Kyla sighed as she looked at her first wine flask of the night. Yet another man pursued her, but he never even looked into her eyes. Kyla sighed again. Raith who was almost asleep from the comfort of her Weyr commented on Kyla’s mood, “Kyla it will be ok. He wasn’t good enough for you. Don’t drown yourself in wine… again.” Kyla mentally glared at her sleepy green and took a sip of her wine. I’ll be fine, I can hold my liquor. Just be careful.

Kyla just shook her head and took a bigger sip of her wine flask. Looking up, Kyla narrowed her eyes and shook her head. Shards was that strong… Be… Oh hush… Kyla interrupted her ever concerned green of a dragon. Just go to sleep… Kyla said as she slumped over onto the table.

It was evening and evening meal was finished, but a few souls remained in the Kitchens and Dinning Hall to drink and chat. Kyla didn’t want to chat; she wanted to drink, but drinking was no fun alone. Deciding to go find someone to keep her company, Kyla stood up with a slight swagger and picked up the other three wine flasks she had at her table. She had two options, either to walk up to some random person and hope that they want to drink with her or to just call out to everyone and ask who wants a drink.

Choosing the latter, Kyla called out, “Hey! Anyone want a drink?” hoping someone would come over.

It was supposed to be a nice quiet day. It was supposed to be a day dedicated to relaxation. It was, in short, supposed to be a day in which C’ren did his very best to avoid other people. The last thing he wanted to deal with after Search was other people.

But Ceylith had other ideas. In the back of her mind, the Green knew that, if left to his own devices, Hers would end up depressing himself. Also, he’d just sleep. And how boring was that? Unfortunately, Ceylith was not very clever. She had, in many ways, all of the subtlety of a flying brick.

::Waaaaake uuuuuuuup!:: Mimicking the manner of small children everywhere, she drew out her words, as if that would make them more difficult to ignore. It didn’t work very well, honestly. The Green snorted and decided she’d have to raise the game a little.

If dragons could pout, Ceylith would’ve done so now. It was heavy in her thoughts, though. When pleading didn’t work, guilt occasionally could work wonders, she knew. But even that failed. When she next spoke, her voice was full of sullen menace. ::If you don’t go, I’ll… I’ll…:: She paused, not fully certain of what she could possibly do to Hers.

…No rush, my dear. I can wait for your coming retort. In the meantime, can I please get back to my nap? The tone in Ceylith’s voice didn’t worry C’ren; she couldn’t harm a fly. Well, actually, she could. But he wasn’t a fly.

::I’ll make this noise all day! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa….::

C’ren lasted approximately fifteen seconds before his will broke. Ok, fine, fine!! I’ll go be social…

~.~

Some time later, the Greenrider appeared in the Dining Hall, doing his very best to avoid attention. This wasn’t very successful, however, given Vox. Vox had, apparently, seen through the trick. Or he had just forgotten. One thing was for sure now: the fat flitt was not going to leave his human alone for very long and sat on C’ren’s shoulder like a fat sack of… well… firelizard. He burbled happily, soaking up any attention---and hopefully treats---that he could get.

And that was when C’ren heard his siren call. If he absolutely had to socialize, at least he wouldn’t have to be sober! But there had to be some sort of a catch. Somewhere. Beautiful women did not just randomly offer drinks.

Still. Free alcohol. Who was he to refuse?

“What kind of drink?” he asked suspiciously, as if darkly suspecting that the woman would try to slip him some water. Because, you never knew!

Kyla blinked twice when a man with light blonde hair approached her. She actually didn’t expect someone that fast, but hey, it’s not every day that there was free wine. “Actually I don’t know…” she said looking down at the flask she had in her hand, “I think it’s Benden, I got it on my last Search…” Kyla’s mind was a little fuzzy at the moment from the wine.

“Hmm. Well here you go,” Kyla said handing the man a flask of supposed Benden wine and sitting down immediately. Raith who was hearing all of this said to her rider, “Kyla, Don’t drink too much, please.” “I’ll be fine stop nagging…” Kyla said out loud to her dragon then taking another sip of her wine. Shards was it good! It must be Benden wine! Looking back at the man who she gave a flask to, Kyla smiled warmly in her drunken splendor and said, “You can have a seat… you know… please…”

Kyla was a little desperate to talk to someone or to listen to someone about anything; she just wanted her mind off what’s-his-face. See being drunk had it’s advantages, not remembering things. “Oh… I’m Kyla… rider of green Raith…” She said with a huff between each word.

Ah! Another Searchrider! Another person who would understand the woes of having to go into strange Holds all the time and the resistance that a Searchrider could encounter. Other riders assumed that it was a cushy job, the sort of dragonrider equivalent to changing glows. But noo! They had no idea how difficult it was to deal with whiny parents or, perhaps worse, violent ones.

