It's funny, I was watching Sunday Supplement earlier and the lead bloke asked about the possibility of us signing PV in January. The journalists were unanimous in saying we don't need him and were singing Diaby's praises calling him fantastic and brilliant ability and all sorts.

Guess it shows differing perceptions outside the club shrug.gif

It shows they are all on crack.

There is that...

I think Diaby has improved noticeably from last year -- though the improvement started, in fits and jerks, in the second half of last season. He's improved in quiet ways, doing the little, standard things better. (Not to say that he doesn't need to improve still more.)

I think that what obscures this is, ironically, high expectations for him -- too high. Good Diaby, like against Chelsea in the CC a few years back, is so good, that Simply-Good-Enough Diaby doesn't get the credit he deserves.

The fact that he's put in a run of competent though not great performances is fantastic news, imo, since it was those swings between ridiculous and sublime that were so frustrating before. We don't need Fantastic-Good Diaby, since we've got Cesc, Arshavin, RVP, Nasrisky, etc. We just need Solid-Good Diaby.

Seems to me that people misjudged and underrated Denilson last season for something similar, missing all of the quietly competent stuff he was doing.

Not sure how much he's improved really, he's just lucky to be playing in a vastly improved team.

the reason,Wenger keep playing Diaby instead of Rocicky, Nasri or ramsey, is to encrease the height og the team, in set pcs, or corners, the same apply for Bentner instead of Eduardo, Nasri or vela.
its really worrying, coz we are going to play Chelsea(tall men ) in the end of the month and they score only in dead balls.
though im happy we dont play hull til Dec. popcorn.gif

Bang on the money, Jens - although I would alter your comment about fans expecting too much from him to fans expecting too much generally, and particularly from the position he plays in.

I'll say it again. He is not a matchwinner like Vieira, and the overall individual package may be less top-trumps wise than some of our other more celebrated players, but the way in which the team plays, and the stats when he has been playing this season say it all for me.

By way of a belated response to Bignev, I've stoppoed trying to scrutinise the guy, TBH. I agree that he doesn't look great at times. But he somehow seems to fit the way this team plays.

The truth is that posters on here seem to need someone to vent their spleen on. What independent outside football journalists think (and he has been getting praise this season), doesn't count for anything one the target has been selected.

Which he is clearly not. For the two or three great matches he had this season, he has has 8 or 9 bad matches and with bad I mean that he usually was our worst or second-worst player.

I'm backing all our players and I'm happy when Diaby has a good match, but based on the level of his performances he shouldn't get that many matches
