Is there anyone in the UK who has a literary agency that specialises in short stories as well as novels, please, especially someone who uses a particular one they can recommend. Thank you ;)

I'm sorry, it's a bit confusing for me to see anyone requiring need of agenting with short stories, I'm not at all familiar with anyone ever having done that.

As a person who really enjoys reading and writing short stories, it's been my experience that finding a publisher and marketing short stories in general, is difficult. That's not to say that it can't be achieved, but the publishing industry in general is banking on well-known authors to ensure success.

A suggestion perhaps to consider looking for sites on line that are looking for short stories. I'm of the belief that writers should be paid for their work so don't give it away for free. Every time a writer does this, it makes it more difficult for all writers to receive financial remuneration. On the other hand, you might also consider starting a blog to be used to market your work.

Yeah, again, it's really best begun--honest to goodness, spare yourself--by a targetting of what kind of short stories, widget. The market can be as varied as your stories are.

It bothers me that Widget hasn’t replied to any of her posts looking for agents.

My psychic-instinct (akin to my x-ray vision and power of invisibility, but involves spitting on sacrificial chicken innards) tells me that she’s quite a capable writer, and I really hope she’s not one who’s merely looking to develop relationships here because she wants to generate a side income from doing paid research for other writers, or acting as a go-between to forward documents, etc.

That’s not the way we do things at the WBBS. Here, we work to help each other, not bill each other. Always have, always will.

Unfortunately, and if you check all the newbies that have joined this forum, you will see that few have actually introduced themselves. People who are interested in writing join forums in the hope that they will acquire the basics to be able to submit their work and see themselves in print. Not that there's anything wrong with this - we can all learn from each other.

It would be great if lurkers who read our messages would come out of the shadows and join in the conversation or start a new one. For example, we know nothing about Widget and perhaps those in the know could/would be inclined to share if she (and others) would share a bit of themselves with us. How about it Widget - and all you other new joiners? A forum is a means to exchange information.

Widget was just looking for information, I think, not do any sharing as such. I agree it would be nice if we had greater participants, but this seems to be the fate of most forums these days.

By the way, Ellie, I just joined the Montreal Book Lovers book club to see what it's like. Any experience with this?

You called it a while back, Ellie, couple times, and Bizzy illustrated at one point something like, "That's sixty some users with valid reasons not to sign on.";) I'm afraid I took it another way myself at the time, distracted, so little time to devote here, anyway, as I said but let us shine a blinding light on it here and now. ~In the middle of the morning, this a.m., for example, somewhere in the neighborhood of 56 guests were on, predictable quietlike as they'd ever been and growing in number. In any good sense, they might imagine I have some thoughts for them, but they don't jibe with fiction. :lol:

Not familiar with the club, Josh, but how bad could it be when a group of book lovers get together to discuss books? ;)

I don't think you need an agent for short stories or books in Canada.

As for America, I think you an agent for books - but not short stories.
