Day One:

Silas flushed what he could find of Jin's stash in the lab, he locked up the supplies Jin would need to make more, and he sent out a ship-wide email that if someone needed it, a requisition would have to be filed through him specifically.

Then he sat primly at his table with his slides and his coffee, deeply satisfied with himself.

Day 1: Mild irritation, scant inconvenience. Jin the Evil Chipmunk had prepared for the winter. Jin the Dreamy-Eyed preferred to stay out of Silas's way.

Day 3: He had a great deal of time on his hands; time moved, at once, faster and slower. He could feel his deep-seated grudges faltering, like chunks of a glacier breaking off into the sea. He stared out at the dust-ridden landscape of the planet from his room. He played a game of pool, alone.

Day 4: Briefly encountered Silas in the cafeteria. Politely pretended he did not exist. Seriously reconsidered the strategy of politeness later on.

Day 5: Camp out in lab. Ostensibly working on compiling research, in case he lived through this. Stole glances at the good doctor when he surfaced.

Days 1-5: Endlessly smug.

Day 6: Silas woke with a fantastic headache, only to find that they were OUT of his preferred migraine prescription. Fabulous.

He absolutely refused to ask, and so, with a great amount of effort, masked his discomfort, popped a few ibuprofen, and headed into the lab, pointedly ignoring Jin's existence as he had all week. Silas pulled on a coat and went straight for the incubation cabinet, eyeing cultures and the time left on the counter.

Day 6: He stared at Silas the way a child might stare at a jar of cookies set on top of a refrigerator. It would be a dangerous climb, one he was not particularly suited for, but he was so sorely tempted. The reward would be delicious.

"Don't cook up anything that will kill us," he murmured. His hair was long enough that he pinned it back from his face with bobby pins.

He was ignored.

Silas picked up a tablet and started scrawling out medications they'd need to counteract what he was growing -- he'd taken swabs from the filtration systems someone had neglected to flush on schedule, which meant there were a few common bugs hanging around. C'est la vie.

Antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, and his headache meds. He finished and set the order on Jin's table, directly in front of him and without a word, before heading out again.

Day 7: When Silas came into the lab, the majority of his order had been filled. Naturally, the skipped article was the migraine medication. Its ingredients had also mysteriously vanished.

In its place was a plastic bottle with a note taped to it. The bottle contained a single pill. The note was not in English.

Day 8: A return note was taped to one of Jin's beakers:

Day9: Pill, bottle, and note were still there when Jin came in.

Silas avoided the lab for the entirety of the day.

Day 9: The bottle was set to the side, and remained untouched. Jin continued to show up at the lab, and watch, and wait.

All he had was time.

Days 10-14: The bottle didn't move.

Silas checked the personnel locator before going into the lab during 'night time' hours, graveyard shifts only. He checked before getting food. He checked before leaving his goddamn room at any time to go anywhere.

Jin had time, but Silas could still find it.

Day 14: The note and the bottle disappeared.

Day 15, Hour 00:00: A different note manifested in the lab.

Day 15, Hour 00:07 : He found the note. He read it. Once. Twice. Then he promptly turned on a burner, set the note on fire, and left the ashes in it's place on top of another note.

Otherwise, leave me alone.

Silas left it there and went to work.

Day 15, Hour 11:43:
QUOTE
I'll be in the lounge at midnight tonight.

At midnight, he was shooting a game of pool on his lonesome. He shot slowly and carefully, his eyes sparkling with a slight glaze, but his expression sharpened when Silas arrived. Jin was either rationing, or had opted to keep a partially clear head for their conversation.

"You are a true master," he murmured, "At always claiming the sensible high ground." He'd pinned his hair back again, and his face looked thinner. It sharpened his cheekbones accordingly.

"And here I thought I was the overly emotional one and you were the brain," Silas replied, keeping a reasonable distance and avoiding putting his back to the wall, as if he expected to be cornered.

He knew very well it had been a bad idea to show up, to give little Jin Kim what he asked for, but it was too late for second thoughts; he'd had his second thoughts back in his quarters, and thirds and fourths. But it was something of a challenge, in his eyes, and he just could not back down from one to save his life.

Silas leaned forward to put his hands on the edge of the pool table, scanning Jin like his eyes were part of some new age sickbay tech. Then his expression shifted, looked expectant, and he took in a weary breath.

"So?"
