it is december. the aftermath of the bomb (or exploding man, depending how 'in the know' you are) has started to dawn on the citizens of new york, and clean-up work has just begun.
very cold. in most places, the temperature is below zero degrees. snow lies everywhere, and gets thicker and thicker with every day, and harsh winds make the winter even colder.
a memorial service is being held in three weeks to remember all of the unfortunate heroes that lost their lives to the bomb blast killing over half the population of new york. will any heroes or villains make an appearance?

If it was even possible, Effy Annaliese Taylor was in an even worse mood than she had been the last three weeks. Purgatory was supposed to be empty and a way out, but this just... ached like nothing else she'd experienced before. Exercising self-control with her ability was a lot harder than she made it look, and being at the lowest of the low was luring her back into old habits. Shaking her head and pulling her thin purple cardigan around her shoulders again as she approached the large metal structure in front of her, a gust of wind blew, almost knocking her off her feet and ruining her beautifully shiny red hair. Scowling angrily, Effy cursed under her breath. Her appearance was something she took pride in; her minimal make-up and twee clothing adding to her 'sweet and innocent' facade, which helped her get away with murder - in the literal sense. Patting her hair again, hoping it looked somewhat satisfactory, Effy looked around at the desolate landscape she found herself facing. Oh, how interesting, Effy thought sarcastically. I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere. Hillbilly heaven.
Maybe Effy should seek a group entitled 'Abilityholics Anonymous', as her desperate cravings to use her ability weren't exactly being reduced by lack of usage. In fact, they were becoming more precise and stronger. Effy scowled, and ignored the last three weeks of 'being a better person'. Being sweet and lovely sucked. Snapping her fingers, a spark of lightning flew into her fingers, and Effy smiled as the usual rush of adrenaline she discovered when using her ability multiplied by at least twenty times because of its lack of usage. Grinning ear to ear, Effy laughed manically, resembling a mad scientist. It was beginning. Her chocolate brown eyes turned their electric blue that wasn’t a trick of the light. They only changed colour when she was using her ability, and only when she was using it at an extreme level. Effy frowned. She didn’t mean to be using her ability at such a power, and it was only when Effy looked up to the skies above her that she realized that she was causing a lightning storm. However, she was enjoying it, lapping up in the beauty of the lighting strikes dancing their minim beats and resting their minim rests amongst the clouds. As a strike of lightning struck the dry ground a couple of feet from where Effy was standing, her reverie was suddenly broken. Gasping, Effy’s eyes snapped back to their chocolate brown and she breathed deeply. Despite how much she wanted to, she couldn’t lose control. Especially not here. Although she’d walked out of school by choice, she was intelligent enough to know that metal was a very good conductor of electricity...
However, Effy would permit herself small uses of her ability, and of course, to use her ability, she was going to need a few willing unwilling test subjects. After all, it was much more fun watching them scream and squirm under her electric grasp. And as if by magic, a elderly woman walking hand in hand with a young girl that Effy presumed to be about five walked out from behind the structure, the little girl crying about the thunder and lightning that had subtly stopped a moment before. Effy grimaced. She hated the sound of little children crying. In her opinion, small young children should just be exterminated now. Smiling, as if she was doing the old woman a favour, Effy stepped out of the shadowed area in which she was previously standing in. Grinning her best friendly smile, Effy walked along past the refinery, and the little girl and the old woman stopped. For some reason unbeknownst to Effy that probably made perfect sense to the whining brat girl, she suddenly stopped her raucous wailing and started giggling loudly, pointing her stubby index finger directly at Effy. Effy scowled. She didn’t do humour or laughter, only sarcasm, and this little brat was getting on her last nerve. Effy wondered why she didn’t just kill the brat right here and now, but Effy wasn’t in a slaughtering mood... just a playful one.
"What’s the funny joke, little darling? Aren’t you adorable?” Effy asked, in a sweet simpering tone that made herself feel sick at her own words. Note to self; Effy told herself. Never, ever speak like that again. The old woman smiled, most likely stereotyping Effy in a single glance and expecting her to walk away with headphones in ears. Which, admittedly, on any other occasion, she would. Yet still the girl kept laughing at Effy. Laughing as if she was being tickled to kingdom come. Effy was pissed. "What is your PROBLEM?” Effy snapped, and cursed herself for it. Covering the first crack in her mask with a fake smile, the girl stopped laughing for a second at Effy’s expression, and then laughed hysterically again. That was it. Effy would never be able to find out what was so funny, and the little brat girl and her old companion would never live to tell anyone either. Smiling sadistically as she raised her two hands in front of her, Effy watched as a bolt of blue lightning came from each palm of her hands, one hitting the girl squarely in the chest, the other doing the same to the grandma. As her eyes turned their well-practised electric blue, Effy grinned, feeling a passion that she hadn’t felt for weeks. Ahhh, yes, Effy thought. This is good.

To say that Niall was bored with himself could be considered a bit of an understatement, at least considering that he had somehow managed to live in his own company for multiple weeks, most likely months. The watch that was strapped around his wrist had long been smashed, and since his phone had ran out of battery – that had been a good while back – Niall had quite simply lost all sense of time, and date. He had once tried to track the what the approximate time would be via the moon, he knew there was a new moon ever set number of days, but on cloudy nights that plan had quite simply gone out the window, and with no chance to even be able to work out the date, he had simply accepted that he never would probably know the time again.
By now, he had simply resorted to wandering, a lot of pointless actions, maybe with a chance of meeting someone else like him, someone a little different, with something that would be able to set them apart from the normal, again like him. Niall knew that he was very special, not just everyone got superpowers, and he liked his very much.
He had even been perfecting his techniques with it, learning just how to use it properly. Travel simply wasn’t a problem for him, or at least it wasn’t once he got up to speed, when he did he could travel at about the rate of a car, probably just a little slower. He had more importantly – in his opinion was the fighting aspects of his power, the pushing, and forcing that was more important for someone like him, someone who was on their own, even if through their own choice, and needing to find a way to survive. He knew now how to properly harness his own powers, that he needed to activate the forcing part of his power from a lower position, simply because it meant that more force was transferred up, and forced whoever he had targeted into the air, meaning that friction wouldn’t help them much, and he would be able to make them go even further away. It couldn’t be called the greatest defence method in history, but it meant that someone like him would be able, and capable to bullrushing whoever he might end up having to fight.
It was all that his power really about, being unexpected, and overwhelming anyone he ended up fighting quickly, before they could realise what he was doing. That said, it probably wasn’t the best idea in the world to be constantly thinking of how he would fight, that was far more likely to be able to produce a fight, just because of the fact that he might get a little to excited about fighting, and hurt someone who simply didn’t deserve it. That said again, just about everyone he could think of followed a set of rules that quite simply was just asking to make them a target, and have someone take advantage of their mindless obedience. He would have half a mind to do it himself, apart from the obvious problems of exposing himself again, and his parents most likely wanting him to come home, and live a normal life or something really stupid like that. He would never have a normal life, not anymore at least., not since his power. He would most likely have anything other than a normal life, just for the reason that he would be able to do something, something that no-one else could, and to him that was perfect, just act like a robot, you get what every other robot does, a shit job, a house, and every day the same as the last. You break away you get everything different, and it even seemed that you got to do something extraordinary.
