Crofton finally got thier first home appearence of the season but the result didnt go to plan as after taking an early lead the Cougars let Middletons spoiling tactics put them off thier game and eventually fall to defeat.A bright start from the Cougars saw Davies cross following a Kirk Kick into the corner and with a couple of half chances missed Crofton looked like having a fruitful afternoon but the vistitors had other ideas as a thier props made good yards up field leading to a converted try.Crofton went back on the attack,Garbutt and Ridge went close but the hosts went behind as a wild pass was intercepted by the Middleton centre who raced the length of the pitch to score and when a high bomb was fluffed by Crofton the vistors took full advantage for another converted score.The highly charged game then boiled over as a fracas saw both teams loose a player to the bin and the refferee calling a brief halt to the game with visitor supporters encroaching the field .Crofton regrouped as Lamming and Swift linked to send Roberts over for a great try just before the break.From the restart Crofton charged forward,Morley and Sayer moved the Cougars upfield and from 10 yards out Woodcock spotted a gap to nip over from acting half.Trailing just 16-18 Crofton were right back in it but frustration in Middletons niggly play saw a couple of scuffles resulting in another player from each side in the bin and success in attacking Croftons right side saw a quick brace of tries putting the Visitors 26-18 in front.The flow of the game became more disjointed as yet another scuffle saw more players sent from the field and with Crofton down to 11 players the Visitors were able to create an overlap and score in the corner on 70 minutes put them in a winning position.Consolation for Crofton came in the way of a try to Duffy who backed up good work from Yates and Knowles to score by the posts.
