Music is My Love
If music be the food of love, play on,
Give me excess of it; that surfeiting,
The appetite may sicken, and so die.
Your first year out of the house is always a well awaited one, albeit a bit scary. It's strange not having your parents around but the freedom you get is wonderful... at least, most of the time. Five young adults, all interconnected, have recently bought their own apartment. Close to the centre of town and their university it's in the perfect location, if not a bit small. Each one finds their own problems with being out on their own though. Having lived together for four months, New Years has rolled around. It is ten minutes until the new year when a knock on the door is heard. One moves towards the door, oblivious to the fact that when it is opened all their lives will change forever.

Character Profiles
Rhyn Ackland
18 Years Old
Male
Straight
Rhyn has dark brown, almost black hair that falls in gentle curls around his face. With a bit of a fringe, his hair is constantly falling into his eyes, obscuring his view. This doesn't bother him though. His face shape is angular, constant with his body, and he has a very defined chin. Quite a tall man, Rhyn stands at just above 6'. He's not a very muscular guy but he's not thin and lanky. He's on the skinnier side but his body fat and muscles are just spread out over his height. His body is very sharp and angular. Rhyn has soft, almond shaped blue eyes framed with long black lashes.
Rhyn is a funny guy. He finds the little things in life, those familiar things and points out how silly and trivial they are. He likes to share his findings with others and loves seeing people laugh. He constantly performs, trying to keep those around him amused. He becomes terribly awkward when people aren't smiling and feels it's his job to entertain them. In this way he spends his life performing for those around him. He does have a knack for making people smile though.

{I'm going to powerplay/godmode a bit because there's no one else in this thread yet...}
Drip, drip, drip... the noise was slightly annoying and so Rhyn rose from his place on the couch and walked towards the kitchen. He hated it when they let the tap go. His friend's voices were raised in amicable chatter behind him and he smiled, leaning on the counter and turning back to look at them. They were so happy, so blissful on this night where nothing else mattered except the bonds they had created. He smiled, watching his girlfriend pelt their other friends with popcorn. Smirking, he opened the faucet, letting the water run for a few moments before turning it off tightly. Once that was done he turned back and walked back into the living room.
"You guys..." he smirked, lifting his hand and squirting water from the small water pistol at them. They squealed, his girlfriend especially as he aimed at her. She laughed, wriggling away from him. Once the water was empty he flopped back down onto the couch, half sitting on her. She laughed more, pushing him off.
"Gosh Rhyn, you need to lose some weight!" she called jokingly and he stuck out his tongue at her, snuggling up to her in the seat beside her. The couch wasn't necessarily the most beautiful thing in the world. 'An old chesterfield', it was called when Rhyn's uncle gave it to them to move into the flat. It matched the rest of the mismatched furniture in it's unique hand-me-down sense. The walls were a vibrant red colour, which was a good contrast to the darker atmosphere in the apartment. It was a small place, over top a Chinese restaurant in the heart of the city. It was quite dingy when they first got it but in the last few months with their shared work the five had turned it around.
Rhyn was looking around them when his attention was turned back to the rest of the group. "Twenty minutes until midnight! God guys, we better get ready!" Everyone began to clamour about, getting champagne glasses and everything else that was deemed essential to ring in the New Year.

