Played by: Apollo Collective

Character Name: Apollo

Type (mortal, God, demon etc.): God

Age: Ageless (he's a god, silly!)

Physical Features (at least two well-written sentences): Although he appears in many forms (as a dolphin, for instance), Apollo most often takes the shape of a beardless young man. Thin, graceful, and athletic, he is considered the epitomy of young masculinity (which is to say, he's pretty handsome). Being the god of the sun, he has a healthy complexion and light hair - the sort of complexion a human would have to spend a lot of time in the sun to cultivate.

Personality (at least two well-written sentences): Apollo tends to be rather aloof around mortals, for the most part removing himself from human affairs. (He is a fairly popular guy around Olymous, however.) He's a bit of an artiste and has an unfortunate penchant for unrequitted love - that rather nasty incident where Daphne turned into a laurel to escape him, for instance.

Loves: His twin sister, Artemis; (eventually?) his son, Asklepios, the god of healing; playing the lyre; composing poetry; athletic competitions; hunting; and mortals (from afar)

Hates: Getting involved with squabbling mortals, anyone who messes with Artemis

Background (fairly large paragraph): Apollo - who is, among other things, the god of the sun, music, and prophecy - is the son of Zeus and Leto. His twin sister is Artemis, the goddess of the moon. Destined for great things from birth, he killed the monster Python at only a few days of age. The place where he slew Python became known as Delphi. As the god of prophecy he communicates with mortals through the oracle at Delphi, also known as the Pythia. He is one of the most widely worshipped gods, although he is not known for playing a direct role in mortal affairs.

Sample Paragraph:
And Apollo saw through the Pythia's eyes. The room was filled with heady fumes - the smells of the drugs the oracle used to induce communion with him. Smoke curled up the dark marble pillars of the temple in opaque white tendrils, filling the entire room with an haze. Apollo felt nearsighted and deaf in the oracle's mortal body. The weeping of the young woman kneeling before the Pythia seemed muted, as if he heard her through a set of sturdy doors.

You will tell her what I have told you, he said to the Pythia. Don't think it is your job to interpret what I say, or to soften the blow. Simply tell her what I have told you, and do it now.

Played by: Apollo Collective

Character Name: Zeus

Type (mortal, God, demon etc.): God

Age: Ageless

Physical Features (at least two well-written sentences): Zeus appears to be a strikingly handsome man with reddish-brown hair and green-brown eyes. The fine wrinkles at the corners of his eyes and mouth make him look alternately rugged or venerable. He is tall and well-built.

Personality (at least two well-written sentences): Although he is best known for his many affairs, Zeus is also a strong leader and a brave warrior. He nearly always uses his power justly and tries especially to aid his many children. However, he lets his own desires cloud his judgement, and he often abuses his power in pursuit of women.

Loves: Beautiful women (goddesses, nymphes, he’s not picky ), power

Hates: When Hera becomes jealous of his mistresses, when Poseiden and Hades encroach on his domain

Background (fairly large paragraph): Zeus is the youngest child of the Titans Cronus and Rhea. It had been predicted that one of Chronus’ offspring would overthrow him, so Cronus ate eat of Zeus’ older siblings: Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, and Demeter. However, Rhea hid Zeus when he was born, so Zeus lived to eventually defeat Cronus, fulfilling the prophecy and rescuing his siblings. He divided the universe up with his brothers: Hades became ruler of the underworld, and Poseidon became the ruler of the sea. Zeus became the supreme ruler of Mount Olympus and the earth. He is married to his sister, Hera, and has numerous offspring (by her and other women), including the heroes Heracles (Hercules) and Perseus.

