Title: Let's Talk Titles

JewelTones - April 9, 2012 05:42 PM (GMT)
The funny thing about titles for our books is, usually, the publisher changes it. So while I don't lose any sleep over titles... no. wait. that's a lie. I do lose sleep. Gads. Having an untitled - or worse yet, a mis-titled - manuscript rattling around my computer bugs me. It feels like my book is walking around with mismatched socks or its buttons all plugged into the wrong holes.

A book just doesn't feel complete without a title.

And while a publisher will most often change the title, the title you pick IS part of the sales package when you start shopping your book around.

So what happens when your book refuses to be named? What happens when, no matter what you do, that book title just won't budge? Nothing clicks and you're about to pull that last bit of hair from your head trying to come up with the right one?

I thought it would be fun to talk about methods, tricks, and gimmicks we use to come up with a winning title.

So....

Have you ever struggled with finding the perfect title?

How did you solve that struggle?

What tips & tricks do you rely on when trying to come up with a title?

Share some war stories! (and no, these don't have to be romance novels, so even if you don't write romance, join on in!)