\\ooc\\ I'd like to be Girl 2 Would I also be a musician or no?
I'm tweaking an old character...who *was* fifteen. Heh
Name : Isabel Brynn Kimura Age : 18 DOB : 10 July 1990 Hair: Glossy Black, Shorter in back than in front--the front is about mid-neck-length and the back is chin-length. Reverse bob?
She's about five and a half feet tall, and slim but muscular. Her eyes are a scary icy blue color that she uses to her advantage. She's half-asian, half-white, and totally beautiful but totally insecure. She likes the color indigo, classical and rock music, and science fiction/fantasy books. She used to be a big reader until she discovered the magic of coding in sixth grade. Sarcastic at times, very caring usually. She hides any fear she has with sarcasm. Likes stickers, iPods and sketching. Loves chocolate, math and music. Hates skirts, idiots, and her parents. Her music is her obsession. She constantly uses a pen or whatever as a clarinet and fingers out songs she's memorized. Has an amazing memory for music and as such, can memorize any piece of music. She laughs her mistakes off on the outside, but inside she's mad at herself. Perfectionism isn't always good. She laughs a lot, and although she's pretty on the outside she considers herself a horrible person because she makes 'too many mistakes'. Again, ISABEL IS A PERFECTIONIST TO THE EXTREME. Likes to stay up late and sleep until noon. Hated school because she thought of everyone else as being below her. Could have probably taught all the math classes--she's a mathematical genius as well as musical. Also can code computers and does so until two in the morning most nights.. Her parents want her to be "normal" but Isabel refuses to act the way they want. She planned to move out early, and has been happy ever since she left home on her eighteenth birthday. Has also written eight pieces of music--all for clarinet. Enjoys painting mini-scenes on her toenails with nail polish when the 'net's down. Hey, a girl's gotta do SOMETHING when she's bored and without computer access. Taught herself HTML and CSS at age 11, Java age 13 C++ age 16, C# since age 15, and taught herself PERL for the hell of it at age 14. Logic comes easily to her....obviously. Swears under her breath in Chinese when something doesn't go right or if her computer crashes. She's got a very bad temper. But everyone has their flaws--hers are her temper and inability to socialize normally with anyone her age. She also wears jeans and a T-shirt every day. Usually they've nerdy sayings on them-- "Easy as 3.141592...", "RIP Pluto--Revolve in Peace, 1939-2006", etc. She graduated first in her class. AP Calculus pays off, you know? Speaks English, French and German (in order of how long she's known each) and is native speaker of English. Swears in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, *and* Russian. But only because she looked the words up.

Name: Alaska "Ally" Juliette Carson Age: 18 Lovely Years Young. =) May 21st, 1990 Gender: Femme Personality: Oh, trust me. This will be blatantly obvious. Appearance: Alaska was born with icy blue eyes and blonde curls. However, Ally hates being blonde, all the jokes, and all the blonde musicians already out there. At sixteen, she dyed her hair black, and kept it up, too However, about a year ago she was told she was cuter blonde, and so she just gave up trying to impress everyone. Alaksa has a pale-ish skintone, but if she'd just bother to go OUTSIDE to write her tabs, then maybe the girl would be back to her tan complexion. Fun Facts: Alaksa is nicknamed ALLY, JULIETTE, JULIE, JULES, and LASKA. Ally's "real" name is Juliette Elizabeth Carson. On her eighteenth birthday she had it legally changed. Alaska has an acoustic guitar, full size, in a deep blue. It's name is Elizabeth May, who she calls Beth for short, named in honor of her old middle name. Alaska is bi-curious. Ally has been smoking cancer sticks since the eighth grade. Ally is considering dipping into heroin a bit. Just to see how it feels.

Isabel quietly watches Rhyn, wishing she was his girlfriend. God, how I wish I was the one kissing her. Dammit! Not again. I need to stop these stupid fantasies. I know they're never going to happen...so why do I torture myself with them anyway? Maybe I should... Her silent reverie is interrupted by Rhyn calling out, "Twenty minutes until midnight! God guys, we better get ready!" She half-smiles and starts making it look like she's busy pouring champagne into the glasses handed her. The party had settled down a bit, but she still felt a bit of the residual energy from the crazy start. The best part about tonight, she thought, is that nobody's drunk yet. The drug of choice tonight was memories shared with others...the best of times to laugh about, and the best of times to cry over. Finding out that indeed, she was over him, even after disbelieving Grandma for months. The end of high school. God, that seems so long ago. "Isabel!" someone calls. "Yeah?" she calls back. "Someone's knocked at the door. Wanna get it?" "Sure, I'm not doing anything useful." Isabel quietly sets down the bottle of champagne and grabs a glass. She moves through the party, playfully calling out, "Champagne's ready, but don't you dare drink until midnight!" Someone grabs her hair. "Hey, no touchin' the hair! It took twenty seconds to brush it this morning!" She squeezes through the people in front of the door, and opens it.