Played by: Hephaestus Collective

Character Name: Hephaestus
Type: God of Fire
Age: N/A
Physical Features: Hephaestus is usually shown as an animated cripple bent over his anvil. He wears a beard and is normally depicted as being ugly, and in some art forms he walks with the aid of a stick. He is described as ugly and had been rejected because of his ugliness in the past.
Personality: He loves his work and is kind to everybody as he wants people to be kind to him after his bad upbrining. He tries hard but things seem to go wrong for him a lot. He is quite sensitive about his ugliness and disability.
Loves: his work, Aphrodite but he doesn't show it because he wants to catch her out because he believes that she is unfaithful.
Hates: being made fun of (how else can I put it?!) because of his disability and ugliness.
Background: His mother was Hera but he was rejected as he was so deformed at birth.Hera, mortified to have brought forth such grotesque offspring, promptly threw him from Mount Olympus. He fell many days and nights and landed in the Ocean where he was brought up by the Oceanids Thetis and Eurynome. To gain revenge from Hera, Hephaestus created a magical golden throne which, when she sat on it, didn't allow her to leave it. He was married to Aphrodite but as he suspected that she was being unfaithful, he set a trap so that a net would cover Aphrodite and Ares while they were naked and in each others arms.

Sample RP paragraph??
Do I need to put this in, because it was a link to a topic on the other forum, and that is kind of not going to be there in a while. lol I didn't think I needed to put it up, since the character has already been approved.

haracter Name: Eros

Type: God

Age: Immortal

Physical Features: Eros' appearance is that of a young, beautiful man, with sunkissed hair and alabaster skin that has tanned lightly across his cheeks. He is rarely seen without his quiver and, whether or not he does carry it, is often smiling. His blue eyes contain a certain glint of mischief that tires all the Gods but his own mother.

Personality: Though Eros is often cruel to the victims of his arrows, this is predominantly because most Gods are. He is charming and can be surprisingly sweet, and at rare moments will sympathise with the hearts he pierces - especially those of women. He obeys his mother without question but is sometimes resentful of her authority and will silently rebel. He enjoys pranking the other Gods and, in this respect, gets on very well with Hermes.

Loves: Thinking up devious matches for his victims, plotting with his mother, mingling with mortals, pranking the Gods.

Hates: Being punished by Aphrodite, feeling remorse, seeing his matches crumble.

Background: Eros, being Aphrodite's son, has been subjected to a fair amount of mockery due to the ambiguity of his parenthood. Though the Gods are relatively certain that he was born of Ares, this does not stop them from using this ambiguity to tease both him and Aphrodite, and it was mainly because of this that Eros began to meddle with them as well as with the lives of mortals. Another reason was boredom - Gods live for so very long with relatively so very little to do - which has also driven him to think up some of the most unlikely matches in the world with Aphrodite. Perhaps one he regrets is that of Helen and Paris, because Athena became unbearable for twenty years and constantly tried to monitor his exploits, but otherwise he is fairly happy with the history of his arrows.

Sample paragraph:
It was at times like these that Eros hated Apollo. There was nothing wrong with being cruel and reckless, of course - life would be so dull if you couldn't be cruel and reckless - but what in Olympus could he have meant by making the sun set that soon in the afternoon? Mortals scattered everywhere, panicking, raising prayers to the heavens above the sound of quickening footfalls to beg the Gods to forgive them for their oversights. Idiots. If the Gods were angry with them, they'd come up with something alot more imaginative than an extra two hours of dark.

He walked along, a God among mortals even if he had not been, because his beautiful face and the rise of his muscles made even the actors look like mousey virgins and the athletes like tubs of lard. Sometimes one of the mortals would look at him, confused, and he would affect some sort of expresson - panic, or piety - so as not to look too suspicious. He wasn't here to mingle, though he dearly would have liked to. He was here to pierce a heart.

There she was, standing in her doorway, clutching that ridiculous piece of weaving that had gotten her into this mess in the first place. There is something very stupid about comparing your daughter's skill to that of Aphrodite. There is something very stupid about comparing your daughter to Aphrodite at all, but too late for that. With a sigh, Eros pulled out an arrow that the mortals could not see, strung it carefully through his equally invisible bow, and shot it straight through the mortal's quivering heart. Then he pulled out a lead one and waited calmly for her eyes to fall upon the man - or beast - who would be the object of her love.