He had been, actually he had no idea where he was, or why for that matter, no map, no reason, but anyway he was at an oil-refinery, or something like that. He was looking around, standing on one of the walkways that surrounded the entire thing, looking out, and again he didn’t know why. He looked down, there was a girl, about his age in the shadows, playing with some sort of light thing, flashes and such. He saw her step out of the shadows, moving and seeming to either be happy, or an evil sinister look about her. She was walking towards a little girl, and what must have been their grandmother.
Seconds later the girl had done something to them, electrocuted them or something of the like. She seemed to be slightly too happy with herself, and Niall moved from where he had been watching. ”Hey.” He called out, his power triggering, and he jumped, leaving a yellowish lightning trail behind himself. He landed perfectly, his hands producing enough force to keep him from crashing into the ground, and hurting himself, this girl was special, like him, and most likely it seemed she was against the society as well.
”Are you like me? He asked, ”Special?, he was genuinely interested in whether or not she could do something different as well, just for his own personal information, it was almost certain that she could.

Danny Wallace Odessa, Texas Chapter One
They say all peoples must go through their hardships. For Daniel James Wallace, this was more true than anything else. Thrown from his family, away from his friends, and now without any hope of the career he wanted to go into. Why did I bother coming out here...? he thought, looking around the building he stood around. He already knew the answer. It was either stay here, or go back to the horribly depressing Motel room he was calling 'home'. Another unsuccessful day's worth of job searching ended in misery when the best place for him to work admitted they stopped taking applications 4 hours before he came in. He started to hate himself slightly, with all the temptations that started playing around in his mind. All the money he had was being sucked up by that motel room, leaving him with little-to-no money to spend on food. He came so close to using his power to steal food so many times. "What kind of person would you be if you started doing that? No example to set..." he said, picking up a rock and throwing it at the metal walls, causing a vibration against the wall as it struck. He'd walked past the police station in Manhattan so many times, thinking he may as well swallow his pride and apply. But he couldn't bring himself to do it. He'd come so far to apply himself to that. And anyway, in this new world, in New York, he'd never get in. They'd more than likely check for his ability, locate it and lock him up. It was the way Earth was since New York blew up. He looked through his phone, in the long-shot his dad had came to his senses. Nothing, apart from the daily text update from Richard, his brother: Hope you're doing well. Dad's still ignoring the fact you exist. Mum's started asking me how you are. As for me, the Guv's thinking of promoting me within the next few months! Detective Inspector! Just be careful out there. I've heard about what happens to people like you out there now. Hoping you'll come back soon. - Ritchie A tear trickled down Danny's face. His mum was finally coming to terms with his exile. It was the thing that made his whole week worthwhile. He pressed the reply button and wrote; I'm doing alright. Job hunting is a bitch but I'm getting by. I'm currently kicking back in Odessa, getting some me-time. I should be getting on now, got more jobs to look for! - Danny That last text was a lie. He had nowhere else to look for now, and it was getting more and more depressing. He looked up at a bar above him, and teleported himself up into the air to grab the bar. He started doing chin ups, and was at number ten when he heard the noise from outside, causing him to fall to the ground, onto his arm. He shouted in pain, but composed himself, going outside to check. There he saw two children, and two bodies on the ground. Both of them looked fried, and the two children had glowing lights coming from them. "What was that chapter I read...?" he thought, thinking back to when he'd read Activating Evolution. "Energy Generation! Must be!" He muttered. But the big question now was, to step in and calm it down or to let them duke it out? The question was solved instantly, as he'd found himself walking down there without a hesitation. "WHOA!" he shouted, runnign straight down to the people on the ground. "Keep this up and these people may get seriously hurt!" he said, before kneeling down by both of their sides. It may have been nerves, but he couldn't find a pulse on either of them. Great. he thought, standing up. "They're dead. And that's quite serious. Who done it?" He said, thinking both of them could be capable of it. They might be able to shoot energy at me, but they're not faster than me. He thought. ____________________________________________________________________ Word Count: 679 Clothes: Vest, beaten green jacket, blue jeans and a pair of black converse. Effy’s eyes were still their electric blue, and her evil sadistic smile was still in place as she pushed all of her energy into maiming these two irritating people into kingdom come. As her smile grew bigger, Effy’s two victims had stopped moving, only being held up by the sheer force and magnitude of the lightning bolts issuing from Effy’s ‘bloody’ hands. Effy gasped, and closed her opened palms into fists, stopping the lightning flow, and watched as the two – now dead – victims hit the floor with a large thump. Their eyes were still open, the little girl’s a beautiful amber colour filled with tears. Effy looked down at the two corpses, not sure what to feel. She’d just killed two people for the first time in months, and yet... she didn’t really feel anything. Just a hard, solid core where emotions used to be. That was what scared Effy the most – not the fact that she was an utter fucked up psycho, or the fact that her ability was utterly destructive, but the fact that she couldn’t feel for dead or wounded people anymore terrified her, although she was much too proud to let it show. Looking down at the two freshly slain corpses again, Effy’s eyes turned back to their usual chocolate brown. Maybe she should lay off the whole losing control thing, at least just for a while. It surely wasn’t healthy to be keeling over and gasping for breath after using her ability, right?
Effy sighed. At least I can’t get caught for killing, Effy thought, trying to be an optimist, which failed. Effy was never optimistic, unless being a cow was involved. Yet another freak lightning storm, the third one this year... The other thing that Effy was scared of was if anyone found out about just how many people she had killed. These two added up to her fourth and fifth kills, and if it weren’t for the fact that her ability was so detached and remote, almost like turning on a light switch, then she’d be a serial killer before, or at least locked up somewhere like a loony farm, i.e.; the shrinks office. She’d been through that before, and didn’t intend to again, thanks very much. Sighing, and kicking the corpses over with her foot to stop them pleading at Effy with their enlarged glassy eyes, Effy pulled her cardigan off from her shoulders. It had suddenly got a lot hotter and more humid in here, and she sighed. Why was the incessant change in temperature throwing her so much today? Then, it suddenly hit her – quite literally. A burst of energy came sweeping towards her, and she gasped as it knocked her off her feet in surprise. It was only after Effy had fallen onto her rear, ruining the bottom of her brand new jeans – that she saw that the bolt of energy was nothing more than a human being. A man, to be precise. Effy gasped. She was meant to be the only special one around here!
As he stopped, Effy looked up at him with a gaze of vindictive fury; no-one ever made Effy Taylor embarrass herself. Especially when she was in a bad mood. ”Hey!” the man called, and Effy didn’t respond, too angry and irritated to muster up an answer. Her mouth was merely open in shock. The only time she’d ever seen anyone have an ability like hers was when her best friend Katrina’s had manifested, and that hadn’t exactly ended well. Effy scowled, looking down instinctively at her right arm, where the large burn mark was still etched into her skin, a painless reminder of her lovely lovely pally Katrina. As Effy took a fleeting run down Memory Lane, she suddenly realised that someone was addressing her... and she was still on the floor. Growling like a lion, she rose to her feet, too cool to dust off the bottom of her trousers. As if the man hadn’t taken the hint and left yet, he asked another question. “Are you like me? Special?” Effy smiled, and couldn’t help but break her self imposed silence at that point. ”Oh no, not at all. Because I totally didn’t just slaughter those two imbeciles over there with my magic lightning hands.” Effy said, teasing him by clicking her fingers and watching as the spark came glowing out of the end of her index finger. She smiled coyly. ”So, what’s your story, Lightning McQueen?” she asked, thrusting the name of the speedy little car from an old Pixar film she’d watched a lifetime ago.
Lightning McQueen and the Magic Glowing Hands Girl. What a pair they made.
