• Each time the ability is used runs the risk of Rory being locked out of his own mind.
• When Rory relives the events of another’s life he experiences it within his own mind while is body is taken over by that person’s persona. (Ex. When he was nine and went into the mind of a Roman solider Rory’s consciousness disappeared for three weeks. In those three weeks his mind was that of Marcus Cassius having all of his memories and personality trapped inside the body of a nine year old. Though this was not the actual Marcus just Rory’s mind recreating the man)

Description:

While not the most attractive lad around words such as adorable and cute have been used countless times to describe Rory. But there’s always something else just beneath the surface. He has kind eyes, the sort that make people want to trust him and feel as though he’s their best friend even though they’ve just met, and yet at the same time there’s an aging to his eyes. If you look just deep enough you can see the eyes of a man who’s lived a very long time, old and tired. That age tends to hide itself well behind the friendly green that attracts most people. Another slightly distracting quality is his smile; it’s hard to see him without a smile. And Rory Holmes does not have just any smile, but a very goofy smile that says so much about him. He’s that goofy guy who loves to be happy and have others around him feel that same happiness. He likes to make stupid jokes and doesn’t care if you’re laughing at the joke or at him. Then there is always his nose, a very noticeable feature when it comes to describing Rory Holmes. It’s not exactly large, perhaps wide is a better way of putting it. That’s why it doesn’t look quite as big from the sides, but a few friends have always teasingly told him he should never look down since that’s his nose’s worst angle.

Rory is about average height but tends to seem taller than he is at times due to being a bit underweight. Most people would underestimate his strength and ability due to his stature, but in truth he is rather strong under the hidden his lanky body. As for his style of dress it all really depends. He can dress nice with a button up shirt and a nice jacket. Sometimes a vest, sometimes suspenders. He’s a guy down to it so he’ll dress for the occasion, but the way he looks isn’t something he harps on very often. But one common factor with the way he dresses is there is usually an old fashion feel to most of it, and a tendency to not stand out with what he’s dressed like, his personality does that enough. He tends to prefer to leave his hair alone and not mess with it, but understands that from time to time something has to be done to a mess. He’s not always a fan of shaving and sometimes enjoys leaving a little scruff. But for the most part he’s told to look presentable, which in a few words means dressed nice and clean shaven. Although not all the time, Rory does have a prescription for glasses and can be seen wearing them late at night or on days he feels like being lazy and not putting in contacts. Personality:

Rorric Holmes – Rory is essentially the boy next door. He’s very sweet and caring and can be rather funny which developed a desire to make others laugh. This desire stems from his devotion towards people and willingness to care for others. Rory has never been able to say no to someone in need and is willing to go to extreme lengths to help someone, even more so if he cares for them. It’s this caring that stirs a sense of bravery within someone who could so easily be timid and afraid, but instead Rorric is calm in the face of danger and focuses his mind on what needs to be done to protect others. Even early in his life he was an intelligent boy, no genius, just clever enough to always stay a step ahead. If there was something he didn’t know he would find out. The ways of finding out always vary, but one thing is certain; if he feels that he needs to know something he will find it out. Whether through intimidation, manipulation, or old fashioned research there isn’t much that can be kept from him when his mind is put to it. It’s because of this that his parents were never able to hide the identity of his biological father from him. But this side of him is a more rare side to see, his strength and bravery are an asset but not the core of his personality. More often people will notice the slightly quirky, sweet boy who feels the need to take care of everyone around him.

One thing that seems to be clear is that there is an emotional connection between Rory and every person he ends up reliving. There are similarities in their personalities that make it easier for him to access their memories and allow for him to relive their life.

Marcus Cassius – Was a soldier and tends to be defined by his profession. It was through Marcus that Rory believes he has the bravery he has. After having gone to war as a Roman running into battle fearlessly, it’s difficult to be scared of anything else. But there was a time in Marcus’ life in which he was afraid and had to call upon himself to find what made him brave and would allow him to honor his gods and his people, this is the moment that connects Rory and Marcus.