Played by: Nemesis

Character Name: Nemesis
Type (mortal, God, demon etc.): Goddess (of Justice and Retribution)
Age: Ageless
Physical Features (at least two well-written sentences): Tall and slender, with an aura of wiry strength, Nemesis has long unruly silvery/white-blonde hair that reaches her slender waist when unbound, with two black streaks framing her face. Depending on the situation, sometimes it’s wholly silver or wholly black. Her eyes are very wide and the irises are silvery pale. She has large white and silver feathered wings, which she can hide (make invisible and insubstantial) at will.
Personality (at least two well-written sentences): Implacable and bound by an inherent sense of honour, Nemesis has extraordinarily strong emotions. Those she favours she will stand by until the end of time, but if someone makes her their enemy, she will feel incredible enmity towards them. She doesn’t forgive easily, but if she thinks she can trust you, she’d lay down her life for you. She’s somewhat reclusive and distrustful ever since the birth of her only daughter, Helen.
Loves: Those who are loyal, unselfishness, her daughter, peace
Hates: Liars, oath-breakers, thieves and criminals, Zeus
Background (fairly large paragraph): [I can’t find much on Nemesis, so I’ll be improvising a bit ^^;;] "Baneful Night bore Nemesis, too, a woe for mortals..." Daughter of Nyx, Goddess of Night, Nemesis and her siblings – including the Fates, Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos, and the Keres – were generally feared for their power to wreak dreadful retribution on mortals and indeed, many immortals – especially Nemesis, as her role as Goddess of Retribution.
One of Nemesis’ more infamous roles was as one of Zeus’s many paramours. Zeus became smitten with Nemesis, and though she wanted nothing to do with him, pursued her affections relentlessly. Finally Nemesis tried to escape by changing herself into different animals and fish as she fled.
She was in the shape of a goose when Zeus, in swan form, caught up with her. Later, their daughter Helen (of Troy) was born from an egg. Now she is generally distrustful of most of the gods, especially Zeus. She’s a solitary creature, but she chooses to do so for her safety rather than her real wants.

Played by: Selene

Character Name: Selene ("Moon") Also called Mene ("Moon", "Month")

Type: God

Age: Ageless (God)

Physical Features: Selene's skin is a milky white shade. Her hair was dark as night itself, curling luxuriously and waving halfway down her back. On her head, there is a golden crown that radiates a gentle, but dark light. In the light, which she rarely reveals herself in, her eyes are a dark, alluring deep sea shade of saphire blue. In the night, they are deep and dark, like blackholes in space. They catch the light of the moon, and reflect beautifully against the darkness. She may be petite, but she is also tall, and elegant. She has beautiful wings, that resemble a crow, and can easily fold down to her back. Her robes are willowy, loose, comfortable, and usually dark. Sometimes, she wears black cloaks to cover her head.

Personality: Very dark, mysterious, and more of a keep-to-herself sort of goddess. She enjoys the moonlight reflecting on the inky black sea at night. She despises the light, and winces as it touches her pale skin. Selene can be merciful, and kind when she feels the mortal is worth it. Other times, she can have serious mood swings, making her into a quick tempered, begrudging, angry goddess that will kill on sight. Selene is romantic, and has had many loves in her life.

Loves: The night, the moon, crows, the sea.

Hates: The day, the sun, doves, the color yellow.
Quote: "I look down on Earth everyday, seeing it whole and beautiful."

Background: Selene is the daughter of Hyperion and Theia. She is the sister of Helius (the Sun), and Eos (the Dawn). During her lifetieme, Selene had several lovers. One of which was Pan, who took the form of a white ram. They had three children, Pandia, Erse, and Nemea. One of her more famous loves was a mortal shepherd, Endymion. He was given immortality, and eternal youth, by Zeus, on condition he was to remain eternally asleep. Some say that Selene herself requested him to remain asleep, so that no other could have him. She would visit him each night, and it is said that she had fifty dollars by him. Although no one knew it, Helius and Eos never got along very well with Selene. They have had many disputes, and eventually, they have cut off contact totally. Endymion one day had mysteriously vanished, and since then, she has been going into jealous rages against loving couples, and easily angered. She cries every night for her lost love.

