Reading the rules will help, so please do more then skim them over-- trust me, your bios will go over so much more smoothly if you take careful consideration to not skip a single sentence. (Now that’s a hint if I ever saw one.)
1. Before You Register, make sure that you read over this thread and the "Plot" thread (also located in this forum), so that you know everything that there is to know about piB before proceeding. If our board is a board that you feel you wish to join, please proceed to the " Canon Characters" thread, located in the "Canon Characters" forum. There, you will be able to see which characters are available for portrayal. There is a key on the top of the thread, describing how to locate an available character. After skimming the text, choose which student you wish to portray. If piB is admitting original characters (OC's) at the time that you wish to join, you may also register as one. More information about that is located in the "Original Characters" forum.
2. Registering with the name of the student you have chosen, be sure that you use the first AND last name of that character-- nothing else. Example (for the character Oliver Wood): Correct: Oliver Wood Incorrect: Owood, OliverW, ILoveOliver123, GryffieQuidditchStar etc. Make SURE that you register BEFORE posting an application (details on the app are coming later); it makes the admins’ jobs so much simpler.
3. Submitting a Bio/Application is an important process. Your application not only allows us to discover how good of a role player you are, but it also tells everyone about your character. When you post a plotting thread, it is very common for other members to read your application in order to find out where your character would fall in their life. The piB admins have decided to, also, be extremely strict with them, as literacy is a definite plus. The only people who can accept your applications are the admins—moderators or members do not have the power to do so. If you have been unsorted for quite a while, and your application has not been read—please politely pm an admin, and one of us will get to you as soon as humanly possible. Please understand, however, that not all of us are able to remain permanently glued to our computer chairs, thus while same-day accepting is a reasonable asking, same-minute accepting is not.
4. Getting Started With Your Character is your next step. In order to develop plots for your character, you may post a plotting thread in the proper forum, or pm another member asking if they would wish to thread. There is also the “Thread Classifieds”, where you may post if you are experiencing boredom. After this, you may begin to RP!
5. Open/Reserved Threads are the two types of threads you will come across. If there is a name of another character in the tagline of the thread, then that thread is reserved for that character—meaning, you may NOT post there. You WILL be warned if you barge into a thread un-invited. An open thread is where there are no names or the word “open” is placed in the tagline. All are welcome in this type of thread.
6. This Board is Written in Past Tense and in the Third Person, thus you need to make sure your posts do so. If you do not—you will be warned.
Incorrect Example | QUOTE | | I walk down the hallway on my first day of school, anxious for classes to start. There, I see my best friend and we run to the Great Hall for breakfast. |
| QUOTE | | Kevin walked down the hallway on his first day of school, anxious for classes to start. There, he saw his best friend and they ran to the Great Hall for breakfast. |
7. This Board is PG-13 Rated, but if you wish, you may interact in R rated activity IF you place a warning in the tagline. If you and some other character wish to portray sex or extremely violent actions, I most certainly can’t stop you; however, we ask you to place the appropriate warning in the tagline of your thread.
Graphic Sex: [S] Graphic Violence: [V] Unsure, You Just Know You Shall Get Graphic: [G] Profound Language: [L]
8. Member to Member Conduct is very important on a growing board. You MUST be respectful of your fellow-role players. If you wish to trash them, do so on AIM, MSN, or e-mail—but you will NOT disrespect another member on MY board. Another point I would like to make is that of plagiarism. There will be NONE of it, as no one likes to find their work under someone else’s name, (remember that the answer to “spent from” is “emotion”). I have been a victim of it, not the coke—the plagiarism, as well have many others, and let me tell you—it makes me downright mad. If you are too lazy to do make a graphic yourself, ASK someone to do it for you. If you are too lazy to write your bio—no one can help you there, perhaps you shouldn’t be role playing. If you have found your work plagiarized on THIS board by another member, PM an admin IMMEDIATELY. The punishment for such stealing is automatic expulsion from piB. Do not plagiarize. Kapeesh?
9. No Advertising on this board. Period. If you want to affiliate, that's a different story-- you can apply.
10. Finally, the Last Rule, the 3-Strikes and you’re out rule. Self explanatory, if you do something wrong three times -- you’re gone. Sorry, but it’s the only way to keep things orderly.
