| QUOTE | Carson wasn't sure whether Aislin's perky attitude made him more annoyed or more awake. It was cute but also so early. Too early. His eyes widened as she revealed the time. A quarter til sunrise? He narrowed his eyes playfully, taking the bottle that she held out to him. "You're lucky you brought the whiskey," he smirked, taking a quick drink of it. He hardly had enough time to swallow though before she spun around and hurried off down the hall.
"See what?" He questioned skeptically, leaning out of his room as he watched her practically dance away from him. His heart flipped again but he managed to act as if he were only looking at his best friend. "Aislin," he groaned, running a hand through his short hair before following behind her. Just to annoy her he walked a little slowly. She was as impatient a person as he was.
“I found the perfect spot!” Carson raised an eyebrow, opening his mouth to say something. Whatever it was he had thought to say though was lost as she turned back and grabbed his hand. His stomache jumped to his throat as a sudden colony of butterflies sprang up inside of him. He loved the feeling of her hand in his and as silly as it was, for a moment, he pretended they were more than just friends.
If, impossibly, Aislin's dress or the touch of her hand hadn't woken Carson up, the frigid night air certainly did. It hit him all at once, the salty smell of the sea surrounding the two of them. Miraculously enough, they were the only two out there. His heart twisted at the thought of what they could be doing as opposed to what they would be doing. It was so perfect. Too perfect. It was if even the universe was trying to get them together. Why couldn't she see it too?
He sighed, his hand feeling oddly cold as she let go of it. He crossed his arms, watching her closely as she stretched her arms up to the still dark sky. After a few moments of just staring at her he realized she still hadn't told him a thing about why she'd woken him up. It also struck him for the first time that he was the only one she'd woken up. Why not Embry? Why not Nora? A quick feeling of dread coursed through him again. How was he going to tell her about the night before?
He couldn't remember being more confused in his life. Carson did what he did best though. He ignored it. With a goofy grin he pushed all of his thoughts aside and took a few steps forward to join her. "Morning air is always so sweet and refreshing." He laughed, his breath shallowing at the renewed closeness between them. He wanted her so badly the feeling seemed palpable! "I wouldn't know," he breathed lightly, shaking his head. "I'm not usually awake to be out in it." He stood beside her for a few more moments, looking up at the sky, before finally remembering what he was going to ask earlier. "Are you ever going to tell me what I'm doing awake at this ungodly time of morning?" |