In most places, an attractive woman speaking to thin air and holding several flasks of wine might have been viewed with suspicion or, even worse, open interest. At least, not the right type of interest. C’ren was more interested in the wine though. Benden wine? Really? That was enough to get his butt in the seat. If talking---or listening---got him some free Benden wine, he wasn’t going to complain. Yet. He wouldn’t do that unless she got into the weepy drunk stage. Or, Faranth forbid, the touchy-feely stage.

“I’m C’ren,” he said, reluctantly introducing himself. “Of Green Ceylith.” Every word sounded slightly clipped, as if each one had been carefully measured for the job.

::C’ren, mind you manners…:: Ceylith butted in, as she was wont to do whenever C’ren was off making a sad attempt at being social. ::Say ‘Thank you’ to the nice lady.::

Thank you, mother. Whatever would I do without you?

::Fail at having a social life even more?:: the question was probably rhetorical, but he did ask…

“So… Searchrider, I take it?” he asked, endeavoring to cover up Ceylith’s voice with his own. At least drinking helped. And it was very good wine. Unfortunately, Vox wanted a taste and kept trying to climb down C’ren’s arm. It was quite bothersome to keep the firelizard on his shoulder now.

It was either keep him there or try the old 'Pretend to throw something' routine.

“It’s nice to meet you C’ren.” Kyla said after he introduced himself. Another green rider, a male one at that, She personally didn’t care but she now probably didn’t have to worry about … unsupervised drunkness that much. “I’m going to sleep now… Please don’t drink too much.” Okay… Have a nice sleep… Kyla yawned, but took another sip of her wine.

Kyla nodded to C’ren’s question which made her brown hair fall in front of her face. Pushing some hair away with her free hand, Kyla began to speak, “Yes I am…” She didn’t mind being a Searchrider all that much, since she got to see Pern and see all the men that it held with her own eyes which was nice. Kyla sighed and continued, “On one of my most recent Searches, the one I got this wine at…,” Taking another sip, “Raith found some nice boys that seemed to be suitable for Weyr and dragonman life. But the eldest boy’s parents wanted none of it, they tried everything to keep their son at home. They gave me this wine to barter for their son…”

Kyla looked at her wine and then waited for a moment for Raith to interrupted her and tell her to cut it short, but Raith was sleeping, the poor dragon was up all day she needed the sleep. After realizing nothing was going to cut her off, Kyla continued her story, “It reminded me so much of my own parents and how they hated the idea of me becoming a dragonrider. Anyways, Despite their efforts, I had to take their son… ‘take’ that sound so mean… Nevermind, so I come back here and all, the two boys were completely terrified of between and excited to be at a Weyr. But when we land and the boys go off to the barracks, I realized I still had the wine the parents tried to barter with…”

Kyla stopped to see if C’ren was still listening or just ignoring her like a lot of people did when she started to explain something. But instead she saw a blue firelizard trying to drink the wine that C'ren held in his hand. She giggled and asked, "What's his name?"

Nope! Kyla definitely didn’t have to worry about unsupervised drunkenness. For one thing, Ceylith was keeping an eye on the riders, or at least on C’ren’s mind. She didn’t like it when he made his head hurt. Whenever he did that, he would become even more unpleasant than usual and then what would people think?

C’ren thought about that for a moment. So far, no one had tried to buy Candidates off of him. He wasn’t even aware that Candidates were a currency now. Then again, the way his own parents made them, they might as well be. “So, what you really mean is that the parents felt that their son was worth at least as much as this wine. This wine has the same value as a human being to his own parents.” If his parents had tried to buy him back with wine, he knew he would’ve been insulted. Hopefully the child would never find out about his parents attempts to buy him back.

He took another sip, more slowly this time and swished it around. Even after he swallowed it, he continued to analyze the mouthful carefully before speaking, “One would think that it would be a bit sourer. Consider yourself lucky that you got some wine and the kid. Whenever a parent takes issue with me taking their child away, I normally get a punch in the face.” And he was rather attached to his face, thank you very much! Kyla was also lucky to find any Candidates at all; C’ren had, so far, been a bit low on luck. That and Ceylith was very picky, even if she had a knack for picking out good ones.

“Well, right now his name is Nuisance,” he said in a slightly peeved tone, since Vox was not taking the hint. “He’s usually called Vox though. Voxy. Hey, lookit this hand, boy!” C’ren’s voice took on that special idiotic tone that people reserve for their dear pets. It went up roughly half an octave in a gratingly cheerful way that would probably insult anyone.

Except for Vox, who wasn’t bright enough to be insulted. The flit let out a chirp and looked at the indicated hand. The hand drew itself back and then forward in a throwing motion. “Go get it, Voxy!”

Instantly, the hunt was on! The blue firelizard tore off down the kitchen in hot pursuit of nothing.

“Don’t look at me that way,” C’ren said to Kyla although he was not aware whether or not she was actually looking at him in ‘That Way’. “Little deadglow woke me up earlier by biting my toes.”

