Bitten is set in Shreveport-Bossier City, Louisiana. The streets are busy here. Everyone is occupied with their everyday lives. No one really suspects that their neighbor could be a bloodsucking leech or that their dentist turns into a drooling mutt every now and again. Well...most people are oblivious anyway.

She doesn't know,
On the drive to one of Louisiana’s swampy, state parks, Shadow remained for the most part silent. He considered letting his right hand rest near the parking break so he could hold Lia’s, but he never extended the affectionate gesture. In his head, he imagined this trip would be like a romantic getaway to rekindle a literally long lost flame- instead he felt nervous and tense. For practically the entire time, the only thing breaking the awkward silence was the radio. As he drove beside Lia, Shadow could not help but feel the emotions of hurt resurface, the hurt due to her unannounced departure two years back. The two were presumably approaching a solid relationship back then.
They were in that unspoken, probationary dating period that leads to the status of “significant other”. He knew her for only a short period and wanted to know more. She was exhilarating. He thought about her a good portion of the day, more than any other girl. Then, just when his feelings for her began to mature, she disappeared without a trace, unexpected, unannounced. Sure, she was slightly introverted but she must have told someone! Could she at least have told him? Granted, Lia did seem to be a strange girl and who knows what the hell she was doing when she wasn’t being a normal girl with Shadow. Involuntarily, Shadow grimaced remembering his devastation at the time, turning his head to the left by a few significant degrees to hide the displeasure so clear on his face.
At first he was worried something had happened to her. He searched for signs of a struggle, anything that might indicate Lia was in trouble. Everyday for the next two months, he expected to hear tragic news of her death on the television. On the third month, as if in mourning, he allowed the image of Lia, alive and beautiful, to escape his mind- no matter her situation, dead, alive, or simply a runaway, he accepted the fact that she was not coming back. Presently, the sun was in full force while the sky prepared for dusk, painting the clouds with delicate hues of pink and orange. Shadow gripped the steering wheel tight, checking the clock. Not much longer now. Thank God. This was an awful idea. Distractedly, he turned the dial for the volume up a couple of notches, the sound of a quasi-happy, whispery tune filling the car. I don't know who's behind the wheel. Sometimes I feel like I don't know the deal. When I tell you how I feel.
And by god she was back! Well, she was alive. She wasn’t kidnapped or slaughtered, she was sitting right beside him in his car, just as she was two years ago, a picture too stunning in its simplicity to be described with eloquent language. Which must have meant she probably just didn’t care to tell him she was leaving- perhaps he overestimated the value or depth of their relationship. Shadow wasn’t a spiteful person, but for a split-second he wanted the same thing to happen to her, to have someone, a potentially special someone, ripped out from underneath her so she could experience the same pain. Of all places, he found her here in a bar. The twenty one year old was a flurry of mixed emotions- he didn’t know where to start.
But when he peered over at her, all of his anger dissolved, his frustration dissipated, and he broke into a small smile. Despite everything, all he really wanted to do was kiss her. Amazing, really. There had to be a science to this. A strong, odorless compound that triggered such sensations in him, emanating from a single source, or soul for that matter. Bashfully, he turned his attention back to the road, and within minutes was parked underneath a giant, grey weeping willow with a table nearby. He apparently forgot they had food, because he immediately stepped out of the car, running to Lia’s side of the door to open it for her, and leaning in closer than is customary for first “second” dates. No not yet, he told himself. He had to syphon information first. Shadow, as cautiously and quickly as possible, leaned in even closer to touch his forehead to hers and briefly press his nose against her cheek. “Come on. Let’s sit. I have questions for you.”

THE DEVIL IN DISGUISE
SNAKE WITH BLUE EYES
The picnic was her idea. Lia thought that it would give them a little time to get re-acquainted with each other, have a decent meal and have that little bit of privacy. She didn't think that others needed to hear her explanation for skipping town, something she practically rehearsed. She knew she hurt him, and it hurt her to leave. But she had to. She gotten a message that Ben was in Shreveport. Lia thought that if she wasted one moment more he'd move on again. She had spent years, decades searching for him and she wasn't about to let this opportunity slip through her fingers.
