So, I've been watching a bunch of old WWF dvds during the last few days, and I noticed some great midcard wrestlers (obviously) that never made it to the big show, which got me wondering, what stops a

Mr. Perfect from a world title run? Great look, awesome ring skills, great promos, he seemingly had it all.

I think it was the gimmick.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with his gimmick, but it just didn't feel like a main event style gimmick.
I have been sitting here, trying to explain it, and I can't so I am petitioning the internet for help.

If you can think of someone who had everything they needed to get the big belt, and their gimmick held them back, please put them here, and why, if you can find the words.

Yup i agree even today we see great wrestlers who they don't get a push.Drew and Cody few of them.

Mr Perfect was perfect, one of the best technical wrestlers ever. Two other wrestlers who never won the WWE title is Piper and Vader.I know Vader was a 3 time champ in WCW but he never got the chance in WWE

Were different times, not everyone got to be World champion even some as talented as Mr. Perfect, they were more value in the titles, the Intercontinental Champion was the secong most important guy back then

I understand that, but you seem to be saying that things were that way just because they were that way, and that's crap.
Why not Perfect? Why not Piper? Why not Steamboat? All 3 men would have been great champs

It's not entirely the gimmick.

A Persons gimmick can be awful, but if they make it work, it will allow them to progress.
