Cougars maintained there 100% league record by producing an encouraging performance against a wetherby side which never gave in, It was cougars who opened the scoring when Will Scattergood powered through the defence from close range, followed by a Peter Butterworth try who was sent through a gap after taking a pass from Sam huskins, good work from a cougars scrum in there own 20 sent blake tams free who had the pace to go the length of the field, then moments later a similar lenght of the field try was scored by Pete Butterworth. The visitors then scored with a well worked try but cougars positive attitude and effort paid off as Will Scattergood crashed over for his second try just before the break.
Cougars opened the second half strong as Sam King spotted the gap to scoot over from acting half, a well worked team try followed which was finished off by Tom Barth. From the returning kick off good work by the forwards brought crofton into the visitors half then a brilliant solo effort by Will Scattergood saw him see off several defenders and have the power to race 40 metres and score under the post, not happy with a 40 metre try the powerful prop then barged through the wetherby defence and race 50 metres to claim his 4th try of the afternoon from the kick restart. With ten minutes left of the match full back Blake Tams determination paid off as he had the power to go over from 20 yards out, The final try of the afternoon saw Pete Butterworth pick up a loose ball on his own line and race full length of the field to secure his hatrick of tries for the afternoon. Mathew Butterworth kicked brilliantly and managed to slot over 7 from 11 conversions most of the which wernt easy considering the afternoons strong winds. Man of the matches for crofton went to a well deserved Will Scattergood followed by Barth and Huskins. |