The tension was so thick between them that you could almost cut it with a knife. Lia could feel, if not sense, his emotions. He was definitely as nervous as she was. She had planned to tell him everything. About how sorry she was that she had left him high and dry without so much as a good-bye, to why she was searching out her brother. She had told him that she was looking for him, but not the reason. No one knew except her. But she wanted him to know. Since that first moment she had set eyes on Shadow, she had been drawn to him. He was pretty much perfect for her. He knew how to calm her down when she got into the pre- rage stage, knew exactly how to cheer her up when she was down. There was this almost electric thing between them. That's what is seemed to Lia, anyways. She remembered clear as anything the day she received the message. She was supposed to meet Shadow at one of the many places they frequented. She may not have said a word to him, but she did want one last look, one last chance to commit him to memory, before she bolted. She couldn't leave without that. She remembered that night like it was yesterday...
It was just after six at night when Lia received the letter. Someone had slipped it under the door while she was in the shower, getting ready to meet Shadow. She found it as she was on her way out the door. She had to sit on the edge of her bed as she read it. It wasn't signed, nor was it dated. It wasn't abnormal for her. She had hired many detectives and many others who preferred to have their names remain anonymous. This particular person, whose handwriting she had seen before, wrote that Ben was sighted in another part of Louisiana, Shreveport-Bossier City to be exact. Her heart raced as she read the few lines over and over. He was close. Closer than he'd been in years.
Lia had her one suitcase packed and was out the door in less than two minutes. No note, no hint of where she had gone left for Shadow. She honestly didn't think of it. Her mind was all on Ben as she tossed her suitcase carelessly in the back seat of her car and turned the key in the ignition. Only when she was about to drive by where she was meeting him, did Lia even think about what she was doing to Shadow. She parked around the corner and got out, with the intention of telling him what she was doing and where she was going. But she stopped before she came into his view. He was standing outside the movie theater, obviously waiting for her. Then it hit her how painful the good-bye would be. She had come to love this man. It shocked even her when she came to the conclusion. He was the yin to her yang, the peanut butter to her jelly. And dare she say it, maybe even perhaps her soul-mate. That one last look at him made up her mind. She would leave without saying goodbye. A clean break was best. Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
She knew he would be worried. Then perhaps scared then last of all angry. She didn't blame him. Not one bit. Whether he knew it or not, Lia had caught a glimpse of his small smile as he looked at her with, what she hoped, affection. Until she had come face to face with him after two years of being apart, she forgot how she felt about him. Only now it was much, much stronger. Simply put, she had missed Shadow. He had walked into the bar that she worked at one night and it all went on from there.
The music was just background noise to her. All she cared to listen to was his heart beat. The heart always told the truth. When the car came to a stop, Lia stayed in her seat, knowing the Shadow, ever the gentleman with her, would be opening her door before she'd come to the realization that they had reached their destination. But before she could step out of the car, he was there, pressing his forehead to hers. An intimate gesture. To her at least. When he spoke, Lia knew at last it was time. She could only nod as she stepped out of the vehicle, and shut the door behind her. " Shall we grab the food, and talk as we eat, or should we just talk first, eat later?" She wanted to take it slowly so she could have a chance to figure out how she was going to tell him. But she would. She'd tell him anything and everything. No more lies. No more deceit. No more leaving. Whether he liked or realized quite yet, he was stuck with her.

She doesn't know,
There was just enough light left in the day to survey the park. Not far off from them appeared to be a shallow wading with tufts of grass growing on top of the mud pits. A sturdy new board walk crossed over the two feet of water and forked off in the direction of the campgrounds some ways away from what Shadow now claimed to be his willow tree. Out of the hundreds of popleys and towering oaks, he wanted the monochromatic willow tree with the wide base and flimsy branches. It was peaceful, quiet. All he could hear was the chirping of the evening bugs. He beckoned her over to him, completely disregarding the comment about the food- there were more important matters at hand. He nearly forgot it was Lia’s idea to have a picnic, not an interrogation session.