”WHOA!” came a cry from behind McQueen and Effy. Lo and behold, it was yet another intruder on what should have been Effy’s peaceful day out. Great. Just effing great, Effy thought sarkily. "Keep this up and these people may get seriously hurt!" Effy sighed as the bleeding heart that had joined the two specials kneeled down next to the two fresh corpses, and tried to examine their bodies with an air of knowing what he was doing that was instantly snuffed out when he realised that the two were dead. How incredibly slow. “They're dead. And that's quite serious. Who done it?" Effy smiled seductively as always. This man knew way too much, and he wasn’t going to last much longer if he wasn’t careful.
”Guess who?” asked Effy, and she laughed. How fun this little game of hers was going to be.

Thunderstorms. This was turning out to be the greatest day of Katrina's life so far. The teenage girl to be honest was not particularly fond of thunderstorms, she wasn't frightened of them, but in a foreign deserted place such as this, they were likely to put Katrina's nerves on end. How had she come to be in this place? She had gone on a road trip, visiting some friends in the state of Texas. Katrina had nearly reached her destination but then unfortunately her car - a present from her guardian and half of her savings - had broken down just outside of Odessa. Fortunate for her, some people on their way into the town had helped her out of the goodness of their hearts and she had booked a room in a small hotel with basic facilities. She was used to the cold, icy weather of New York City, but after the incident that had happened - the bomb in other words - Katrina had taken a detour down south. The journey had been fine to say the least, after having her right arm strapped up in the bright blue sling, standing out from her black hoodie, simple tasks were made a lot harder. Unfortunately, her right arm being the dominant usually, Katrina had been restricted from artwork, writing, computer games and also driving although she had ignored the last one. She had to drive. That was her freedom button, the only escape that Katrina could use in the extreme cases that she needed it. It was also very useful, she didn't have to rely on her guardian, Lana, anymore even if the fuel money was earned from the money her paintings sold for.
Currently, Katrina had ventured out from the accomodation, wandering around the place. It did seem oddly familiar somehow, although most towns had the same basic layout. Her thoughts had led her to an abandoned oil refinery, Katrina recognised the structure from various pictures a fellow classmate had done on resources for the future. Strangely she had actually paid attention in class that day, that had been the day Katrina's power had manifested. After having a very verbal argument with a cheerleader, Katrina had nearly twisted her arm so it had broken before that had happened, Katrina's anger had taken over and set the cheerleader's jumper on fire, the flames emitting from her hands. Out of shock and most likely fright, Katrina had jumped into the school's swimming pool, the scars all along her lower arms had been etched onto her skin that day. Nobody had even noticed her, they were all fussing over Little-Miss-USA, scarred for life. Who would believe the social outcast had magically produced fire from her hands? No one, that was the answer, apart from her ex-best friend, Effy Taylor. It had been at least a couple of years since Katrina had made contact with her, but there were reasons for everything. Such as Effy had turned into a complete psychopath after discovering Katrina also had an ability.
As the thunder rumbled ahead, Katrina took shelter under the metal structure, which probably wasn't the safest thing to do, but at least if it did rain, Katrina wouldn't get wet, disabling her power whic would not be a good thing, especially in an unknown place such as Texas. Now that she thought of it, didn't Texas have the reputation of having qualities of a desert or perhaps something out of a cowboy movie with Clint Eastwood? Katrina was not the one to critize though; her geography was appaling. Luckily, she had been allowed to drop the subject at school to give her more time for her artwork. Katrina would probably have a yelling at when she returned to her school in New York. Her art teacher for the last few semesters, Mrs Stoneham, would not be pleased with her. *More like she would have a fit.* Katrina added mentally. Apart from her art lessons and spare time in the music department, Katrina hated school, and couldn't wait to get out to college, if she was accepted that was.
A voice, tugging at a somewhat familiar memory interrupted her thoughts. "What is your PROBLEM?” It was half shouted, half gritted through someone's teeth, as if they were at the point they were so angry they were going to snap in half. Literally. Hidden in the shadow of the abandoned oil refinery, Katrina froze in her position of leaning against one of the metal stands. The vibrant red hair stood out against the purple cardigan she was wearing and for a second, the leader singer of Paramore, Haley Williams, crossed her mind before coming back to reality. It couldn't be Effy, could it? No, it wasn't. Of course it wasn't! Why on earth would Effy be out in the middle of nowhere anyway? As Katrina tried to convince herself it was not her almost arch enemy, Katrina cursed under breath as a bolt of lightning hit a young girl and the old lady next to her. "Oh sh*t!" That would be Katrina's two word summary of realization. Katrina remembered the pain of being hit by Effy's lightning strikes, it hurt, badly. Although she hadn't been burnt after their fight, Katrina could remember the afterwards shock of losing her best friend. That had been twice as painful. While Katrina's panic rose, another person appeared on the scene. A boy probably around the age of the two girls, looking extremely plain compared to Effy. He had called out towards Effy and she mentally pleaded him not to. "Hey." As Katrina watched the scene, she had to blink before believing what she saw. Did he just...transport himself via electricity? She had never seen any powers other than her own and Effy's. It was going to take some time to get used to others who were like them. Special.
Hoping that he could fight back, Effy would pick a fight with anyone, Katrina with some mild difficulty, pulled the large hood over her head so that Effy wouldn't recognise her. She decided to watch the scene a little further, which was a good idea as another guy ran onto the scene. Was this place just an...attraction for people like herself and Effy? It seemed so as he seemed to be checking whether the small girl and the granny were dead. Not being able to hear clearly across the distance, Katrina gathered that it was something about the two not living. This really wasn't going to end well. Anyone who crossed Effy nowadays would be toasted alive. Katrina moved her eyes back towards her old friend, who seemed to be teasing the first boy to appear on the scene. *Don't. Attempt. To. Reason. With. Her.* She commented in her mind, wishing that she had telepathy after reading about it on the internet. They were going to be dead, anytime soon, unless they were villians like Effy. Deciding to step forward, Katrina exhaled before doing so, coming out of the shadow of the refinery."Leave them alone, Effy." Katrina spoke up so her voice would be heard, approaching the trio. This was going to be one hell of a show. "They haven't done anything to you, leave them be." Soundtrack • Into The Fire - Thirteen Senses, A Little Piece Of Heaven - Avenged Sevenfold. As Niall had landed right in-front of the girl, he had given her a cold stare. She had seemed to be a little too happy about what she had done, and in Niall’s mind it was something which he was actually struggling to weigh up properly. He held a certain amount of respect for her, and a certain amount of hatred. Yes she must obviously be evil, but on the other hand she was just like him, someone who seemed to be dead set against the same things as him, it was something which he might actually not be able to weigh up against one another. It was really annoying him as well, so all he decided was to hold a silent respect for her, even if she wouldn’t know anything about it.
She certainly had a cocky attitude to him, sarcastic as well. Half his mind would have rather simply blasted her back a few yards, that would show her that she really should never mess with someone who they didn’t know much about, and even more so should the person who you where messing with be able to do something that you couldn’t understand. Somehow she had dubbed him ‘Lightning McQueen’ that was pushing him a little too far, but he would tell her anyway.
”What would you want to know?” He asked back, his face serious, and only just showing under the black hoody he was wearing. He liked the shadows a lot, and the protection that they where able to grant people. ”And I ain’t to keen on the way you seem to be acting, and a name would have been nice too.” Some warning, Niall seemed to be in the position, once again where his mind was acting, and making warning and threats much before he could think of any possible way to even follow them up.