[OOC|First official post with M’ris. Let’s see if I can get a better feel for his character. >_>]

Though he wanted to sleep, and probably should, M'ris couldn't. He was restless, and he didn't know why. Maybe just the events of the past sevendays. The hatching and Impression of the dragonets, and the lessons that were soon to arrive for them. But what was he worried about? He wasn't in charge of those weyrlings. He might be later, when they graduated and joined the Thread-fighting ranks. But for now, he wasn't going to bother himself with them. Instead, M'ris made his way to the kitchens. Grabbing a quick bite to eat would be nice--maybe some wine to help him sleep as well.

Not too much though, Regolith reprimanded him. The brown dragon was in their weyr, a bit sleepy, but up like his rider. Though he couldn't fit in the kitchens any longer, he could still dish out advice and unnecessary comments. You don't want a hangover in the morning.

Before M'ris stepped into the kitchens, a voice called out. Something about getting a drink. He didn't pay much attention to it. I think it's morning already, M'ris thought dryly. He ran his fingers through his hair as he entered the kitchens. It was warm--a nice change from the freezing cold that was outside, and the cool tunnels of the weyr. Even so.. Not many people were about. Most of the weyrfolk were sensible, and sleeping at this time. It was a pair of fellow riders that caught his eye. Judging by their shoulder knots, two green riders, and they were sharing a wine flask.

They were older than M'ris, he could tell, but not by much. Even so, he did outrank them.. He approached the two riders, the young woman had a nice physique, M'ris noticed, and the man was of a skinny build.. M'ris eyed the pair as they downed their drinks. He caught a few snippets of their conversation--Search and candidates, was it? M’ris cocked his head questionably as the greenrider, C’ren he thought that was, tossed an imaginary toy for the flit perched on his shoulder to chase after.

“You two haven’t had too much to drink, have you? You won’t be able to get up in the morning, and the weyr can’t afford to have riders sleeping in,” M’ris scolded with a stern glare on his face. Though Threadfall wasn’t due soon, the weyr needed riders ready. Riders needed to set a good example for the younger weyrlings, and candidates that were to Impress.

“I think that they were just desperate that’s all… Maybe he was a really good worker…” Kyla said looking at her wineskin. Kyla tried to find the good in everyone, and the parents seemed pretty simple. “Maybe I was wrong to take the boy… hmm…” Kyla thought out loud and then took a sip of her wine.

Kyla looked at the cute blue firelizard that C’ren called ‘Nuisance’. She smiled at his words; she never had a firelizard of her own but wanted one when she was younger. Her parent would have never allowed there daughter to have a dragon, firelizard or not. They didn’t want her even becoming a dragonrider. Kyla sighed at her memories, but watched as C’ren threw an imaginary stick or something and Vox chase it blindly. Kyla giggled as the blue flitt tried to find whatever was thrown.

Kyla looked at C’ren with a smirk on her face and laughed a little harder than necessary when C’ren said Vox bit his toes. Another man came up to them and asked if they had too much to drink. Kyla looked at the man and then at her wineskin. Maybe she did have too much to drink… Kyla just smiled at the brown rider, his shoulder knot telling her so, and asked, “Would you like a drink?” completely ignoring the second part of the serious brown rider’s question.

C’ren snorted at Kyla’s words, clearly doubting each and every one. “They still tried to buy their boy with wine.” Admittedly, it was very good wine and all, but still. A human life? For some wine? For the love of Faranth, people were dimglows. “If I ever tried to leave a possible Candidate behind, Ceylith wouldn’t give me a moment’s rest. Which actually isn’t all that different from now… but, she’d find ways to make things even worse.” She was a dragon of limited talents, but she could manage at least that, mostly by accosting everyone should could find and encouraging them to talk to C’ren.

If C’ren had just been relaxing around Kyla, he promptly clammed up again at the intrusion of someone else. One person was fine, so long as there was wine around. Two people… well, two people called for more wine. And the lecture did not help at all. Even on his best days, C’ren was a bitter bag of anger at younger riders who attempted to push him around. And this was not one of his better days.

“Thank you so much for your concern,” he said, in a voice dripping with sarcasm. It was a good thing that sarcasm didn’t have a corporeal form, otherwise it would have been sloshing all over the floor right about then. “I assure you, I can take care of myself. I can even lace up my boots and everything.”

:: Oh, C’ren! I have a better idea! Instead of getting stuck with nightwatch for the next week, how about you don’t start snapping at Brownriders? How’s that for a crazy idea?::

He started it!

::I don’t care who started it! Apologize now, or else I’ll come up with another threat!::

That worked. Well, barely… mostly, C’ren just didn’t want Ceylith to be upset. Still glaring at the Brownrider, the Greenrider eventually mumbled something along the lines of, “M’sorry… longnight.”