Alaska sat on the floor, tuning Elizabeth May back to standard tuning. "God damn," she mumbled, trying to hear the acoustic over Rhyn having an anneyrism over the tap and Isabel shouting about champagne. "Can't hear a fucking note."
She leaned over, blonde hair falling from behind her ear back into her face. She moved her arm to brush it back, but not before taking the moment to have her own little reverie.
"Juliette Elizabeth!" her mom called from the bathroom. The blonde girl, eleven years old, rushed over in her gold and white cheerleading outfit. She was on her way to a meet. Her mother stood over the ivory colored marble counter, the maple wood cabnet door open, holding a bottle.
"Uh oh," Juliette mumbled, biting her fingernails, which had gold nail polish.
The bottle was full of a sluggish black liquid, like oil, and was labeled, "Hot Topic; Graveyard Black Permanent Hair Dye". Julie's mother shook the bottle, raising her eyesbrows in an acusatory manner.
"Well, hun? Wanna explain before I drive you pretty little blonde head up to Casa Valley?" She slammed the bottle down on the counter. Juliette started to feel tears welling up in her eyes.
"I didn't use it!" she protested.
"Doesn't matter, Jules." Her mother rubbed her temple from frustration, then continued her tyrade. "When on God's green earth did you go to such a sinfull store? Hot Topic? Really, Juliette?"
"Mom!" cried the blonde. "Don't force this on me now!"
"What, God?" her mother asked. The eleven year old Julie nodded her head, tears streaming their way down her tan cheeks. "I shouldn't have to force faith onto you, Julie. It should have already been a part of you."
"Mom! 'A part of me'? Really!?" Juliette argued. She screamed, stomping down a white sneaker before storming out of the bathroom and grabbing a coat.
"Young lady, where the hell are you going?" her mother screamed after her.
"I'm gonna FUCKING walk to the meet!" Julie shouted back, putting dramatic pauses before and after her curse word. With that, she smirked in spite of herself and slammed shut the door.
Ally shook her head. Now wasn't the time for memories. It was the time for a cigarette. For more drinking. For her to find her tuner.
The blonde stood, dusting her skinnyy jeans and walked to the kitchen. Just to mess with him, all in good nature of course, Alaska pushed up on the tap handle slightly. Grabbing her tuner off one of the cabnet shelves she tuned Beth real quick, then looked back to the main room.
Everyone was so happy and light. Like they didn't care that it was almost a new year. Well, truth be told, neither did Ally. But there was this gut feeling she had that something... big was going to happen. And soon.
She walked back into the main room, plucking a palm-mutted D string in the 9th fret, then down to 5 for a bit, back to 9, then 7, 4, 5, 4, and back up to 5. Fingering a D chord, still palm muted, she mumbled the lyrics. "Hey, don't write yourself off yet..."
She looked to the door, still mumbling lyrics. There was Isabel, with her cute little bob of raven-black hair, and her amazing blue eyes. Reminded Ally of her own.
It was then Alaskastarted back into her train of thought she had earlier. What was going on with her, and why was she thinking about girls this way? True, when she was fourteen she got really close and friendly with her buddies, and yeah they higged and kissed cheeks and the like, but was she seriously a lesbian now?
No.. No, maybe just bi? Alaska thought. Bi-curious?

"Damn, someone go get the door!" Ally shouted out. Wasn't Isabel going to get it? What ever happened to that? "It's a fuckin' party in here, shame to leave someone out of it, eh?" she asked, a smile creeping onto her face.
Grabbing the capo from her left pocket, Alaska pushed it closed around the second fret of Elizabeth May's neck. Holding her fingers in a D chord, she softly played on the four higher strings. Swaying to the 6/8 time, she followed the progression.
"There's no one in towwn, and I know... You gave us someplace to go... I never said thank you for that... Thought I might get one more chance..."