Then some other person had come up to them, seeming to be concerned for the two people on the ground, for a reason that Niall couldn’t quite fathom, Niall had actually forgotten/not really cared for them, which obviously meant that this person was his enemy, and must be part of one of these controlled societies, where every single person was looking out for one another. Either way, this older person had confirmed that they where both dead, which hadn’t surprised him, the girl had electrocuted them both, and what was even his problem anyway. Niall didn’t even look at him, completely ignoring the man, to a point where he was almost pretending the man didn’t even exist. What should Niall care if some people where dead, evolution, or something like it, he had learned about it in biology. ‘Survival of the fittest’. He supposed that this answered the questions in his mind a bit more, he did have respect for the girl, and the way that she simply seemed to have so little care for anyone else. He could give her that much, but nothing else, not with the way she seemed to be acting, her cocky attitude was quite simply going to land her in trouble, and since he was there, most likely him as well. There was some temptation in his mind to silence the man as well, he could take him quite easily, a non powered human being versus him, someone with a clear advantage.
Then some other person had turned up, frustrating Niall a little bit. How many people just kept appearing? Honestly he would have been fine with a little chat with this lightning girl, even if she was a little evil. Now it was some kind of freaky gathering or something, and it was unsettling Niall a little. His ability sparked and he turned to face the newcomer, who had also taken to hiding their face. Yellow sparks began to erupt all around him, like a warning flash or something. Depending on how this person reacted would determine what he would do. Any sort of panic, and he would instantly move to hide his power, and secret, by either knocking out, or killing them. Either would do to keep himself, and the things which he was able to do a secret.
At least the newcomer, who was probably a girl by the sound of her voice had told her something, the name of the first girl, Effy. Niall didn’t actually have that much care for it, but now at least he wouldn’t simply be referring to her as ‘that girl’ or ‘lightning girl’ or anything like that. ”You might want to leave.” He muttered, the yellow flashes getting more violent like, and angry as Niall did, he was hating all these people turning up, this person who seemed to care for the dead people, and the other one, who seemed to think that Effy was dangerous. Of course she would be dangerous, she had just killed two people, and it wasn’t like he could find that a problem, if the time needed him to be, he would be a killer, a rebel of sort.
There was a quick glance back up to the walkway, where Niall could see the black backpack leaning against a wall. It was his, the only thing which he actually had from before he had left his family, although the original contents where long gone. Who had the time to read books when they where travelling, and on their own, looking out for their own survival? Or who had time for petty things like computer games? Not him anymore. Stuck in there was a music played, a charger (even though he had never once used it, he was planning to have a go, if he could prove able to sneak into a shop, and use one of it’s plugs). No-one could say he wasn’t planning to be resourceful. Other than that there was a couple of packets of biscuits, all stolen of course, a couple of bottles of water, again stolen, and one very torn map. Actually since he was in a town, maybe he would be able to steal another one, and hopefully be able to locate where exactly he was anyway.

Effy smiled at the little spark cracking around in her fingers, desperate to roam free somewhere... like the two men’s chests electrocuting them to kingdom come. Clenching her hand into a fist to stop herself from taking another two lives here today, Effy breathed deeply, doing something trivial like tossing her hair to stop her from roasting the two newcomers alive. Still no response from either of them. Calm, Effy, she told herself reluctantly. Breathe. In for four, out for four. Just because they’re like you doesn’t mean they’re a threat. As soon as Effy knew she was stable, she smiled at the two newcomers again. ”So, what brings you here, anyway? The middle of nowhere? Is this some sort of magical unspoken gathering place for people with abilities?” Effy asked, trying to keep her voice even and as non-maniacal as possible. It really wasn’t good for her to be around people that were like her, it really wasn’t. After all, she still had the reminders on her arm of what had happened last time.
And to be honest, a fire fight was something Effy wasn’t mentally ready to re-live.
Despite how incredibly thick-skinned she was, and in spite of her bravado in front of the newcomers, one that was a special, and one that could possibly be... or he knew too much... Effy couldn’t help but get the feeling that she was being watched, although she knew it was irrational. The landscape was so desolate that she’d be able to see anyone a mile away, especially a stalker. Besides, they wouldn’t last very long against Effy. But then again, maybe Effy had aimed pretty near at her derogatory joke of the ’magical unspoken gathering place for people with abilities’. This place was definitely starting to freak her out, but for some odd reason, she definitely didn’t regret coming here.
McQueen finally began to speak, something that Effy had been anticipating for her whole time in this very slow conversation. ”What would you want to know?” Effy smiled at that question. Answering questions with a question irritated Effy, although she did it no end when in her ‘I’m so fit and mysterious!’ mood. ”And I aint too keen on the way you seem to be acting, and a name would have been nice too.” Effy scowled. She didn’t like being told off or told what to do, especially by her peers. Trying not to lose her head, Effy clamped her teeth down on her bottom lip whilst trying to smile casually. She wasn’t going to lose it with this guy. After all, he could be useful, and finding out what he knew would be a lot harder if he was dead. He needed to gain her trust, and by that, she would have to relax her usual bravado, even if it was just for a second or two. ”My name, dear saint, is hateful to myself,” Effy said, winking. Most people were always thrown when she opened her mouth and started spouting the genius of English Literature, especially from someone as twee-looking and ‘innocent’ as she was. ”Although, most people do call me Effy. However, I didn’t get your name either... or would you prefer me call you McQueen?” Effy asked, trying hard not to splutter or laugh. Although she was giving him details that were on a need to know basis only, such as her name, she still wasn’t going to drop her ‘fit-and-mysterious’ act. Maybe it was just inbuilt.
Effy’s full attention was on McQueen, having completely forgotten about the ignorant man standing behind her who Effy held no interest in whatsoever. If he wasn’t special, them Effy really couldn’t care less. Smiling again at McQueen, alluring him to tell Effy something about himself, Effy twiddled her hair. This conversation was taking a down-turn, mainly because Effy had the attention span of someone with ADHD. However, the conversation she was participating in was suddenly going to get much more interesting, even if it wasn’t in the ways she wanted.
”Leave them alone, Effy.”
Effy’s jaw dropped unwillingly, as if it wanted to fall past the floor of its own accord. She couldn’t be hearing this. Not now. Not here. Not with other specials. When she thought that this was a magical gathering place for specials, she hadn’t realised just how right she was. Effy gasped, on the verge of tears, but closed her eyes, blinking rapidly and severely. Tears were something that Effy had vowed never to do again, but although her proud exterior couldn’t show her emotions, her interior was freefalling into insanity, her life flashing before her eyes with the person who the voice unmistakably came from. Effy had to be hallucinating, she had to. She hadn’t even seen Katrina yet, and Effy breathed. She’d often had hallucinations before of the day of the fight, the day where everything went so wrong. However, Effy gasped again, sucking in her breath as the figure stepped out of the shadows. It was petite, and although a large hood was covering most of her face – like McQueen – Effy could still see a few strands of brunette Katrina hair peeking out from outside the hood. This was almost too much for Effy to bear – all the sudden emotions she’d been suppressing for so long were bursting out of her, and her left hand began to sparkle unwillingly. She was losing control. Happiness, shock, anger and nausea were all pulsing through her veins, and Effy turned, her hand still electrified to face Katrina.
