Five Stone Weyr was originally an abandoned Hold, founded by traders. They sought refuge, from Threadfall, in a group of caves and caverns in the side of a mountain. One lazy merchant left his caravan outside, at the mercy of the Thread. Hope was not lost though, for the goods in the caravan. A fair of domestic and wild fire-lizards, probably brought by domestic fire-lizards of some of the traders, winked out of between, and began to flame the Thread in the skies, aiming to protect the goods. Every color of fire-lizard was present, darting about like little rainbows in the air. Apart from a few scores that only slightly damaged some of the cargo, the goods were relatively left unharmed, and the wild fire-lizards flitted away to where they came from. Amazed, and with new-found respect for the smaller cousins of the dragons of Pern, a Stonesmith felt that proper recognition of the fire-lizards was required. He worked hard for the next few days to create statues of the little creatures. Five were created, one for each of the five colors of dragons. The Gold Statue was the largest, and in a regal pose, showing off the gold's leader ability over the other fire-lizards. The Bronze Statue was the second largest, and in an equally regal pose. Third largest was the Brown Statue, with a cool attitude, respecting his place in the rankings. The second smallest, the Blue Statue, depicts a submissive, yet still a bit defiant personality. The last and smallest statue, the Green Statue, is completely submissive to her's larger brothers and sister, and has an air of comfort about it. The five statues were set up around the main cave that was used for protection from the Thread, and respects were paid to them when they were passed. With the coming Turns, the path that went by the Hold was less and less traveled, until it was completely forgotten. However, a young bronze rider on a search for a Weyr to call his own, stumbled upon the statues, and after scoping out the caves, he believed that the caves would be perfect for his Weyr. He and a few other dragonriders made the move to this new Weyr, now called Five Stone Weyr, and began to make the place livable for more dragonriders and even Weyrfolk. It's been twenty Turns, and the Weyr has flourished into a large Weyr, welcoming all. It's location is nestled into the side of a range of mountains on the NorthWestern Half of Pern. There is but a single, large river that flows down, and out to the sea. There is hardly any level ground outside the Weyr. |