Name: Dakota Adair Age: 18...almost 19! Birthday: January 1, 1990 Dakota's your average, chill, college guy. Growing up in the Rocky Mountains for first 18 years of his life, he learned to snowboard, and has gotten pretty good at it. If it wasn't for him going off to college, he would have stayed, taken the sponsor's offers, and made a profession of it. But he decided he would have had a better career somewhere else. Of what? He hadn't declared his major yet. He's hard and chiselled on the outside, and soft and sweet on the inside. His personality changes with the situation he is in, easily making himself fit in with the crowd. At times, he can be laid back and chill, or a goofball with his friends, to a rocker when he's playin his drumset or his royal blue PRS electric guitar. Dakota isn't necessarily considered a pretty boy. He stands about 5'11 inches, and has a muscular build on him, but not overly done. He sometimes tends to have a grizzly face, part of the fact that he hates shaving, and his 5 o'clock shadow often appears. He usually wears his beanie all the time, regardless of what he's doing. His attire spands from rocker/band shirts and jeans, to cargo pants and hoodies. He also just recently started smoking during the summer before he moved to college.

"Hey hey hey! Not at my guitar!" Dakota laughed, as he tried to shield his guitar from the oncoming water attack from Rhyn. He had been busy for the past half an hour busting out riffs in Drop C tuning, giving the party some music to listen to. His amp was turned up loud enough so everyone could hear, but not so loud as they would get in trouble.
Sitting on the arm of the couch, he strummed his guitar, a low chord reverberated through the amplifier, not allowed to echo because of the people within the apartment. "Yes! Champagne!" he exclaimed, as Rhyn shouted only 20 minutes left. He unstrapped his guitar, and left it on the couch, and ran into the kitchen. He wrestled a bottle of the clear liquid out of the arms of one of his friends, laughing, he ran back to his spot.
Setting the bottle down next to him, he restrapped his guitar. Dakota reached into his pocket to find his pick again, as he looked around the room he spotted Alaska. She looked great tonight, as always, and her guitar definately added to that attractiveness.
"He-" Dakota started saying, throwing his voice towards her, but quickly stopped. What if he said the wrong thing and screwed everything up? True he had known her for four months, but he hadn't been able to say anything to her about how he liked her since day one.
He pulled the pick out of his pocket, and strummed it against the strings of the PRS. "God, why can't girls be like music..." he mumbled as he started playing a song he had learned a week ago.

Ally looked up at the sudden stop of Dakota's guitar.
"Oh, c'mon, love. Music, it shall not stop! Ever!" She smiled, still strumming her own acoustic, playing more for herself than the five of them. It was like ginger ale for a stomache ache; It doesn't really do anything to physically help you, put it's puts you at ease. Makes you feel mentally better.
He's a cute kid. Well, he's not really a kid anymore, is he? And I supose I'm not either...
When he started his greeting to her, Alaska looked up, but then Dakota cut short. Tilting her head in slight confusion, she kept her senses alert. That's what growing up with a super-religious-freak of a mom will do for you; Make you aware of surroundings, make you alert for what's going on around you.
At his comment, Ally gave a small laugh. "What?" she asked, standing with Beth and walking towards Dakota. Sitting beside him, she whispered into the teen's ear, "You don't want girls to be like music. It'd be awkward to tell 'The Middle' that it's pretty, and give it chocolate." Leaning away, she gave a nod, as if the small movement of her head could prove her point. "But girls? You can do that to a girl no problem. And besides, music is a lot more complicated than us girls..." This comment leead Ally's stare to make it's way back to Isabel. With a kind of pout-like expression, the blonde gave a sigh and mumbled, "Trust me."