Doctor Luca Walter – The most notable trait of Doctor Walter is his determination. Luca Walter was a German doctor who became a doctor late in life when his wife became ill. He had spent the beginnings of his life as a Doctor’s assistant content with the life he led, until of course his beloved was struck with illness. He became unwavering in his course to become a doctor, to save her. Luca knew it was most likely futile and she died before he ever finished his schooling, but Luca went on to help many other people and ended up opening a clinic in his hometown.

Lieutenant Thomas Wright – Thomas Wright is the one person Rory has followed who doesn’t have a greater emotional attachment between them. Rory’s mother had died and Rory made the conscious decision that he didn’t want to be himself. By choosing to use his ability there ended up being less of the emotional connection, instead Thomas Wright was a darker man. He was very ambitious and saw nothing wrong with stepping on others to get to the top. He was a British soldier fighting in World War II but his ambitious and dreams lay elsewhere. His time in the army was meant as a stepping stone until it was cute short.

Diagnosis:

Rory essentially taps into another person’s life. In the way a telepath can tap into someone’s mind and an empath can feel another’s emotions, Rory can relive someone’s experiences. His ability is usually triggered when he feels most out of place, when he emotionally can’t deal with that is happening around him and wants an escape. When it happens Rory’s consciousness slips away and he experiences all the things in a person’s life. Normally there is an emotional connection between Rory and the person his ability chooses. Most often the connection is what Rory wants, his desires fuel whose life he experiences because the people had the same wants or desires in their life and were able to achieve it. So far all of these desires have been skills or personality traits. He felt afraid and wanted to be brave, and so he followed the life of a soldier, his mother became ill and he wanted to help her, and so he followed the life of a doctor. But while Rory goes and experiences these lives and his consciousness slips away his brain compensates. In a sense he becomes the person he is experiencing. Having their life, knowledge, and emotions in his head now there is a separate consciousness that forms of the people he follows. The duration of how long Rory is gone for is sporadic at best. So far the longest he has ever been gone is six weeks. Once back, unlike his separate consciousness’s, Rory can remember the experiences. They become a weird sort of reality that he has to remind himself doesn’t exist for him. For the most part there is a barrier between him and the created consciousness’s that helps keep Rory’s sanity considering he has lived three full life times, including have died three times.

History:

Anika Mortensen was born into a life where being a special meant just that, she wasn’t different or strange, she was gifted. Her gift happened to be empathy which caused her to be much more sensitive to the issues of special versus non specials, Anika was more easily able to see things from both sides and to feel the fear each side felt. Anika Mortensen was known her whole life for being a free-loving eccentric, and most people wouldn’t put it as kindly as that. The Mortensen family had long since made their attachments to the Alliance known so when she attended school anyone whose family wasn’t a part of the alliance would normally avoid her, and even many of the kids who would eventually join the alliance tended to steer clear, Anika was an oddball. She met Cormac Holmes while they were at school together. To put it simply he fell madly in love with her and she remained oblivious. Cormac had grown up with parents who decided to live outside the systems of the agency and the alliance. In a sense he had the chance to be a normal kid, one who just so happened to be able to make anything he could possibly dream come to life. Due to his experiences at the bay and utter loyalty to those he trusts Cormac worked for the agency after graduation. His brother, Cillian, had joined the Alliance and the last time the two spoke it had been one huge fight that had broken down all communication between them. Their sister Alannah chose to escape back home to Ireland in hopes of avoiding the eminent war.

