'Four years are going to pass,' they told him. 'You won't feel well when you wake.' He'd brushed off the warnings; hypersleep was nothing but a long, long nap. What Jin had dreaded were his dreams, four years worth of dreams, which would certainly feel like an eternity. Even if he did not remember them perfectly upon his waking, he felt like he was doomed to be haunted by new ghosts from his subconscious, brought to life over eons of slumber. The physical ailments? Easily dismissed.

Of course, he ate his words - or more accurately, spat them out, when all he could feel, the first time he opened his eyes again, was the worst headache of his life, and the worst nausea. The contents of his stomach were all liquid, thanks to his intravenous diet, but it was no more pleasant for it. The loose ends of his dreams were half washed away by stomach acid.

Waking also meant getting to work, and ignoring a particular co-worker, whom he did not even glance at in the ship's small cafeteria. As his eyes slid over the tables, looking for a place with no other people, his gaze caught on someone who hadn't been on the ship's list. Someone he hadn't seen in a long, long time.

Jin smacked his tray down in front of the girl without any warning or introduction. He simply looked at her and assessed, "No. Way."

Jae had done hypersleep trips before, but mostly short jumps, a couple months at the most, usually to secure secret areas that they didn't want people knowing how to get to. No matter how long the jump, though, her stomach was always left flipped upside down, and the only thing it would keep down for three days after waking up was ice cream.

It was not fun.

Each bite became a struggle against more sickly sweetness, pukeable creaminess. All she ever really wanted was a hamburger. Or steamed buns. Instead, she got ice cream.

The sudden tray slam interrupted her rather intense glaring match with the pistachio ice cream that was her meal. She just glanced up at the familiar face, overreacting as usual, and rolled her eyes.

"Finally awake, sleepyhead?"

"You were not even on the crew list." He ignored her eye-rolling completely. He was staring her down as if she had magically manifested right before his very eyes. "I know. I checked it. Twice." He had been hoping the name 'Silas Alderin' had been a hallucination.

"Also," Jin went on, sitting down across from her, "That is a terrible meal." He had opted for buttered toast and orange juice - half blandness, half vitamin-kick. It suited him.

"No I was not," Jae replied blandly. She poked at her 'meal' with a spoon, dejectedly hoping it would turn into a hot dog or something else. "Shuffled on board last minute, put in stasis right away." She shrugged and then winked at him. "Did see your name though. Almost considered turning and running, then I though, poor Jin will need a shoulder to throw pissy fits on, and no one on a mission like this is going to put up with him."

"And, mother, if I could keep anything else down, believe me, I would be eating it."

"Hissy fits, Jae-Hwa, hissy fits." He dug into his toast. Seeing her made him feel more energetic, more determined to be up to 100 percent as soon as possible. Jae-Hwa reminded him to be competitive.

"And for your information, Miss Park, I am a valued member of this team, and I suspect you will be answering to me." He doubted she worked for Weyland, and if she didn't, he probably had more weight, as an official agent of the man who had funded and controlled this mission. Holloway and Shaw were the big bosses, but only because Weyland had a sucker side.

"Pistachio ice cream?" His questioning was a bit insistent. He couldn't quite manage to believe her.

Pissy really was the correct word, but trying to convince Jin of that was futile, so she didn't re-correct him. Instead, she just smirked. "Nope - in my contract. I report to me. " Jae shrugged; hell if she knew why she'd been asked on this mission, and why they'd been so accommodating of her requirements. Maybe it had something to do with her standing up to the pissy young Weyland those few years ago.

"And yes - ice cream. Pistachio, vanilla, chocolate, passion fruit. Doesn't matter the flavor, after hypersleep, ice cream is the only thing my stomach can handle."

"I feel like that says a lot about the diet you were raised on." He rolled his eyes about her contract, but let it go there. It didn't surprise him that Jae-Hwa would demand that sort of thing in a contract. What did surprise him -- and what he really wanted to ask about -- was how a slacker like Jae-Hwa had gotten onto the Prometheus. This wasn't the kind of pleasure cruise that Jae-Hwa Park had shown herself fit for, and though he'd wondered over her redirects and odd silences on her career, Jin didn't think that meant she was jonesing for this sort of hyper-competitive, hyper-prestigious mission.

"Well then," he said, "Do try to look more excited to see me, once you can stomach more than ice cream." He really was happy to have her here.

Maybe it did. Didn't make the diet any more bearable. "I am glad to see you, Jin. It's been too long. Just as ambitious as always, I pressure - let me guess, lead biochemist?"

"Naturally," he told her. "And what did you sign up to be? Head cheerleader? The thorn in my side?"

"I claimed that position for life long ago, Jin-boy," Jae grinned. "But no, I signed on as a mere chemist - just one that doesn't report to you."

He sighed dramatically, as if deeply exasperated at this prospect. "Well, Miss Park, don't go messing up my lab, alright? Or there will be a rumpus."

Jae laughed. "A rumpus? Really Jin? You're een more of a fifty-year old man now than you were ten years ago."

"I believe that is called maturity and I believe it is more polite than any vulgar threats."

Jae rolled her eyes. Jin could try and claim maturity as much as he wanted, but Jae-Hwa knew that when it really came down to it, he could be less mature than she was. After all, she handled her failures and shortcoming with grace. Jin handled his with hissyfits and giant tubs of 'pity-me' ice cream.

Speaking of ice cream, Jae eyed her meal in distain and looked longingly at Jin's simple tray. Setting her mouth into a severe line of determination, she took a small scoop of her ice cream and leaned in very closely to stare at his food, focusing on it. "So besides aging another ten-years, grandpa, what have you been up to?" She was trying to will herself to take another bite of food.

"Eh," he said. "Long story. Not good for breakfast chit-chat." He was tearing through his food between words. Strangely enough, as he ate, he was feeling tired again, as if he hadn't had real sleep. All he wanted to do was get something in his stomach, and have a normal nap. Then there would be time to set up his lab. And, if he was lucky, Silas Alderin would get acquainted with the lab while he rested; that way, neither of them would run into the other.

"How about you regale me with a story, Ice Cream Queen."