Dakota was startled as Ally started walking towards him. His heart pounded as if it would never get a chance to beat again, and that's how he felt. Crap, what do I do? God, why is it so awkward! He smiled as she sat down next to him, before he tried to look away.
Shit! She wasn't suppose to hear that! he thought to himself. He pulled a cigarette out almost as a reaction and stuck it in his mouth, reaching back into his pocket, he grabbed his orange lighter and lit the end of it, and let a puff out, as he turned his attention back to the guitar and Ally. Mentally, he took in everything she said. How he wished he could just tell her these things, but his nerves would never let him. How was he able to get up infront of a stage and perform on the drums or the guitar for hundreds of people, or perform the tricks and flips he does when he boards down the mountains, and yet he can't get enough courage to ask out a girl?
"Haha, maybe for you," he started, as he took another puff on the cigarette. "Music comes naturally to me. It just-" he frowned as he struck the wrong string -losing concentration on what he was doing because of her, he hoped she didn't notice why though- and managed to play the chord correctly with particular force, "-comes naturally," he said releasing the frown, and turning back to look at her, before quickly looking down again, and taking another hit of the cigarette.

OOC:: Sorry if I used some GM/PP. I didn't mean to. Lemme know if I did. It's fine with Liah
BIC::
Dakota looked nervous. That was so... cute. Ally wouldn't have noticed it if it weren't for her paying attention to him. He could have done everything in his power not to seem nervous, but there would always be the slightly sharper breaths, the look in his eyes, there would always be a tell. And if there was a tell, Alaska would be bound to find it.
Her mouth agape at the cigarrette in his mouth, she squeaked, "Son of a bitch, you've been hiding cigarettes from me!" With a smile on her face, she reached in fron tof him and took the cigarette right out of his mouth, taking a quick drag, and then, almost laughing, tried to put it back in Dakota's mouth.
"I'm offended, love," she told him, striking one finger against the other in a "tsk-tsk" gesture. "Why haven't I been invited to smoke some cancer with you before? It'd be a regular fuckin' party, man. Little music, little drug-ery, and maybe if we're lucky you'll finially hold a real conversation with me." Ally gave another smile.
Why am I smiling so much? Stop smiling so much, Alaska. Jules, c'mon, it'll be obvious you're kinda flirting. Wait a second, Ally are you seriously FLIRTING with DAKOTA?!
Her mind a mess, clogged with reverie, memories, alcohol, Isabel, music, and all the hype of a new year, Ally winced slightly, bringing a hand to her forehead. "Sorry, 'Kota, I'm stealing this again." At least this time there was a bit of warning before Alaska's hand reached for the teen's cigarette again.

ooc | Azura, I'm going to make the doorbell not be the visitor yet, just so we get a bit of roleplaying in before he/she comes. You'll see what I do. x3 Sorry. <3 | ooc
Rhyn was quite content to help hand out the glasses after Isabel had finished pouring them, handing each person their own glass. Isabel had walked to the door though, and so, hoping the person at the door was who he wanted it to be he stood up, wandering over after Isabel. He placed a hand on her shoulder, looking through the door.
"Aha! Pizza! I love that they deliver late..." he grabbed the box from the delivery man, pulling a twenty out of his pocket and giving it to him. "Happy New Years," he said with a nod, and the man left. Rhyn closed the door after Isabel and smiled at her. "Ahh, pizza from my own pizzeria! Bwaha!" he ruffled her hair a bit, waiting for the complaint she always gave whenever someone touched her hair. He pranced back into the living room with the box, setting it down on the table. He lifted the lid up, shoving almost an entire piece in his mouth in a very polite fashion. He looked up at Alaska and Dakota, rolling his eyes slightly, and speaking through a mouthful of pizza.
"Waddid I say about smokin' in the house!" he grinned slightly, in all his attractive pizza stuffed self. He didn't particularly like the smell of the smoke, but he had gotten used to it, sort of. He looked between the two still smiling, watching them share the cigarette. He swallowed the large mouthful and then shoved the rest of the piece in after. A few second later he noticed the sound. Blinking he shifted around, looking for the source. The tap! Didn't he just turn that damned thing off? Grumbling he stalked into the kitchen, twisting it back to off. "Who turned the tap back on! Ugh!" he said with a grumble, finally walking back into the living room and plopping himself down beside Kass, wrapping his arm around her shoulders.