EXAMPLE:
Selene lifted her head to the night sky, the stars dappling the inky blackness. The waters reflected the wavering moon, and her milky white face stared back at her. Selene swiped her hand across the water, and turned swiftly to the night. "When I die, I shalt not be lonely."
She clenched her fist in the night air, and let out a sob. "Endymion. My love. Someday...I will find you."
Selene growled, and her wings unfolded behind her. She shrugged her cloak off, and draped it across her shoulder. "I will not live like this any longer. No, never again shall I spend my nights weeping over a lost man."
As if step stones appeared infront of her, she lifted off into the night, the moon seemingly closer everytime she blinked. As she melted into darkness, a passing man trembled. The poor man dropped his fruit as he looked at the sky, and ran to the lake. His hands clenched in prayer, and he uttered a few chants. Finally, with tears in his eyes, he looked at the moon, and felt a tear come to his eye. "By the gods."
He stood, and turned. When he began walking, he stumbled upon a small amulet. In the shape of the lunar moon. Clenching it to his heart, the poor man cried his way back to his 'home', figuring his food probably had dissappeared or had been eaten by another by now. When he walked into his poor little shack, he blinked twice. Across the one room home was a banquet settled out, fit for a king. He did not question the god's wills, but before he started to dine, he knelt, and, clutching the amulet inbetween his hands, prayed to the gods.

Played by: Athena

Character Name: Athena goddess of wisdom, knowledge, the arts, industry, justice, and skill
Type: God
Age: A younger god. She appears to be in her early twenties.

Physical Features: Athena has cold, sharp, grey eyes and a perfectly straight nose. She has long brown, curly hair that fall in little ringlets down her back. She has an athletic figure with broad shoulders and an hourglass figure. She normally has a cold, reasoning look but when she smiles, she can be very pretty.
Personality: Athena has a sharp tongue and has a terrible temper, that when provoked could cause a mortal to be turned into a spider. She can come across as haughty though she is her father's favorite daughter and can be quite sweet.

Loves: Her family and her father. She loves knowledge and wisdom. She also loves her mortal men that she favores. She loves peace, though she would go to war for just causes. She loves and stands behind the artists of Greece and she protects Athens. She is proud of her skills at the loom.
Hates: When mortals think they are better than her. Unjust wars.

Background: Athena's mother was Metis, goddess of prudence and the first wife of Zeus, and her father was Zeus himself. Zeus had depended on Metis for her wise council, but Mother Earth warned him that if Metis bore him a son, that son would overthrow him. Afraid of this, Zeus decided he had to swallow Metis. To do this he proposed to play a game with her, a shapeshifting game. Each of them turned into animals, big and small. Finally Metis turned into a fly and Zeus was able to swallow her.

As it happened, Metis was pregnant with a girl. She sat patiently in his head, hammering out a helmet and weaving a splendid robe for the coming child. Zeus suffered from headaches and was constantly crying out in agony. Finally, Heohaestus split open his father's head and out sprang the fully grown Athena wearing her robe and helmet, her grey eyes flashing.

Sample RP: Athena sighed as she slowly donned the disguise of n old woman. How could a young mortal girl claim she was a better weaver than she? It was an insult to the great goddess. She walked down the streets of Athens, her crooked walking stick making a dull thum on the dirt path. The only thing that could give her away were her grey eyes that stared out from under the hood of her robe.

Arachne was a simple country girl, but she was wonderfully skilled at the loom. Proudly she had claimed that she was better at the loom than the great Athena herself. She boasted that she hadn't learned a thing from the goddess. As she boasted to the crowd, she didn't notice an old woman at the edge of the crowd.

"Indeed your work is lovely, but why should you compare yourself to the gods. Your are indeed the best among the mortals," the old woman said, her voice quieting the men and women around her. Arachne turned to face the woman, her head held high.

"I am as good as the goddess Athena, and perhaps even better. Let Athena come down and measure her skill against mine," Arachne retorted.