"They haven't done anything to you, leave them be." Effy smiled at that remark. Same old Katrina, peacemaking as always, which instinctively reminded her of how the two had always loved the fight scene at the beginning of Romeo and Juliet, Katrina the naïve peacemaking Benvolio, and Effy the feisty and aggressive Tybalt. Some things ever changed, and apparently Katrina’s nature was one of them. Despite her desperate longings to roast this intruder alive, Effy smiled. She would humour Katrina first... before moving in for the kill.
”Peace? I hate the word,” Effy snapped, not having to get into character to spit the lines out with vehemence. ”As I hate hell, all Canltons... and thee.” Effy was aware of her hand still being full of electricity, and grinning, she clicked her fingers rapidly, snuffing the spark out then rekindling it again. ”Despite what you may think, Benvolio, I happen to be talking to these good people civilly, Effy said coldly. ”But now that you mention it, how clichéd would it be to have a fight? That is how the scene goes, if you remember.” A fight was exactly what Effy was looking for. Katrina was going to pay for the marks left etched into Effy’s arm, and now was the time for revenge. McQueen and the other boy were suddenly unimportant, and they’d most likely perish in the battle between the elements, not that Effy cared. This was between Effy and Katrina – or Benvolio and Tybalt – and there was a score to settle here, and it was going to be done now. Do or die.

Danny stood there brazenly taking in this site. Two children, behaving like savages. Taking pride in their destructive work. Or at least one was. 'Effy', her name was. Is this the state the world has come to? Christ, I miss the Bosnian Conflict... he thought, remembering the days where his dad was overseas fighting. At least back then children behaved! None of this 'rebelling' bullsh*t... But this nostalgia wasn't going to get him down, as he had a situation to try diffusing. "It's not your place..." He mumbled, thinking for a fraction of a second it'd not be a tragedy to let these two fight and kill each other. They seemed to be ignoring him. This was good, however. It gave him time to formulate a plan to stop them, if need be. He just needed his moment...
This seemed to be interrupted by the arrival of another girl. She seemed roughly the same age as the other two, but with a different purpose: Stopping Effy. Good luck with that one! He noticed it at that moment. Effy was behaving differently. Somewhere between tears and being delirious, so it seemed. This is either highly dangerous or my moment... he thought, raising himself to his feet, ready to diffuse the situation before anyone else got hurt badly. Three evolved humans in one place, with One homicidal and another with the power to rip a hole in the universe would not work well together.

"...But now that you mention it, how clichéd would it be to have a fight? That is how the scene goes, if you remember." Effy finished, going on a long rant about Shakespeare. "How quaint..." He said, speaking up for the first time since confirming the deaths. Noticing the electricity in Effy's hands, he froze time without even blinking. He was carrying a bottle of water in his back pocket, not a huge amount, but enough to disarm Effy. He unscrewed the bottle, and turned it upside down above her hands. "Sorry, miss." He said, before going back to his place.
"Oh, calm down Sparky." He said, as the little water in his bag made contact with her electricity, before picking up the empty bottle. "Don't you know it's dangerous to play with electricity? We're all seen public information films... "Little Johnny gets electrocuted after sticking a fork in the toaster!" and so forth." He walked around to the other girl, via the boy there. "Listen McQueen, I'm not above beating a kid if he tries anything. Whatever you can do, I'll always be faster." he whispered to him. Standing with the other girl, he said quite simply to her: "Even if you're like us, this isn't safe here. My advice is to run." He finished, giving her a look of authority, mixed with concern.

As the boy next to Effy sparked off his power, Katrina kept her distance from the two, stopping as she walked. A couple of yellow sparks would never scare herself, it would take one hell of a lot more to do that. Katrina simply stood her ground, moving her weight to her right leg. If only her arm wasn't broken, Katrina would have already attacked Effy, but her left not being her dominant arm, it would take a bit more concentration on her part. Her eyes moved towards Effy, but then back to the boy. "You might want to leave." He muttered and the flashes around him became brighter, as if he were getting angry. What did people have against her these days? She was just trying to make the world a tiny bit better, helping people. That's all, and Effy wasn't exactly helping her, more opposite her. Katrina narrowed her eyes at the boy, removing her hood so she could see all of them, also to prove her idenity to Effy. "Good try, but it isn't going to work, I'm afraid." Katrina gave him a small smile, now wasn't exactly the time to make enemies, but the boy was proving to be a threat. "If anyone wants to leave, I think it should be you. That girl next to you is a ticking bomb." Her words were self explaintary, Effy was literally a ticking bomb. Anything would set her off.
When she had appeared from her hiding place, Effy's jaw dropped, Katrina found it hard not to let the smile appear on her face. The blue of her eyes matched the electricity in her hand and Katrina raised an eyebrow. She certainly had...grown, power wise. It was strange...Katrina knew that Effy was the more stupid one of the two, but she didn't want her to be a copycat. The eye changing colour was her trademark, even if she didn't mean it to happen. After saying her second sentence, Effy's face beared a smile. "Peace? I hate the word," Effy snapped. Katrina nearly let the smile form, but kept her face straight. When they had been friends, the two had taken part in a school production of Romeo and Juliet. Although they had only been extras, Katrina and Effy had pretended to be Tybalt and Benvolio, seeing it fit due to their personalities. "As I hate hell, all Canltons...and thee." At this, Katrina glared at Effy. If she were to even think about insulting her parents, or any of her family for that, she was going to be burnt as a crisp the time Katrina would be finished with her. Her parents had died in a car accident on her seventh birthday, Effy knew that plain and clear that they had meant a lot to her.
She clicked her fingers to re-spark her power. ”Despite what you may think, Benvolio, I happen to be talking to these good people civilly." Katrina wouldn't believe that but the coldness in Effy's voice started to annoy her. "But now that you mention it, how clichéd would it be to have a fight? That is how the scene goes, if you remember.” Of course Katrina remembered it. From English lessons, the script had been permantely etched into her brain, although that wasn't a bad thing. "We talk here in the public haunt of men: either withdraw unto some private place." Katrina replied, looking her straight in the eye. She had decided to skip a couple of acts. "Or reason coldy of your grievances, or else depart; here all eyes gaze on us." She didn't want electric boy to get hurt, she didn't want any of them to get hurt for that matter, but this was Effy they were talking about.
"How quaint..." She turned her head towards the voice, almost forgetting about the other guy, older than all of them. As Katrina blinked, a small amount of water made contact with Effy's hands and she fought back the smirk. "Oh, calm down Sparky." That was a good nickname, why hadn't she thought of that? Sparky...it had that ring to it. "Don't you know it's dangerous to play with electricity? We've all seen public information films...'Little Johnny gets electrocuted after sticking a fork in the toaster!' and so forth." Katrina would have pointed out that they never watched any of those films at school, the teacher had presumed they were all smart enough not to do it. The other man had whispered something to electric boy before standing beside herself, speaking. "Even if you're like us, this isn't safe here. My advice is to run."