Shadow’s mind was in no position to think about food. For the past couple of hours, he reviewed scenarios of what could happen tonight and how he planned to react to them. The most basic of animal desires is to eat, yet he couldn’t bring himself to swallow a single thing; he wasn’t hungry, he wasn’t full, and a sensation familiar to him filled his stomach. Butterflies no. He could help himself to food when he was nervous. He had felt this way when he first began to fall in love with her; it was a love-sick feeling he never wanted to go away. He loved her and he was going to tell her that the night they were going to meet each other at the theatre and she did not show up, call, or anything. As a matter of fact, he heard absolutely nothing for two years until this freak accident of finding her in Louisiana.
Despite the fact he seemed well over her within three months of her departure (inviting girls home, doing what he usually did), she was ever present in the back of his mind, locked away in the corner of his thoughts so the fatal emotions she inspired would no longer bother him. Pressing his foot to the slightly damp, grassy floor to determine the best spot to sit, Shadow chose a wide, curved area on the willow trees base that conformed just the right amount to his back. He also made sure there was room for Lia. The hollow in his tree was designed for this sort of thing. Facing in front of the pair was the skyline, interrupted by the soft leaves of the willow tree.
All of the sudden he spoke, not a crack or waver in his voice as he looked directly at her bathed in the warm light, “Quite a coincidence I found you here. What are you doing here, Lia? Have you been here all these two years?” he asked gently, trying to hide the undertones of anger and suspicion. He couldn’t bring himself to act on his feelings of anger, but every once and a while, they slipped into his voice. However, there was no spite in his hazel eyes. You could feel safe with him.

THE DEVIL IN DISGUISE
SNAKE WITH BLUE EYES
She already knew the answer to her question. If she was going to start being honest with him, let alone herself, Lia had lost her appetite as well. A long drive in silence layered with nerves and tension could do that to you. She took a deep breath to calm herself as she surveyed the park. It really was a peaceful little spot, a bit off the beaten track. Secluded, was the term she was searching for. The sun was setting, casting a beautiful golden orange glow on everything the light touched. She moved slowly closer to him as she read the emotions on his face. This was going to be a long night, of which after he may never want to speak to her again. She hoped with every fiber of her being that it would not end like that.
Being alone with Shadow in the secluded area of the park made Lia feel a little vulnerable. She kept trying to tell herself that it was only him and her there, that they were safe, but she still didn't know whether danger would be close at hand, or way off in the distance. She didn't know whether Shadow would be safe to be around after hearing the explanation of her sudden abandonment. She was shaken out of her inner tirade when he moved to sit at the base of a willow, leaving a small space beside him for her to sit. In one fluid movement, Lia sank down beside him, pulling her knees up to her chin. She wrapped her arms around her legs and regarded the view before her. She was stalling, she knew, but the moment that she would allow herself to look into his eyes, everything would pour out, most likely ending up sounding different from what she intended.
She was more deep in thought than she had realized when his sudden clear voice sounded next to her, making her jump slightly. She looked at him and met his gaze as he started talking. She took a breath to steady herself while she thought of the best way to answer his question, almost distracted by the setting sunlight playing in his hair and shining ever so slightly in his eyes. “Quite a coincidence I found you here. What are you doing here, Lia? Have you been here all these two years?” No matter how hard he tried to keep his tone gentle, Lia could still hear the strong emotion behind his words. That was it. It was time.
She took a deep breath yet again before translating thought to speech." I have been here the last two years. I came to find my brother. I won't say sorry for my sudden departure because I know that words can not describe the pain and anger you must have felt, and no apology in the world would ever make it all right again. She bit down on her lower lip ever so slightly as she looked down, not wanting to see his reaction to her words. If she had looked up, she might have bolted. She hugged her legs closer to her chest as she awaited his next question, one that would draw her closer to revealing the exact reason that she was looking for Ben.

She doesn't know,
The weight of Lia’s words resonated deeply within him, like an echo through the tunnels of his mind. He listened unobtrusively to her explanation, almost willing to believe anything. After all, she did agree to come on this little date. Whether spurred by guilt, obligatory honesty, or hopefully something more, Shadow could not decipher at the moment, but it did not have an affect on the feelings he was about to confess. The worst thing she could do was reject him, and compared to disappearing off of the face of the earth, he thought he could handle it. Being with her right now opened the floodgates of his memory and restored his passion, as if he fell in love just yesterday. Somehow he knew this moment would come again, intentional or not.