Once Cormac joined the agency he and Anika weren’t able to communicate together anymore, though on occasion he would send her a projection she see how she was doing. And how she was doing was having her life picked out and planned for her by her parents. They were avid alliance members who felt as though their daughter needed to get her head out of the clouds and start making an effort in life. Gerard Rothschild-Valois was a respected member of the Alliance and was said to have a way with the ladies. Intrigued by this the Mortensen’s arranged for the two to begin dating, hoping that they would end up with a powerful grandson and another addition to the Alliance’s forces. He was of a good line, and would be a wonderful addition. They got half their wish, Anika did end up pregnant, but Gerard wasn’t the type of man to settle down. He was kind enough, agreeing to be there for the child, even wanting Anika around. Though she saw the darkness in his heart, knew he wanted her for her power, so he could feed off of others. She was a weak individual and had let others dictate her life. But now she was in charge of two lives, she needed to be stronger as a mother. Instead she found herself coming to Cormac. She had cut her ties with her family and planned on keeping Gerard out of her child’s life for good. With no one to turn to Cormac had always been there.

Cormac quit his job with the Agency in order to be with her, although she had cut her ties with her family there was no leaving the Alliance and he understood that. Not long after the birth of Rory Cormac found some sort of nerve that had been buried deep within him and told Anika how he felt. She smiled at him, nothing more than a smile. After all she was an empath, it hadn’t been too hard to put things together, yet her naïve nature had never allowed for anything to occur between the two of them. They married and ended up having two little girls both with different aspects of their mother that were undeniable. Cormac even adopted Rory, because in their eyes he was Rory’s father. They hadn’t wanted to keep things from him, but at the same time they there was a danger to be felt by even saying Gerard’s name. He grew up knowing that Cormac had adopted him and understanding it didn’t make him any less his father, but there always is a curiosity to know where you come from. Gerard had arrived at their home a few times since the birth of Rory. Mostly curious about if his powers had shown themselves.

Eventually they did. When he was nine and had a nightmare. His father had told him that he needed for him to be brave, and that was all he wanted to do, be brave and face his fears. Then Rory was gone. He had been replaced by a Roman soldier who was angry and confused about being shoved inside a nine year olds body. His entire family had no idea what was going on and it seemed as if Rory had lost it and suddenly started yelling in Latin. The Roman leapt out of bed and charged into the street only to meet his foe. A truck. Marcus showed no fear and it was Rory’s body that took the burden of it. He spent a week in the hospital and Anika was starting to become worried. Rory was still speaking in Latin and he didn’t feel himself. The emotions she felt were nothing like her son. There was bravery yes, but also anger and confusion and ruthlessness to him. Rory was the type of kid who never wanted to hurt anything, even bugs he instead insisted that they catch and release them back outside.

For the most part Rory had a normal childhood; Gerard it seemed had lost interest in a son who seemed to not be able to do anything for him. Everything was good until his mother became sick when he was thirteen. In desperation Rory used his ability for the second time in his life. This time he was gone for a month. He liked to joke about it later on saying that he had at least given her a personal doctor for that month. But looking back at it that month was four weeks in which he missed spending time with her. Within a year she was bed ridden, and when Rory was fifteen she passed. That was when Gerard reentered the picture. Cormac and Gerard had had a bitter rivalry going on. It was as if they both represented the two sides of agency and alliance. Gerard was refusing to allow his son to be raised by an Agent. Now that Anika had died Cormac needed work and still believed in the agency and what it stood for. But this was unacceptable where Gerard was concerned. When Anika was alive it was a different story, but now with her gone there would be no good influence on his flesh and blood. Rory might have been honored had he been more naïve like his mother. But he was smart and was able to see through more than he let on. Cormac was his father there was no countering that, Cormac had never pushed any ideals on Rory, and there was no way he was going to be sent off to the unknown with Gerard, even his mother knew enough to not want him around Gerard.

But all this was just too much; it eventually got to the point where Rory just didn’t want to be himself anymore. It seemed his entire family had issues with wanted to escape their problems. This time he was gone the longest, and when Rory came back he seemed slightly different. Though he tried to lock away this last consciousness it would nag at him at times. Rory went to the Bay and attended school, though he hasn’t attempted using his ability again since. He currently wants to become a doctor and isn’t really sure if it’s his own dream or Luca leaking through, but he has always wanted to help people and having medical knowledge at his disposal makes becoming a doctor seem like the right choice.
