Trevor age 13.
Twins age 4.

Kade looked down at Emma as she tugged on her shirt. "What is it, honey?" she asked her, smiling lightly. She glanced up again at Oliver to make sure he was still playing his gameboy in the back of the truck.

Emma beamed up at her with one missing tooth. "Can I go get a churro?"

Her mother nodded. "Alright, go find Trevor, he'll take you."

Trevor sat up in the back seat of the truck. "What am I doing now?"

Kade held a $20 out to him. "Take your sister to get a churro." He rolled his eyes but got up and went. "Hold her hand, and if either of you see something you want, go ahead and get it. If it's too much, just come back, we'll get it later." He took the money begrudgingly. "Come right back."

He sighed and nodded, but came over and led Emma away. She started babbling to him, but Kade wasn't paying attention. The churro stand was just around the lane, they wouldn't have to go far. She kept working the register, smiling at another customer. Andy was doing the grunt work; emptying out the truck and restocking every hour or so.

Not even ten minutes later, Kade heard a wail that brought up the hairs on the back of her neck. That was Emma. "Andy!" she barked to get his attention, and bolted in that direction. Whether or not she liked the little girl, she still loved her. It was her daughter. She ran, weaving through people until she found Trevor holding onto Emma. Emma was crying. There was a girl right behind them, looking angry. She looked younger than Kade, maybe in her twenties. Kade scooped Emma up, holding her close. "What happened?" she demanded of Trevor.

He held up his hands. "I didn't see! I gave her the money to go in and get a doll she wanted and --"

"Your little brat bit me!" the lady said, showing her hand where, sure enough, there were red bite-marks, with one missing tooth toward the front.

Kade opened her mouth to apologize when Emma reared back. "She grabbed me first!" she protested, and was sporting a red mark across her cheek that wasn't from crying.

She stared at it, and looked at Emma. "Did she hit you?"

"Damn right I hit her!" the lady said. "She bit me!"

"She's five years old!" Kade yelled, holding Emma protectively again. "She said you grabbed her first too!"

The girl put her hands on her hips. "She was stealing that doll." she said, pointing at the doll in Emma's arms.

Kade scowled, pulling back enough to look at Emma. "Emma, were you going to steal the doll?"

"No!" she wailed, pawing at her eyes again and whining. "I was going to the lady because people were paying her and and and she was at the front and I wasn't gonna steal it, mama, honest!" She leaned forward again, wailing. Kade looked at the girl for an explanation.

The girl babbled for a moment, but then another, older lady came up behind her and put a hand on the girl's shoulder. "What happened?"

"She bit me!" the girl said immediately.

Kade gave her a heated glare. "My daughter was going toward you to pay you for the doll when she grabbed her." Now looking at Emma's wrist, there were more red marks. "Obviously hard, and Emma bit her. And then she hit her."

The lady looked at presumably her daughter angrily. "You hit a child?"

"She bit me!" the girl said defensively.

Sighing, the lady looked at Kade again. "I'm very, very sorry. Have the doll for free. I won't let this happen again."

Calming a little, Kade nodded her head. "I won't either. I'm sorry she bit you, but it's self-defense."

"For who?" the girl sneered.

Kade gave her a steady look. "Lycans."

The girl looked scared but said, "Well maybe you should keep her on a leash."

About to pull a hand back and hit the girl, Kade blinked to find that her mother beat her to it. "You watch your mouth young lady! I taught you better than that!" She looked at Kade again, a tight grip on her daughter's neck again. It wasn't meant to hurt that much, just a warning. "I'm very sorry. You let me know if there's any permanent damage. I'm here every weekend."

"There shouldn't be," Kade said, looking at the girl evenly. She nodded to them, grabbing Trevor's shoulder and heading back toward their tent with Emma still crying on her shoulder. Once they got back, Andy started to panic because Emma was crying, but Kade sat her on the back of the truck to have a look at her face. "Em, honey, it's alright now. You're not in trouble, and now you're just giving yourself a headache for crying." She was talking softly. Pushing some hair back from Emma's face, she looked at her wrist next. They were just red. If they became bruises, Kade would be pissed.

Emma whined, and held up the doll. "But mama, I didn't pay for the doll either..."

Kade sighed. "It's okay, Em. The lady said that you could keep it."

She nodded, seeming to take the explanation, and hugged it to her. She looked up at Kade. "Am I in trouble?"

"No, baby." She kissed her forehead. "Love you."

"Love you too. Where's daddy?" Andy was right behind Kade. She moved out of the way and then went to find Trevor.

She ran a hand back through her hair. "You let her go in and get the doll by herself?" she asked seriously.

Trevor frowned. "The shop was open, I was watching her."

"But you somehow didn't see her get grabbed and hit?"

"I looked away for two seconds!"

Kade sighed again, and handed him the money again. "Go get your sister a churro. And see if you can find a bag of ice..."
