[Soara]

Soara fluttered her wings a bit as she flew accross the heavens. The purple-blue lights tinted her scales, and the clouds floated across the moon overhead. Shars shone down like pinpricks of hope in the vast universe. Soara closed her eyes and let the wind play with her ears. She dipped a bit in the air and looked down. Sweetwater was laid out before her like an anthill, with movements every so often in various territories. A vast lake around an island: Home of the water. A land batrren of all vegetation and constantly ablaze: Lands of the fire. The plateau and mountains which she resided on, and a lush forest, the earthen element. She twisted to look up and the heavens and sighed. War was stirring in sweetwater. The elements were fading from uneasyness into fullout hostility. It wouldn't be much longer before they attacked. The blood shed upon the lands would be terrible, and chaos would ensue. Each one of them was too stubborn to know when to quit; Death was inevitable. Ironic, really.... The winner of the battle, if they survived, would have no one to rule over. Soara was resigned to this, but in a way she also anticipated the adrenealine, the risk and excitement of War. the silvery dragoness gazed up at the crescent moon. Her gaze was intriguing, full of hate, fruutration and resentment, yet also holding an awed wonder. Behind it, there was a great sorrow, enveloping all else in it's sollem (sp?) glow. She turned away from the thing that had cursed her, and angled down towards the lands. As she soared, she called out her friends name.

"Nayru! Where art thou? Come hither!" she spoke. It was but a whisper, yet she knew her friend would hear. With a last glance down at the earth, as if motioning for one to follow, she dissapeared into the night.

Nayru lay in the shallow part of the sea,basking in the suns rays, letting the cool water wash over her, it seemed to heal her. A sigh was released, she was now completely rested from the recent battle. What had started out as a little arguement sure had escalated, she thought, turning over to cool the other side of her blue hide.
Nayru lay there for a moment, then, auds snapped up, and she was instantly alert. It took the water maiden but a moment to comprehend the call.
Nayru, where art thou? Come hither!
It seemed to be a whisper, but still, it was definatly Soara. Who else talked in arcayic(sp?) english? Nayru lifted the rest of her slender frame with a queit grunt and shook her coat off, sending water droplets flying everywhere. Not even bothering to mutter the words that would so easily render her completely dry she took off in a run, the water still flying from her damp coat. Too lazy to dry off her wings, Nayru kept running, since she was unable to fly with her wings so wet. Quickly she gathered speed, but stopped gathering when she reached a slow gallop. As her powerful pillars carried the water maiden acros the land, and out of her terra, the water finaly stopped flying off her and by the time she had reached Soara she was dry enough to lift herself into flight, beside Soara.
'Lo Soara.
She offered a smile towards her friend, blue orbs twinkling.

Soara sighed with releif at the sight of her friend. One could never tell if one would even be alive to see the next day, in these times... No matter. She flew over to Nayru and made a whicker-like sound of affection. Wings fluttering, she flew in circles a bit, then spoke with a worried tone. "I can't even be sure if I'll live to see another day. It's been like this since the war didst start. Hostility, worries and battles." She looked back at nayru and flipped over to fly while looking up at the moon. "What should we do? Wait to be attacked? Who are our allies, potential or active? Who be the greatest threat?" She sighed and shook her head. "What of midnight? Commanche, I will not even bother to mention. He would laugh at the notion of peace. But the earthen lady..." She paused. "After our battle, she must hate me. It be ridiculous, but that is her nature. She knoweth not that it be just the full moon that transform me. Thinkest thou that thou mayest persuade her to join us? If so, we would have a chance against Commanche and his fire. We are mostly safe from him, and we would be able to better protect midnight." Soara once again looked up at Nayru. "Thinkest thou it be possible?" She said.

Nayru stopped fluttering for a moment as she thought and started to fall downwards...Just as she was about to thump onto the cold ground her wings caught enough air and she was up beside Soara again in no time. She shifted her weight slightly before speaking.
...We don't wait to be attacked...but we can't just attack randomly either... Her voice trailed off and again she shifted her weight, deep in thought. Then she spoke again, momentarily dismissing the first dilema and addresing the next.
I know what you mean. When I heard your voice I was releaved, because I knew for certian that you lived on. It's crazy. We can't go on living like this. She paused then continued, At least we know that we are faithful alies to each other. As for the earth maiden...yes I believe we should attempt to make an alie out of her... Once again she fell deep into thought, so deep that she didn't answer Soara's last question.

Soara nodded at her friends grave words. "War be stirring in this sacred valley. When will it arrive?" she mused, looking up at the glowing moon. "Or hath it already?" she asked, yet no one answered, her whispers fading away on the breeze. The clouds shifted, revealing the moon in full shining glory, then swirling to conceal it once more. She sighed and glanced at her loyal frind, glad that at least one remained faithful.

Choosing not to reply Nayru simply glanced at her friend than at the sky. Wan smile stretched across her maw as the moon came into sight.
At least it wasn't full.
The moon cast it's soft light onto the maidens saphire coat making it gleam and giving the illusion that her blue orbs were glowing.
Soara's green optics resemled a cat's and would have been deeply distuburing to Nayru if she had not grown used to them already.
To an outsider the two may have simply looked like two harmless mares but in reality they were much more.

Her friend's question remained unanswered, for Nayru had no reply. Orbs shifted to look at her old friend, orbs full of wonder and tinted with fear. Always silent, she tossed her head, mane fluttering. The moon came into sight, clouds shifting in and out of it's path.

At least it wasn't full.

The moon cast it's soft light onto the maidens saphire coat, making it gleam and giving the illusion that her blue orbs were glowing. The shafts of moonlight were broken where the clouds crossed it's path, mottled glows flickering across her pelt. The crescent was always visible, even when the cluds shadowed it, it still shone through.

Soara's green optics resemled a cat's, bright and somehow fierce, although they brimmed with suppressed sorrow. They turned on her, smiling warmly, and the swirling, burning green would have been deeply distuburing to Nayru if she had not grown used to them already. She smiled back, but still spoke no words.

To an outsider the two may have simply looked like two harmless mares, but beneath the surface, they were much more. Then again... in this time of war, in this land of shadows, what creature or object truly was all it seemed to be and nothing more?

For that, she had no answer.