Not once did his eyes break contact. Wholeheartedly, he trusted in what she said. He trusted her blindly and he didn’t care. He remembered he used to put a small strand of her hair in between his teeth as an introductory move to physical proximity. He didn’t know why he did it but it seemed to make her smile so he thought why not do it again. Gently he pulled a few threads of hair from by her ear with one finger, enclosing them in his teeth like a happy child. The grip was soft- he made sure of this so if she felt uncomfortable it wouldn’t be a painful tug to get her hair back.
Once his teeth relented, he held the hair in his hand. They were close enough and her hair was long enough for him to do this. He ranked his thoughts by priority and accordingly responded to her while absentmindedly twirling the hair in his fingers. “I don’t know what I want from you… Peace, an equilibrium. You appear to have it,” as he spoke he began to check himself, carefully selecting his next few words. “You’ve had it for quite some time. I believe you and I believe in you. You’re as real as I am and I want…” he stopped, finding it hard to articulate and even harder considering the situation. In an attempt to recover he switched the subject to his second matter in line.
“Why are you looking for Ben?” he asked curiously, gaze probing. Of all the things he knew about Lia, including her being a werewolf, he knew the least about her brother Ben and only briefly could recall her mentioning him. “Is he okay?” he questioned, concerned. “You know, I could have come with you. I could have helped. You didn’t know me all that well I know, but I would have. Why didn’t you tell me? I’m not…” he paused amidst his rambling to restrain himself from saying ‘defenseless’ or ‘weak’. Shadow was a man of confidence, except when it came to all things concerning his independence, his ability to survive. Many who shared the same canine dna as him have been around longer, were much stronger, smarter, and experienced. Lia didn’t need protection and it irked him somewhat.

THE DEVIL IN DISGUISE
SNAKE WITH BLUE EYES
When Shadow started to play with her hair, grabbing a few strands from behind her ear, Lia wanted to lean into him. Though as much as she wanted to feel the warmth of his body on hers, she resisted. Barely. She bunched her eyebrows together when he started talking again. The sound of his voice alone always had a calming effect on her, in more than one way. " Shadow, I may appear to have it all under control or whatever but I really don't. I may show a tough and steady front but on the inside I am neither." She disregarded the ending comment, knowing that he would tell her in his own time. He always did.
She pursed her lips for a moment while she tried to find the best way to tell him that Ben was the one who attacked her on his first change, almost killing her in the process. The Ben was the one who buried her and then bolted. Enough with the procrastination, Lia silently berated herself. Just do it! Lia took a breath to steady herself before she spoke. " To start, I have no idea how Ben is. I haven't seen him since the day I was attacked. I haven't seen him since the day that he attacked me, turning me into, well, this. I didn't say anything to you about my search because it had nothing to do with you. This was my own quest. I'm not even sure what I would do once I found him, and that scares me. I just-" she stopped talking before her voice could start shuddering. He had been looking for him her entire were life and she was starting to get disheartened.
She could feel the warm tears threatening to start falling as she looked back at him, hoping not to see pity or any of those kinds of emotions on his face. She didn't deserve to have his pity. She didn't deserve him for that matter. The fact that he was there beside her and speaking was a total shock to her. The moment she saw him come into her bar that fateful night her heart nearly leapt out of her chest. A dam of emotions broke and all of her former feelings for the man came bubbling to the surface. And the look on his face as he set eyes on her from across the room, it was almost as if he saw a ghost instead of his past lover. At the time, her emotions were all over the place that they confused the hell out of her.
Lia reached her left arm out and she placed her hand on the side of his face, her touch gentle. She was silent for a moment, giving him a chance to pull her hand away and when he didn't, she spoke again, directly from her heart. " Nothing that I can say will ever make up for the pain and hurt I caused you, but please believe me when I say that I am sorry. From the bottom of my heart, I am sorry. If I could go back to that day, I would have asked you to come with me, to walk with me...to,"she paused a moment, not sure if she really wanted to say it out loud. It had always sounded so perfect, so...right in her mind. She gave a small smile and continued. " To be with me in every way possible. Whether mentally, physically or any other way. I was horrible for what I did to the first person I have ever cared about...that I've ever loved".
