the legend begins!
The Lion King. It is a tale of family, love, responsibility, betrayal, friendship, faith, hope, and coming of age; the very elements that we all must face in our own life adventures. But the story of the Pridelands did not end with Mufasa, Sarabi, Simba, Nala, Kiara, and Kovu. Africa's chronicle has continued on long after, with these great leaders looking on from the glittering evening stars. Africa's stories, the histories of these majestic lion prides, are still being written: here on Ulaya, the Lion King RPG.

 Welcome to the Outlands

The Outlands Guide
The Kingdom Information The Inhabitants
A far cry from the magnificent home of the Pridelanders, the Outlanders dwell inside a large termite mound located in the midst of the dry, desolate outlands. There is little water here, resulting in the baking of the land, making it a brown and dismal place to reside. The only relief comes from deep within the termite mound; the cooler caverns and dens where the lions can usually be found. And when they are not here, they are hunting through their lands, seeking out the occasional mouse or snake to devour. If some brave prey animal does stray here, it might be to the stream that runs through the land; the only viable source of water. Not far off from the great termite mound is a cave, dark and foreboding both inside and out. Here resides the shaman of the Outlanders, a healer of strange ways. Painted upon the walls are the tellings of the past, the ancestors of the dark lions, seeking something greater for their pride... or themselves. Lions: 12

Given that land offers little shade and greenery year round, it only stands to reason that plant-partaking prey rarely visit here. With so few opportunities for meals as it is, the pride that claims this land is not very fond of guests. Rogues and foes: enter at your own risk.

It was hot, to say the least. And boring, dreadfully boring... but that was a typical day in the Outlands. Of course, there was always the frought notion in the air that something horrible might happen, but it usually was surpassed by each day's end. Baquah's stomach rumbled slightly, but even that wasn't new.

The downcast lioness was lousing about on a heated rock, feeling much too bored to even move. It wasn't as if she was complaining for an event; she hated suprizes as much as the next over-analyzer. In fact, boring was just how she liked it. For once, nothing was to go wrong.Baqauh briefly wondered if she should go find Hazuri; make sure the cub didn't go crazy with the stillness of the day. But, then again, the cub was perfectly able to handle her own problems.

Her thoughts drifted lazily to her father and mother, remembering what a happy family they were before life spun downward. She could almost feel their warm fur against hers as she got ready to drift off into a nice cat nap... har, har... a pun...

Almasi walked softly through the dust of the outlands, all of which remained settled from the lack of wind that day. It was extremely still and it made the heat practically unbearable in the desolate landscape of the outlands, her dark fur taking in the Sun and making Ally even more unbearably hot.
The lioness tried to fan herself with her tail's movement as she strolled across the solid ground and knowing before long she would need to find water. Almasi knew the only decent water source was along the prideland borders, the stream which had once been home to crocodiles but these days was not the great rush of water it had apparently once been. She sighed, lightly blowing out of the side of her mouth in an attempt to cool herself before trying to sense any dampness in the air, forgetting which direction she should head from here. It was to her right she scented not only water but one of her pridesister's too. Ally hoped she wouldn't have to try make conversation with one of the more sociable pride members for lately, though she had found talking to some of her pridemate's to be less tasking than she originally calculated, it just seemed all of them were on a mission to befriend her. Then again, Almasi thought, as she headed toward a rock that she was sure the stream lay just beyond, it always seemed to be her who initiated these meeting in one way or another...

Her ear twitched to the sound of dust rising up at the impact of soft pawsteps. Oh great..., she thought. Company.
It wasn't as if she wasn't interested in others... it was just that, right now, she wanted to rest and relax. Without having pretending to care about whatever the other was talking about. She was tired. But Baquah decided that she should at least make an effort to listen.

Yawning, half-rising up from the rock, she looked behind her to see Almasi headed towards her.Or perhaps to the river beyond. She didn't really care which. But perhaps she should warn her of the dangerous predators that lurked in it's waters?

"Good afternoon.." she said awkwardly as the dark lioness came closer.

Almasi's head snapped round at the sound of the voice and saw Baquah, one of the grumpier pride member's, lounging on the rock she'd just began to skirt around. She wasn't entirely sure she wanted to get into conversation with the lioness, but from what she'd heard the lioness shouldn't want to talk to either - she hardly enjoyed a quick chat as far as Ally could remember.
Realising these thoughts had let her get round the rock without a reply, she turned and nodded with an awkward smile on her face in what she hoped was a greeting manner - she didn't really know. It was the best she could do before focusing back to the water ahead which she was relieved to have found at last. The river was vaster than she'd remembered, no doubt from a better rainy season earlier in the year, and she let her hazel eyes scan the surface of it in an attempt to ensure there were no unwelcome visitors lying low there.

Baquah saw the other lioness was uncomfortable acknowledging her- but who was she to care. As far as she seen, the pride was made up of lions that were either wishy-washy fools or monsterous brutes. If she didn't have to get involved, she didn't have to get involved. Most didn't enjoy talking to her anyway.

Just as she was lying back down, she saw through half-lidded eyes where the lioness was headed. She got a jolt- Almasi hadn't turned towards the safer parts of the river... the destination of her current path was the nursery inlets. It was why Baquah enjoyed sleeping on this rock alone- most lions knew not to mess with the nurseries of the crocodiles, which held their tiny babies. Even only a sip, and you might find your head underwater.

Baquah quickly hopped up and off her precious sun-warmed rock, and trotted up to Almasi. "You don't want to go there. That's the nurseries- it'll be protected. A safer place to drink would be up the river." And then she turned right back to her rock- well, almost. Something was stopping her- perhaps a desire to see her advice taken, however rude it may have been? Bah! She was still sleepy. So what if the pride lost one more pridemember? She didn't care- at least, that's what she told herself.
