AGE: Young adult. He'd be about 18 if he were a human.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: His fur is bronze, and he had a light ocher underbelly. His mane is a slightly red chocolate color. It is not the thickest mane, due to malnutrition from wandering. He has long fur on his chin the same ocher color as his underbelly, and it resembling a goatee. he also has mane-like fur on the back of his elbows on his front legs. He is thin and underfed, but he looks overall healthy. He is dirty from travelling, and his fur is messy and disheveled. He generally has a slightly long, confident, unassuming face. He's got a youthful look about him as he is still young.

PERSONALITY: Funzi is an intelligent and curious lion. In fact, that's what drives him: a quest for knowledge. He loves figuring out how the world works, but he is just as fascinated by simple things. He loves having fun and hearing stories, especially when he needs to get his mind off things. Learning comes easy to him, but he often loses his patience when others don't understand what he explains. He is occasionally, albeit unintentionally, condescending towards those who don't know as much when he is frustrated. He does try his best to keep himself from doing so, especially around friends. To those he considers friends, he is jovial and lighthearted. Yet, he is quiet, awkward, and reserved around those he doesn't know. He dislikes awkward situations, so he avoids them whenever he can. Despite this, he is fiercely loyal, and he'll defend his friends or his beliefs when either are threatened. Due to an incident earlier in life, he blames himself for anything bad happening. His biggest fear is failure and letting others down when they rely on him, so while usually he's confident, he second guesses all his decisions when pressured. He's not the strongest lion, so he relies on his knowledge to outsmart opponents and prey. Yet, his self doubt can just as easily cripple him.

RELATIVES: None at this point.

HISTORY: Mwanafunzi was born to an outside pride of lions in a land without kings. As a cub, he was more fascinated with the world around him than playing with other cubs. He would often explore with his brother and listen to stories from elders and travelers. He was confident, and he grew cocky. He'd flaunt his knowledge whenever given the chance; often driving all but his family away.

One day, Funzi and his brother explored a local mountain. Confident in knowledge of the area, he assured his brother it was safe. It was, for the most part. However, Funzi set off a chain of events that ultimately led to his brother's death. Traumatized by the event, Funzi blamed himself for all misfortunes afterwords. His confidence was shaken, and his self doubt emerged and grew.

Due to Funzi's love of learning, the local shaman chose him as an apprentice. He continued this through his adolescence. It was hoped that the apprenticeship would get Funzi to overcome his brother's death. While his jovial, normal self eventually returned, he never fully recovered. Then the shaman said that knowledge is nothing without the wisdom gained through experience. His brother's death humbled Funzi, but he needed to live his own life away from the trauma. The shaman told him to to go out in search of wisdom and knowledge, as there was nothing left for him there. Funzi wandered as a rouge trying to learn and survive for some time. He grew stronger, and he learned to put the past behind him for the most part. As he reached the cusp of adulthood, Funzi set foot in the pridelands.

OTHER: I'm leaving on a jet plane! Don't know when I'll be back again! Sorry, that's the song I'm listening to currently. I could mention a poem. Ever read "Terrence, this is stupid stuff" by Housman? My favorite poem, that is. It really gets you thinking. My favorite epic is Beowulf, though.