There. She said it. The exact thing she had always wanted to tell him. She was shocked when she first realized how deeply she felt for him. She was by all standards and introvert, someone who takes care what she tells people, someone who keeps herself from getting close to others. The fact that she was as close as any man and woman could be with Shadow, shocked her. And that was why she would fight tooth and claw to keep him. She would never let him go again. He was the missing part to her soul, to her whole being. If he ever walked away from her like she did to him, she would be devastated. She deserved it, but nonetheless it would kill her.
Her hand still on the side of his face, Lia continued." See, the thing is, Ben was attacked one night, though he had no idea what it was that had ambushed him. I remember clear as day when he stumbled into the house, looking like he was gang banged to the extreme. It had pained me to see him in so much pain. It took a few days but he healed up fine. I remember how surprised I was when there weren't any marks left from his fight. Then, one day a, few weeks after all of that, we were sitting out in the backyard in the gazebo, the sun was low on the horizon, about to set. I'd had my book out sketching the sunset, Ben sitting silent but constantly writhing beside me. I didn't really take much note of it because the backings on the bench were a little itchy. But it wasn't the bench that was making him writhe. He was in the beginning stages of his first change. I won't go into detail about what happened next, but the end result was Ben, who wasn't really my brother at that moment, attacked me, tearing me to shreds. After that, my mind had gone blank. I suppose I was dead for a small time. But alive enough so that the virus could spread through my body." she stopped to give herself a minute to breath.
She'd meant to speak quickly and deliberately so that she wouldn't chicken out of the truth. But she was proud that she did. She took another deep breath before she finished. " Next thing I knew, I woke up in a dark box six feet under. I'd found out later that my heartbeat was so slow and quiet, that no one could detect it. My parents buried me alive. I was bitter about it for years after I clawed my way out of my grave, but as I had time to think on it, how could I blame them? Especially after I saw my own 'autopsy report'. I was shocked that nothing had come up with it. So, do you understand why I am scared about what I will do once I finally find him? Because the last twenty years or so it's been driving me nuts." A small tear of frustration leaked out of the corner of her eyes as Lia squeezed them shut.

She doesn't know,
Shadow watched her lips move. Lia had beautiful lips. The upper was thinner, while the bottom half fuller, and naturally downturned, a quality he took note of since it appeared to be so different. Despite his feelings, which were a rapidly dissolving mess he didn’t want Lia to experience, all Shadow wanted to do was kiss her. The minute he picked her up, in fact, it was fully his intention to do so. Unchecked and boundless were his thoughts of her. Like a fine wine, he drank in the image of her, her heart-shaped face, her body, and the sweetest look of powerful sadness in the form of watery eyes. The shiny film coated her green pupil, threatening to burst forth any second, yet her face retained its composure except for the occasional quiver of the lips Shadow found unendingly amazing. He knew exactly how she felt.
She struggled to blink, fighting back those tears. He couldn’t bear to see her crying- it racked his entire being to see her in pain. He wanted her to be happy, more than he wanted to know what had happened, or why. Shadow’s susceptibility in relationships could be a dangerous thing in the wrong hands and he fully recognized this fault in himself, but with Lia he did not care. He would roll over on his back to please her, a Venus in furs she was to him. In a desperate attempt to quell her sadness, he moved his hand out of her hair and onto the base of her hip, scooting her closer to him. He assumed, out of guilt, Lia staunchly resisted allowing herself to get close to him. He didn’t want her to feel this either. He was sad when she left, but could never bring himself to be angry at her specifically. Could he have conducted himself fine without her? For two years he did, but that wasn’t the question to Shadow. The question was if he wanted to be without her, and the answer obviously no.