Katrina picked up the concern, but also the fact that he was trying to warn her. She didn't need warning, not after Effy and herself had made that last fight. Raising her left hand to shoulder level, careful not to hit her sling underneath the black hoodie, Katrina let a small flame light in the middle of her palm, contrasting against her pale skin. As she did so, her eyes flashed from the once dark chocolate brown to a vibrant scarlet, a warning sign. Holding the flare for a minute, Katrina extingushed it by closing her hand and letting it fall to her side. "I do realize the danger of being here, but I think I can take care of myself." She stated, keeping her voice normal and hiding her English accent under an American one. "I have some history from meeting that girl, but I'm here to keep the peace. Nothing more." ”So, what brings you here, anyway? The middle of nowhere? Is this some sort of magical unspoken gathering place for people with abilities?” Niall listened to the girl, Effy speak again. ”Beats me why I’m here, just go where I want to really.” There was truth in that, since Niall had run off he had held very little care for where he was, and hell he had no idea where he was, the map in his backpack up on the walkway was torn, a lot, and hence Niall had simply began to realise he had very little, if any way of recording where he was. Stealing a new one, and maybe keeping to roads could be a possibility for him, if he wanted to know where he was, but again the very little amount of care he had crept in, as long as he didn’t end up in Mexico or somewhere that was alright. And then he realised he had no idea whether he was in Mexico or not. He remembered a couple of things from school, like the sun rising on the west, and setting on the east, but still he had no idea, or again care. Besides he hadn’t seen any of those crazy rednecks with their guns standing at a fence, so he couldn’t of ran past the border, unless he was that fast. But he knew he probably couldn’t have, first of all he would have had to go around the fence, and secondly if he was in Mexico, then why would everyone be speaking English, and not Spanish? That would be enough evidence for him, and had totally convinced him he hadn’t managed to cross countries. He seemed to have made Effy unhappy somehow, by not even attempting to answer her question, instead more or less telling her to ask a new question. ”My name, dear saint, is hateful to myself,” What kind of crap was that, this girl, despite seeming to be on the same idea level as himself, was; instead of speaking like a common person, was speaking like some sort of posh twat or something. It angered him slightly, why did someone have to invent a language where you could speak in riddles, and what the hell did she even mean? It was garbage, or something of the like, and why the hell was she acting the way she was, it was like she was trying to use him or something, and all he wanted was to know if this person was the same as him, in ways of ideals and stuff. ”My name is Niall.” He said, pulling the hoody down, to reveal his messy hair, and most likely the frustration that existed on his face. Then Effy reacted strangely, to the newcomer, the one who he threatened. He was still sparking, and facing them, when the other guy, the one that Niall had simply chosen to completely ignore. He seemed to have some sort of ideas, some contributions to the others, and to Niall. He really was the outsider there anyway, Niall, Effy and the other girl where all clearly younger, and probably by a good bit. "Listen McQueen, I'm not above beating a kid if he tries anything. Whatever you can do, I'll always be faster." Who was this guy, and how the hell could he even think he would be faster than Niall so far he had shown no ability to be special, and different from the rest of them, and besides, Niall was confident he would be able to take him out, completely, even if he had an ability like the rest of them, and even if he did, he shouldn’t deserve it, he was clearly a ‘robot’ and robots didn’t get to be special or different, they should simply be like every other robot in the world, produced the same, and made to do the same thing, again and again until they die, at which point other robots would feel sorry, and then pretend to still be sad, while going back to the same old routine. Then he said something odd, ’like us’ That made everything a little different, Niall could now probably place a little money – even though he didn’t have any – on the guy having an ability, or being able to do something special. Either way, Niall didn’t like him, and probably wouldn’t ever, the guy seemed like a robot, and a symbol of some control the society held over people, and he didn’t even deserve a power, if he had one. The sparks where getting even more violent, surrounding Niall in a shower of explosive light. The was a faint smirk on his face, and he looked at the other girl again, Effy had started talking to her, and for a second Niall thought she might actually be talking in normal talk, instead of that posh riddle language she had been talking in earlier. But no, back to the ‘sophisticated’ language they where, and back to Niall having to actually put some thought into even being able to understand what she was saying. A couple of glanced between them, and only a couple of words even understood, Niall was now simply lost. Effy seemed to be wanting to fight the new girl, all he knew was her second name was ‘Canlton’, and that was all. She hadn’t been too keen to leave when he had given it a shot of scaring her, instead she had suggested he should go, and there was no chance of that, ever, and then there was the thing about Effy being some, to put it in her words ’ticking time bomb’ Nah. He would completely ignore her, there was quite simply no need to even consider listening to her, she was probably just trying to trick him into ending up in the middle of the two of them fighting or something like that, and he had absolutely no intention of ever ending up in between some fight like that. The ‘Canlton’ girl seemed to think that she was here to keep peace, Niall doubted that would happen, by the reaction of Effy, it had simply made it even more likely that some sort of fight would erupt, a cat fight of something, albeit a superpowered cat-fight. That could possibly actually turn out to be quite funny though, so really Niall gave another small smirk, and the sparks around him died down slightly, though there was a little buzzing noise surrounding him constantly, he was preparing himself in case he found that he needed to access his ability quickly, and if he needed to, he would almost certainly have to go and attack someone, probably the newcomer, the flame girl, there was a flame in her hand. That should be what Niall called her, ‘flame girl’ was much better than ‘Canlton’, and sounded a little less sinister. Niall didn’t really like thinking of himself as evil, more someone who was neutral. It wasn’t in him to be an evil person, and he wouldn’t kill for the sake of killing. Even when he stole, he stole to keep himself alive, and if the stores were finding that they where unable to stop him from stealing, then that should be their problem, for being unable to stop him. No, to him he wasn’t evil, though he did feel like a lot of his opinions on things where being taken from other opinions, and sort of just being added into them. Niall didn’t feel like he could be turned in opinion one way, or back to the ‘robot’ setting, but he more felt like he was the sort of person who could fall onto the side of evil, even if just by a misguided sense of purpose or something like that.

Effy sighed. This whole conversation was getting stupider and stupider by the minute. She’d merely come out just for a little walk to clear her head, and now she’d found herself stuck in the middle of a fight between three, perhaps four people with abilities. And to put the icing on top of the very ironic cake, her arch enemy Katrina Canlton was also here, trying to beat Effy not only through power of ability but also power of wit. Effing fantastic. There was also another man who Effy had addressed by asking him his name, and he still hadn’t responded – until now. ”My name is Niall,” he said. Niall, huh? Not a bad name at all. It didn’t sound exactly trustworthy, but Effy could work with that. As for the other boy, he still held no interest to Effy, and so she still held her hand out, the small bolts of lightning flickering around her hand, enough to show that she wasn’t going to hurt them *cough* except for Katrina, but also enough to show that she wasn’t one to be messed with. Besides, even if any of them did have a bottle of water handy, it wasn’t as if they were going to get anywhere near her to try and throw it on her, right? How wrong she was.
Gasping for a moment as something suddenly felt very strange, Effy opened her eyes a split second later – and there was water all over her hands. Effy shrieked, half out of pain, more than half out of rage. Who did this?! she thought, fuming. It didn’t take long for her question to be answered. "Oh, calm down Sparky. Don't you know it's dangerous to play with electricity? We're all seen public information films... "Little Johnny gets electrocuted after sticking a fork in the toaster!" and so forth." Effy was speechless. How could he have gotten so close to her? He must also have a power... Effy sighed again. This really was not her day. Bumping into Katrina, Niall, and the un-named psycho who would most likely end up dead if he ever tried pulling a stunt like that on Effy ever again. As he went to talk to Niall McQueen and Katrina about something, most likely her, Effy scowled, putting her hands on her hips. So who was he, some sort of amazing councillor? Whatever he was, it wasn’t exactly his place to bitch about people when they were in the vicinity, although it did look like he was warning Katrina against something. And with good reason, thought Effy. If we do get into a fight, he knows exactly what the outcome will be.
