So currently we're off to a slow start. Since nobody has come up and detailed much about a world, I think I'll nudge things a little further. Currently, we have two towns. One is unnamed and undefined saved for the fact that it's by a river, the other only has a name. We're not going to go anywhere without some kind of spontaneous plot, so I'm going to start a little hostility between countries.

Note that all this is up for discussion and approval and editing, too. Everything I type up here will be used in the RP topic I'm about to create, but it can be changed from the ground up or just tweaked slightly (such as names).

Okay. My standard approach to a world will be in effect for the time being. I picture two big continents on one side of the world, of similar size but different shape. There's an ocean in between the two with a huge archipelago of islands between the two, ranging from fairly small to roughly Japan or Madagascar sized. The western continent is akin to Europe - fairly temperate and green with colder , though heavily populated and civilised. In comparison, the eastern continent is incredibly mountainous and rugged, with huge hilly regions and steep inclines. It's somewhat more tropical here, densely packed with forest and jungle and offering only the coasts for heavy humanoid expansion. Some civilisations may still exist in the interior, and this is likely where most of the magical creatures will be found. The islands are incredibly diverse in size and type, so just about anything could be found out here.

There, that's a rough world spun out of nowhere for use. If necessary it can be expanded - have a third giant continent to the north or between the two on the other axis, whatever works or whatever somebody wishes to make. Feel free to put new stuff in as well as develop what I've written here, like adding cities and civilisations and what not around.

My next RP topic will focus on the western continent, named Westeros as a nod to George R.R. Martin's writings. wink.gif

I like the ideas you've got, Delfy. May I suggest that while these are the continents that are known to the world right now, there will still be room to explore the world? Like say, people will have somewhat of a mentality similar to Europeans before the Americas were discovered?

You forgot the feral amazon tribes on the eastern continent amongst the jungles staving off a massive orc invasion from the-oh wait, different time-setting, my bad. I swear I've been here before.

I'm a little hesitant to jump in with dozens of world building idea's, as everyone needs their own say in flavor and such, and I'm relatively new to this little corner of the interwebs.

That said, I believe the topic of demi-humans [non-human humanoids. Elves, dwarves, etc.] needs to be discussed as the synopsis explained that there were plenty of these kinds of races around [I'm picturing a very D20 modern Urban Arcana setting here in the cities] but I've yet to see mention of them, all humans. No monsters or anything, there was talk of a bear at some point, but that's the closest I've seen to a non-human critter =]

Well, as I said, it's very much fair game at the moment. The world is there to be carved by anyone who has an idea of where to take things and what to include in it. Unfortunately, no-one stepped up to the plate, so that's why I did, Tab. If we want, we can make a topic to discuss any civilisations of demi-human races or even monstrous and feral ones out there. I imagine someone will want an Elf at some point in time.

Also Star, while that is a good idea, we have to remember that this world is built to our technology level. They probably have space flight and GPS satelittes and know of everywhere in the world. That said, that doesn't mean what I put up here is the *entire* known world. That's two continents and a bunch of islands - I've pretty much just dropped Asia and the Pacific Ocean into the world, but that doesn't mean we don't have a pair of Americas and a Europe/Africa continent deal going on somewhere else in the world.

In short, if we want it, we can build it there. This is all being done on the fly, after all. If you want to RP somewhere, let it be made, and let the scenario go ahead. If no-one else takes an interest in that part, I'll be sure to step in and join in. laugh.gif

I sorta want to say that the demi-humans are spread out, more like all around. Just everyone went human first. I do like the idea of the creatures in the rugged lands, though its still open to where any creature can be at.