When her hand came to rest against his cheek, he leaned into it slightly, imagining it to be quite a perfect fit. As her voice quivered he had trouble keeping eye contact. If he told her to stop he knew that wouldn’t help. So turned his face into her palm, kissing it with high fervor and again locking his eyes on to her attentively. “Its going to be okay,” he spoke reassuringly, turning her palm over to kiss the top of her hand and in between each individual finger, “you don’t need to say sorry.” His heart felt like a bomb about to explode within his rib cage. “Its going to be okay because I’m going to be with you,” he added bravely, forgetting his fears and committing without doubt to her sole protection.
“I love you, Lia. I’m not going to leave you. Stay with me. I’ll help where I can and I promise nothing bad is going to happen,” he let the words leave his mouth without hesitation, the look in his face piercing and serious.

THE DEVIL IN DISGUISE
SNAKE WITH BLUE EYES
Lia opened her eyes when she felt his lips against her hand. She'd almost forgotten how much she loved the feel of his lips against her. How they felt on her hand, her neck, her own lips. She nearly smiled. He spoke again before turning her hand over to kiss her again. She closed her eyes momentarily, savoring each caress. She could feel the emotion in his voice it was so thick. Lia remembered how Shadow could be. It was another thing she had almost forgotten about him. He grew attached easily and refused to let go. She didn't really know how to deal with a person like that, but when it came to him she was willing to make an exception. She just hoped that she wouldn't regret it.
She sighed and removed her hand from his grasp. " I hope so. I really do. But there is that part of me that will never rest until I find my brother. But now...now I have someone to help me. You." she gave him a weak smile before leaning closer to him. They were sitting side by side and it allowed Lia to lay her head gently upon his shoulder. He warmth radiated throughout her and she relaxed. She felt safe with him. Perhaps because he was one of the only people in her life that knew her. In almost every way. She had just shared with him a secret she had never told anyone. If there was one way he could betray her it was by falling out of her confidence. She didn't want anyone to know that she was looking for Ben in case it would reach his ears before she found him. She didn't want to give him a chance to run from her. He had to face his demons as Lia had had to since he attacked her.
Lia gently snaked her arm through Shadows as she spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. " Don't you dare ever leave me. I know I have no right to demand that of you after what I had done, but I don't think I could handle it if you left."

She doesn't know,
Shadow considered Lia’s secret to be precious in his hands. He imagined how heavy a burden it must have been for the girl to carry alone, and how small, almost intangible thing to him it could be. This secret represented exactly her trust in him. It was like quicksand running seamlessly through his fingers- he couldn’t touch it, harm it, the harder he grasped at it the more it slipped away. He had to simply let it lay in his palms. It strengthened his love for her as well, in a strange way. The visualization he stuck to it was of him falling further into a sand pit, making it harder, possibly impossible, to crawl out of. Negative connotations aside, Lia was a sand pit to him, sucking him in and Shadow wanted nothing more than to be buried up to his head in the essence of her.
Unfortunately, these analogies frightened him. Love didn’t scare him. It was losing her again that scared him. Protectively, comfortingly, he drew her in to him, savoring the feel of her soft, pearlescent skin and the smell of her hair as she laid her head against his chest. Instinctively, he lifted his chin so that it rested just above her forehead, giving the top of her skull a quick peck before. Shadow’s spine tensed up, shoulders stiffened. His mind would not allow him to relax; he was examining everything from what could happen if they found Ben to what would be his next move, Lia in his arms, and then wondering if there were any people around.
Surveying the surroundings for a good two minutes, he came to the conclusion they were in a perfectly private, romantic spot. As if a sense of duty or obligation to initiate intimacy took over, he, as gently as can be, lifted her tear-streaked face up to his, eyes set on her lips, leaving no room to guess what he wanted. As he hovered above her mouth waiting for permission to proceed, he smiled, soaking in her facial features. “So, you’ll stay with me? Come home with me tonight at least,” Shadow spoke slightly above a whisper, momentarily licking his upper lip- nothing was worse than a chapped kiss.