It looked like Katrina was also having a bit of trouble deciphering McQueen. Katrina muttered something to him, and Effy swore she heard the phrase ‘ticking time bomb’ in there. Effy smiled. Well, at least little Katrina had got something right. As of now, McQueen wasn’t the threat. However, for Katrina and the water boy, it was only a matter of time before Effy’s self control went flying out of the window. At this point, Effy would normally have set her electricity flow running again, but after the water incident, she had decided against it. "We talk here in the public haunt of men: either withdraw unto some private place. Or reason coldly of your grievances, or else depart; here all eyes gaze on us." Effy frowned. That was in Act Three, and she sighed. Effy really was looking forward to re-enacting the fight scene, but Katrina non-subtle evasive techniques were making sure that it wasn’t possible. Effy growled internally. Shakespeare or no Shakespeare, Katrina was going to get hurt, but if Shakespeare was the route she was going down, then two could easily play at that game. Effy smiled, choosing her lines carefully, even if she was skipping parts of the script. ”The love I bear thee can afford no better term than this; thou art a villain.” Katrina opened her hand, and Effy looked at it indifferently as a small fire appeared in the palm of Katrina’s outstretched hand, and again, Effy wasn’t surprised when Katrina extinguished it by closing her hand into a fist. Effy scowled, and clicked her fingers, making the spark in her hand a lot bigger, resembling a flare. Katrina was really starting to grate at Effy’s nerves, and so this time, Effy kept it simple. ”Turn and draw!” she snapped, gazing intently at Katrina, who was now muttering to the other boy – the water thrower. If they were thinking of palling up together, or indeed, consorting, then they would have a hell of a fight on their hands.
Speaking of which, the water-thrower had done a very good job so far of flying under Effy’s radar, which was going to end right now. He had physically hurt her, even if it had been to stop her from electrocuting the crap out of Katrina, but it had still burnt her, which was so not right. So not right at all. Whilst he was talking to Katrina and had his attention fully on her, Effy smiled, seizing her chance. The spark that was rubbing between her fingers fired up fully, filling her hand with a large source of light. Whatever his power was, he wasn’t going to be able to stop this one. This was a mega bolt that would make his bones shudder, and if Effy couldn’t attack Katrina, Waterboy here was definitely the next best thing. Moving her arm back as if she was going to throw a long ball in rounders, she aimed it at his chest and waited for it to hit him squarely. Now, he’d know exactly how it felt.

This girl who arrived seemed to be confident in herself to stick around. And the fire from her hands stuck with Danny: Fire-making... interesting. he thought. "I do realize the danger of being here, but I think I can take care of myself. I have some history from meeting that girl, but I'm here to keep the peace. Nothing more." he said to him. "Brave girl." Danny retorted, admiring her courage. "But I think this is a situation where we can all walk away without any harm coming to anyone." He said, looking from the fire making girl, to Niall (as he'd introduced himself), turning his head to face Effy "Except you. you're not leaving my sig-" He got hit square in the back by a bolt of electricity, falling on his front, throwing his jacket off, burning at the back, but he was still in one piece. "Rubber soles. Swear by them." He said, wriggling his feet, shielded by his favourite converse." He got himself up, albeit in some pain, he was able to get over it. He turned to face Effy, not taking his eyes from her. "By the principles of Babylonian Law, we're even now." He began. He believed anyone well read enough to recite Shakespeare would have knowledge of History. "Flamethrower!" He said, his eyes darting to the girl to his right; "If you want to help, fine. I can't stop you. Same to you.... Niall, right?" If he helps, this could turn messy. Too much electricity, and fire. "Stop using your power!" he snapped, finally thinking. "Let's think rational here. I'm not using my power, my weapons metaphorically on the floor. I'd apreciate the same curtosy." He said, looking to Niall especially, and then to Effy. Chances of them listening, slim. "I'm not looking for a fight, But as I said to him already-" he saidm pointing to Niall; "-I'm faster than you all. And your lightning." He finished looking directly at Effy. "Care to test me?" he said, with a smirk. ______________________________ Word Count: 337 (small, I know... but wanting to get this moving! ) Notes: Effy, or Niall, If either of you want to attempt an assault at Danny, I grant permission for you to godmod him dodging it through teleportation, as he's expecting an attack now.)

Katrina sighed. Could Effy just actually give up? For once? Instead of just thinking that she was the best at every single thing in the whole entire world? That was probably the only thing that Katrina was asking for at the moment. She watched her as she frowned. It was probably the skip to Act Three that had upset her. "The love I bear thee can afford no better term than this; thou art a villain." Katrina was tempted to roll her eyes at that, but didn't give it. If Effy thought that insulting her by calling her a 'villian' was going to work, she really needed to get a check up. She looked back to the apparent stop watch as she commented on her. "Brave girl." He said, before continuing. "But I think this is a situation where we can all walk away without any harm coming to anyone." Katrina would have objected at that point, saying that Effy literally, always went down with a fight. That was just the way she worked but before she could, Effy's voice rang out again with Tybalt's lines.
"Turn and draw!" Katrina directed her attention to Effy again from the time stopper. She was getting angry now, really angry and before Katrina could look at both at Effy and the man next to her, he fell over after a hit from one extremely large bolt. Katrina stepped back a few paces in shot, that had been unexpected but looking at the flames on his jacket, she concentrated on them. Her eyes went the usual scarlet red and on raising a hand, the fire died down into nothing, leaving a singed smoke through the air. She helped him get up, after he showed off his converses. *At least he has some style.* Katrina commented mentally. "By the principles of Babylonian Law, we're even now." She smiled at that. They had spent a whole double lesson on that, of course Katrina would know that.
Katrina almost jumped at his half outburst of saying "Flamethrower!" She moved her eyes to him in response. "If you want to help me, fine. I can't stop you. Same to you....Niall, right?" Katrina nodded but corrected him. "My name is Katrina, and yourself?" It seemed that his patience had actually snapped because he said, "Stop using your power!" Katrina looked from her own hand, to Niall, and then Effy. Her own power was currently un-used. She held her eyes on Effy for a moment before listening to the man next to her. "Let's think rational here. I'm not using my power, my weapons metaphorically on the floor. I'd appreciate the same courtesy." Staying silent, Katrina's mind buzzed at the fact that Effy would never play fair. That just wasn't how she played the game. It was win or lose, and she prefered to be on the winning side to be honest. Katrina watched him as he looked from Niall and then to Effy. "I'm not looking for a fight, but as I said to him already-" He pointed one hand at Niall, "-I'm faster than you all. And your lightning." The man was now looking at Effy only, and this made concern rise up in her. "Care to test me?"
