, more absorbing storylines.
Some of them, (Half Life and Deus Ex inparticular) I would rank among the best games ever.

Obviously I am just one but I always buy a game to play the single player mode (depending what it is) first. Local multiplayer second and then online play is my last thought.