The way it went in his head, everything was planned out perfectly, in perfect, sequenced steps. First kiss her. Next take her home. Do stuff. Marry her and spend the rest of his life with her watching their kids and their grand children play in their front yard. He jumped to conclusions quickly with mostly everyone, irresponsibly. However, he knew it was meant to be with Lia. He just knew it! He would fight anyone who thought otherwise, because his attachment was deep for this girl- a bit mysterious, unfounded, unexplainable, and tenacious too. He was going about this naively, he realized, but he knew no other way; he wanted Lia in his life and he was going to have her. "I won't leave you. I can't wait to spend more time with you, make memories with you," he said with a boyish smile, genuine but sheepish.

THE DEVIL IN DISGUISE
SNAKE WITH BLUE EYES
Thump. Thump-thump. Thump thump.
As her head rested on his chest, Lia listened to Shadow's heartbeat. It had a sort of calming effect on her and realized that after a moment or two her heartbeat thumped the same beautiful cadence. Sitting there in the silence wasn't as uncomfortable as she thought it would be. Actually, it was....relaxing. After everything she told him Lia thought that he would have started to chastise her, or at the least, walk away. But he didn't Instead he had pulled her even closer and placed his chin atop her head. Her hand slid slowly across his abdomen as she draped her arm across his stomach. This close contact, his embrace, brought her back to the past, back to before she left him. She was astounded that he had agreed to meet her, after all she had done to him.
Sighing, Lia closed her eyes as the sound of his heartbeat thrummed throughout her head, taking comfort in the intimate embrace. The sounds of the park a little ways off and of the water gliding by as quiet as a whisper were barely audible. She gave a small smile and turned her face slightly into his shirt, breathing in his essence, when she felt his lips atop her head. But as quick as they were there, they were gone. Lia almost grumbled, wanting the gesture to last longer. It was too brief for her liking. She found herself wanting him at that very moment. She didn't realize how much she had missed the sound of him. The feel of him. A rush of memories forced their way to the front of her mind, taking her back to her life before she left. An intimate embrace here, a stolen kiss in the shadows there. It was seemed like it was a long time ago, another past life. Lia was eager to re ignite the old flame, wanting to add fuel to the fire. In a good sense of course.
Feeling his hand under her chin and her head being lifted up, Lia moved a little to accommodate the movement, she found herself looking into his eyes. He had an almost animalistic look in them, like his wolf was coming to the surface. She mentally berated herself for her tear streaked face, knowing she looked like a mess. She was about to open her mouth to speak but Shadow beat her to the punch. “So, you’ll stay with me? Come home with me tonight at least,” Not able to find her voice at that moment, Lia could only nod. His gaze had flickered to her lips and with that small but quick movement, Lia knew what he wanted to do. Heck, she wanted it almost as badly as him. The memory of the feel of his lips on hers, of his hands lovingly caressing her body...Lia shivered, but it wasn't from the cold.
"I won't leave you. I can't wait to spend more time with you, make memories with you," Taking a deep breath, Lia removed her arm that draped across his abdomen and brought her hand up to rest on the back of his neck. She returned his smile, though hers was a bit smaller, as she slowly pulled his head down closer to hers. The position that they were in was quite awkward, but not an uncomfortable awkward. Her lips grazed his and she was a little shocked at the feelings it evoked in her. Even if she didn't want Shadow, her body did. Once their lips locked together, there was no going back for her. Lia didn't mind that. She didn't mind it at all.
Their lips almost touching now, Lia took a calming breath. Her head was getting a little dizzy. She caught his eyes and bored into them, her own filled with her feelings. " I love you Shadow. I always have. You are mine." With the last possesive word Lia closed the distance between them and pressed her lips to his. The contact alone sent shivers down her spine and she pressed against him, wanting to feel every part of his body on hers.

She doesn't know,
To say the least, Shadow was surprised when she did more than reciprocate his kiss. Naturally, their bodies came closer, and closer still when the boy turned in her direction to more comfortably kiss her. Before moving, the angle of his torso and neck bothered him, and he did not want to stop kissing her by any means, so he shifted smoothly on top of her, laying his palms to the ground to support his upper body weight while his lower half relaxed, matched at the hips. His body was burning up. The temperature seemed to reach a climax at his lips, where every soft kiss seemed to spark a thrilling sensation. In the beginning he was slow and gentle, allowing Lia and himself room to adjust to the new-found, rekindled contact; as soon as he received the notion of Lia liking it, he felt better escalating the intensity and passion. His mouth came down fully upon hers, stealing kisses by the multiple, shortening his breath.