There was a comfortable smirk on his face and finally, Katrina spoke up. "Not to be rude but...I'm not exactly sure that testing Effy would be a good idea." It was true, the first person or living thing that thought of testing Effy Taylor should have thought twice. As that crossed her mind, Katrina came into realization that that was probably herself. "She isn't even angry yet. If you get her more powered up, it'll only end worse that it already is" Katrina used her left hand to gesture towards the two corpses nearby. Two deaths was bad enough, and she had had the guts to kill a small child. Something was incredibly wrong with Miss Taylor. "Trust me, you don't want to get on her bad side." Katrina shifted her weight after speaking to him, her eyes moving from one person to another. If she were correct, Effy was going to take up his offer of testing. Effy had offered no clear reaction to Niall telling her his name, she had reacted rather badly to the other guy, the one who was full of himself dropping water on her hands, stopping her power for a couple of seconds. Even though he only knew her from the whole last of what must have been an odd five minutes, he could tell that probably was quite suicidal, even if he was fast, and had an power, which Niall wasn’t clever enough to figure out, or couldn’t pick up enough clues to even have so much as a guess as to what it was. It seemed to be something which made him pretty convinced he would be faster than everyone else, so Niall had to assume it would be superspeed or something. Either way, Niall would take him down, surprising someone that confident in themselves would be easy, and at the most all he would have seen from Niall would be Niall’s speed, and athletic enhancements, not his ‘extra’ part of his power, the energy blasts. It was like having an ace up his sleeve or something of that sort of idea. No-one expected it, and Niall could play it whenever he wanted to, without anyone being capable of stopping him. Effy was still talking in that crap style anyway, which was irritating him, if he hadn’t picked up on the amount of signs suggesting just how dangerous she was capable of being, he would be half tempted to turn on her, give her some abuse over it all. It hurt his brain to actually have to think about it all, who in their right mind would actually speak like that, in the normal world. Then he had to remind himself. This wasn’t the real world, or it was a world within a world, like a secret cult of different people, the difference with this one was that membership was chosen for you, whether you wanted it or not, deserved it or not, and from his mind he had decided that the older guy shouldn’t deserve his power, he wouldn’t use it properly, and was part of that stupid society of ‘robots’ where everyone looked out for each other, and followed the crap routines. Then something interesting happened, Effy, like Niall had predicted turned on the older guy, blasting him with her power. Niall didn’t even flinch watching him get hit, almost having to restrain himself from laughing at it. The idiot deserved everything which he got, for interfering with what had been going on, and looked like he was in pain. He seemed to be OK though, unfortunately. Maybe Niall should play his ace now, and blast him into the sky a little, shake him up a bit, that would prove to be amusing, but he decided to hide it for a little longer. The guy wanted them/Effy to stop using her power, Niall could tell that something like that wouldn’t happen, and a fight was getting more and more likely. Good. Niall would find it quite funny to take out one of these fools, or anyone who messed with him, the only thing which he wouldn’t do was strike without warning, and be unfair. Well actually he would, more he wouldn’t strike without a motive, yet. He had motives to strike these people, apart from currently Effy. She hadn’t annoyed him, and was like him in a way, albeit a bit more evil than he was. But either way, he would quite happily hurt either of the other two. ’Care to test me? The older guy said, Niall took a step, moving out of his eyeline, before triggering his own power, running at him, quite quickly. A violent air flooded through him, an urge to hurt this guy, who was completely full of himself, and to make him end up in any sort of pain. ”Boo.” He called out at him, hoping that there would be no chance of the guy being able to dodge him, or not before a collision. At the same time, he had heard the flame girl identify herself as ‘Katrina’ whatever. Niall simply didn’t care what her name was, but at least she wasn’t speaking out little bits of nonsense, like the other two had taken to. She did however seem to know a lot more about the Effy than he realised, they probably knew each other, and had met on a few occasions, something like that. Niall had no care for these petty squabblings anyway, they where just insignificant to him, when he was concentrating on hurting this other guy, who hadn’t made any effort to even identify himself. Maybe that was his ability, to piss Niall off, whether it was or wasn’t he was doing just that. And that was even more reason to hurt him.
Word Count: 805 Notes: Don't expect Niall to hit Danny, and if he doesn't, he'll just get even more annoyed with him

Rubber soled shoesies. Hahahaha, how non-interesting, thought Effy sarkily. She was expecting him to bend the lightning bolt back to her, or something snazzy like that, so on the whole, she was disappointed. The lightning bolt in his direction had been half out of revenge and half out of curiosity, to see how he would react, if his power and true side would be revealed. Alas, no luck. He was still as mysterious as he had been when he’d first come over and downright insulted Effy for exercising her ability. Ah, well. He wasn’t the issue anymore. Katrina had her primary focus, and Effy was damned if Katrina was going to leave her without a few scars to match Effy’s. In fact, sod that. If Katrina was going to leave here, it was going to be in a body bag. The same could be said for the water-thrower, if he pulled another stunt like that again. Little punk. Effy smiled internally, thinking about a random image she’d found on her computer a few days again. Yeah dude, I’m talking to you, Effy thought, trying not to giggle. Thou art a punk. Good thing there were no telepaths in the vicinity... or was there? Effy hoped not, for some of the things she’d been thinking about Katrina were less than pleasant. Rolling her eyes as this what should have been a battle of abilities was turning more and more into a battle of wits, Effy scowled as the water-thrower showed off his snazzy and only slightly singed Converse boots. "By the principles of Babylonian Law, we're even now." the water-thrower said, with an air of pompous delight in the intelligent words spewing from his mouth. Babylonian Law? Effy thought. That’s History, right? What a load of crap. It must have been History-related, because the water-thrower was smiling as Katrina nodded her head. Effy was bemused. English, French and Art were her subjects, and History was definitely one of Katrina’s, although she was pretty fantastic at everything. Scowling, Effy twiddled her hair as the water-thrower seemed to be irritating Katrina too. Effy smiled. So much for their little consort.
“Stop using your power!” the water-thrower half-screamed, which shocked Effy. His cool-as-a-cucumber bravado had vanished pretty quickly. "Let's think rational here. I'm not using my power, my weapons metaphorically on the floor. I'd appreciate the same courtesy." Effy rolled her eyes, like little brown marbles. Effy didn’t do rules or obedience. "I'm not looking for a fight, but as I said to him already, I'm faster than you all. And your lightning.” Okay, bragging much? Effy scowled her killer scowl as he turned the face her directly. "Care to test me?" Effy nearly laughed out loud. Evidently, he’d never heard the term ‘don’t rise to the bait!’, and Effy couldn’t help but smile as Katrina got involved. She was like a dog with a bone – she never knew when to stop talking and walk away.
"Not to be rude but...I'm not exactly sure that testing Effy would be a good idea. She isn't even angry yet. If you get her more powered up, it'll only end up worse than it already is.” piped up little Katrina. Such words of wisdom from one so young and irritating. Effy smiled, enjoying Katrina’s feeble attempts to try and protect the water-thrower from his little suicide mission. However, Effy merely stood there, feigning ignorance to the fact that Katrina was warning him against a little battle, waiting for both of their responses. In fact, the only person who hadn’t irritated her yet was McQueen, who at the minute, was also in favour; ie, not in her line of fire. Yet. Maybe he would be a good buddy useful tool to keep in mind for future situations. "Trust me, you don't want to get on her bad side." piped up Katrina again. When would she ever learn that Katrinas should be never seen and not heard? Her well hidden British accent was very grating on the ears after a while. Oh, whatever. It was all pointless anyway, and this conversation was getting duller and duller. Maybe Effy would take the water-thrower up on his offer. Couldn’t be any worse than listening to Katrina’s safety lectures anyway – and besides, if he could dodge lightning, Katrina might accidentally-on-purpose be in the firing line. Fun fun.
Effy lit up her hand again, very bright, enough to blind someone if they looked directly at the source of the light for more than a minute. However, she was going to humour the water-thrower, at least for a little while longer. Effy’s twisted games were much more interesting than a boring full-fledged attack. ”So, you want to try me, do you? Sounds like fun, Effy said, nodding slightly, and moulding the lightning ball to a round orb that she tossed between her hands, almost resembling a ball used for baseball or rounders. ”However, if you want to play, I’d like to know the name of my opponent. Fair’s fair, right? Tell me your name, and I’ll play a little game with you. Effy said, smiling coyly, her hand full of the pulsing electricity ball, and she moved into a position that a pitcher would in baseball. ”But if you don’t, I guess this game will turn a little nasty.”
Effy smiled. It didn’t exactly need spelling out.