Infuriated, Athena threw off her disguise and stood tall and proud, her bright helmet gleaming, a foot taller than a normal mortal. "Stupid girl, I will grant your wish. Sit down at your loom and let us compare your work to mine."

Played by: Eris Collective

Character Name: Eris
Type: Goddess (Chaos)
Age: Immortal – appears to be in her early twenties

Physical Features: Eris has dark hair that is usually loose and falls straight, and dark red lips that are often set in a disdainful line. She is beautiful in a dangerous way, with angular features and alluring curves. Her green eyes are often full of contempt and her face is almost permanently set in a mask of boredom, and her voice is monotonous and superior. She is the epitome of aloof. However, when she is sowing discord her appearance can change entirely; her hair floats around her dramatically, her mouth curves into a sarcastic smirk and her voice becomes simultaneously playful and deadly. Her laugh, on the very rare occasions it is heard, is light and merry – but, like a lullaby or child’s song, has an underlying eeriness when due attention is paid.

Personality: Eris thinks herself of a higher intelligence than most of the other Gods, and finds their day-to-day lives of no interest at all. She loves to debate but can rarely find a “worthy opponent;” someone who has a completely different view and is prepared to argue it out. The mood she most often falls into is boredom, and eternity seems tedious and unexciting to her. She envies mortals, and holds the philosophy that they have more scandal in their (at most) 100 years than she will have in forever. Her jealousy is caused by her own lack of heart-wrenching emotions, and the things others do for feelings intrigue her, although she feels slighted that she cannot feel the same. She is also entertained by the intense emotions, and enjoys provoking them to greater heights and depths, living vicariously. Contrary to popular belief, the chaos that tends to follow her is not always harmful (although she does take a sadistic delight in negative emotions), but her reputation causes immortals to dislike her almost more than the mortals (her condescending attitude can’t help much). Misunderstood and ostracised, she in fact delights in causing discord amongst the Gods even more than on the mortal world. She also has a very short attention span, and will often waltz in, turn the world on its head and move on to some new distraction without even waiting to see the turmoil she left behind.

Loves: entertainment, debating, apples (even Goddesses like to eat, and she happens to enjoy fruit), emotions, originality

Hates: boredom, stupid people (the top of this list happens to be Zeus), being ignored, predictability, most of the population of the universe

Background: She is the sister of Ares, but as most of Olympus is interrelated, this has no major role in her personality. She has always been impossible to keep interested in one person for too long: she will either drive them away with her constant contradictions or abandon them for something more entertaining. She used to try to fall in love with mortals, jealous of all the tragedies that kept other deities distracted for a hell of a long time, but then (after failing miserably in finding someone interesting) tired of the search and instead took a bitter pleasure in all the sorrow that she could cause with uncanny ease.

RP Sample:
It was a day like any other. The sun was lazily climbing the sky, casting shadows of green across the cool waters of the lake. Trees arched into the sky, stretching their limbs and almost seeming to yawn with the gentle stillness of the lethargic summer days. Eris frowned at the scene, her hands on her hips as she surveyed the utter tedium of it all. She stalked to the water’s edge and crouched down, scowling down at her reflection, examining what she saw with a sceptical eye. A movement on the opposite shore caught her eye, and her head whipped up – no animal would dare to disturb her, and the very trees seemed to fear her arbitrary wrath. She scanned the tree line, trying to catch sight of whoever had been bold – or stupid – enough to draw her attention, and managed to glimpse the fading white of cloth. Her mouth curved upwards into a distinctly disturbing smirk, and the shadows around her grew sharper, the slight breeze that had picked up colder and the light slightly darker. Her hand reached down and her finger calmly and gently prodded at the water’s surface. Ripples bounded outwards, each trying to out-do the others, and they grew larger and larger, quickly reaching the far distant shore, weak and tired, fading into nothing. It was almost impossible to believe that the sudden disturbance across the previously motionless silver had been caused by nothing less than the gentle touch of a finger. The Goddess stood.