She was truly incomparable. The feeling of being with her was more than a hormone-driven one, and such a revelation made it hard for Shadow to gradually introduce a new level of intimacy since his desire was difficult to control. He wanted her, everything about her. He needed to see her at his house, on his bed, in his kitchen- there for him, and him there for her, supporting her completely. A song played in the back of his mind, locked with the rest of his thoughts involving the future of their relationship. This song he couldn’t quite understand up until to this very moment, where the lyrics seemed to drift seamlessly out his memory and the romantic strums of the guitar were familiar in his head. You’ve got her in your pocket. Where there’s no way out. Put her in a safe and lock it, cause its home sweet home.
His heightened senses aside, he tried to remain attentive to how she was feeling about all of this. No matter how difficult it would have been to hear the words ‘you are going too fast’, he was continually on the look out for such signs, occasionally opening his eyes during their kissing to observe her facial expression or body language. She was so beautiful. Sexy, too. When her voice took on a possessive tone, he was all ears, grinning mischievously with somewhat of a glazed over look in his eyes. His response was immediate. He rose, and quickly swept her off her feet, carrying her by cradling the shoulders and knees, a look of adoration on his features. “Well then, lets go,” he smiled, kissing her forehead as he brought her over to her side of the car for the trip home.

THE DEVIL IN DISGUISE
SNAKE WITH BLUE EYES
Lia almost growled at Shadow when he moved, not wanting his lips to leave hers. She caught it in her throat when she realized that he was just getting more comfortable and in doing so he actually deepened the kiss. She felt the rough ground press into her back but she didnt care. All she cared about was him and the feel of his body against hers. She closed her eyes as his hips settled ontop of hers and the fact that they were in a completely public park was the only thing that stopped her from trying to take things farther than they had already gone. She wanted nothing more than to tear at his clothes so that she could feel his skin against hers. Instead she opted for running her hands up and down his back, occasionaly slipping under the hem of his shirt the feel his rippling muscles. Once or twice she would rake her nails against his bare back, but stalled in doing anything more. The last thing she wanted to do was give the public a free porno show.
He was kissing her with such intensity that Lia was starting to run out of breath. Her head was starting to spin, but she didn't care. She hadn;t had the feel of his lips against her own in over two years. It was too long and she wasn't about to stop any time. At that moment, when she returned his kisses in earnest, is when she realized that he had her. Body, soul and spirit, she was his. She was bound to him in a way that she had never thought possible. For a fleeting moment that thought scared her but when he pulled away and looked into her eyes, she was done. The emotion and look of pure, raw love that was etched into his features put her fears at ease. He wouldn;t hurt her, as she would be damned if she ever pull the same stunt she had two years ago. She almost cried out in protest when he started to pull away but it turned into a warm smile when he lifted her up, one arm under her knees the other wrapped around her back. Her smile grew in response to his.
“Well then, lets go,”
Lia gave a light laugh as he placed a gentle kiss to her forehead and she had to resist yet another urge to kiss him again. Instead, she settled her head against his chest as he came to stop beside his car, reluctant to leave his warm embrace. She stalled for a moment or two longer until she realized why they were heading back to the car. Her lips curled with a mischevious smile as she hopped down. Lia wrapped her arms around Shadow's neck and stood up on her tip toes to place a gentle, almost teasing kiss against his lips. Pulling away, Lia quickly opened the passengers side door and slid in before he could open the door for her. She kept her gaze plastered to the windshield as she waited for Shadow to get in and start the car. She was impatient to get back to his place. She hungered for him in a way that she didn't before. Then again, two years ago they adn't spent that long apart.
She tossed him a grin as he slid in behind the wheel and started the car. With a rather evil glint in her eyes she spoke, her voice barely bove a whisper but still strong. " I hope you are not against speeding, Shadow." She reached over and grabbed his hand, bringing it to her lips.
