I'm really not sure, although I did vote Personal.

I think that they should be sorted by what the character would call themself.

I'm a little confused between the last two options...

Personal Affiliation means that if you were a Patriot spy (which reminds me, there should be a Tory spy, huh? LOL!) you'd still be listed as a Tory? Unless you were an "open" Patriot? But private Affiliation means that you'd be defined by what you put in your profile or... I'm confusing myself, I think. tongue.gif

I do like sorting by what the character would call itself, but I do also like the fact that if you were meeting the character for the first time you would assume they were x affiliation, because that's what their family is.

I guess the main difference would be if there was a character that was openly against what their family was. Like if Mrs. Franklin came out and said, I'm a Tory. Then under option 2, Mrs. Franklin would be sorted as a Patriot, because it would be public knowledge. In that same instance, Will would still be listed as a Tory because everyone *thinks* he's a Tory. Same goes for Alexandra, though of course if she made her political affiliation public, she would be moved to Patriot group. Under option 3, Mrs. Franklin, Will, and Alex would all be listed as Patriots, regardless of public knowledge or not.

Make more sense?
