i drove for miles ,

Months were known to be a drag, ones that had to be filled with anything but time to spare. Time to think to think about Nora and to have the time to feel miserable for having to leave because the tension was too great to deal with when all Shadow needed was peace. No he needed a new place and fresh mind and better self control. Staring at the light pink walls of the nursing home he worked at bored out of his mind while the clock kept ticking telling him he had been at work for five hours and now there was nothing to do but listen to an annoying beat that kept going on and on. If he was smarter he would just talk to one of the newcomers to make them feel better about being a new joint, but the savage wheelchair folk surrounded him before Philip had the chance to greet him.

Ya know sonny If I were in your shoes, Id be chasing down that person on your mind and tell em what you kept bottled up too long. Shifting his brown eyes to the gentleman standing at his side, the worker just smiled and shook his head; the older man didnt know what he was talking about. In truth he did Einora was always on his mind as much as he didnt easily admit. It was a rather frustrating mystery, theyd been friends since they were in diapers and sure they got a little experimental and he got a little cocky about it, but it was all too he didnt know. They were best buds and now they didnt talk ever. He missed his friend, she was the only one who understood him and now she wasnt there for him to see or hug or just talk to.

I may not look like what I used to be at your age, but boy sometimes you just gotta take life into your hands. You understand? I lost my opportunity long ago and I regretted it since. She died before I could ever explain anything. Why I left, why I was hurt so you see we all dont last very long here and time is a precious thing to not waste, my son. Taking what the old man had to say, Philip nodded and smiled, Thank you. Taking a good look at him, the boy stood up and the old man grinned. Looks like youre ready for your bath. Ill escort you down myself, sir. Here let me hold these There we go.

Later that day, the Shadow man found himself at his old apartment just waiting for a bright idea to pop up into his head to make a good enough reason to be there. Oh hey, dont mind me Im just looking for Mr. Giggles mouse. Whats up?. No. Ugh Hey ET. Long time no see, I was wondering if I can borrow some suga He wasnt good at just showing up at her door and trying to talk. Only once had he even tried when he left, but the laughter behind the doors made him feel uneasy and he just bolted down the stairs and just fly home. Philip wasnt perfect, but at some point hed have to eventually try being her friend again. Since he left it was all about work and never friends, then again Nora was his only friend

Sighing, he just knocked and leaned against the doorframe, mindful of his wings, as he waited for an answer from the other side.

just to find you

Nora was late getting home from work again. April had made another of her disappearing acts and it was a Wednesday to boot so she'd been chatting briefly with Damien, Derek, and the boys. She felt bad, despite the fact that she was having fun talking to them. She'd been neglecting Shadow for the last month or so since he'd moved out and it was killing her. He'd not spoken to her much, he'd just left, and she still couldn't understand why. Then again, the little faerie didn't quite see what was in front of her eyes a lot of the time. She hurried on home, wings tucked beneath her jacket as always, and moved towards her own place. The place that was very blank save for her dog, cat and that wretched bird that seemed to make far too much noise too much of the time.

Except. Today it wasn't.

There, standing in her doorway was the very person she'd been thinking about and Nora tilted her head just slightly. She moved up the front path to the house and paused, taking a slight breath before she padded further forward. She didn't even need to touch him to feel the apprehension rolling off him in waves. Nora was far too in tune with Shadow's more basic emotions, at least when they were at a strong point. The issue? There was one simple emotion she'd never picked up on, not once, and it confused her to high hell and back.

She was silent as she moved up the steps, stopping behind him and, with an almost cheeky grin, tapping him on the shoulder, passing over the other side so that he wouldn't see her. She had the door open and had stepped in all in one graceful move. It was Max that gave her away, bounding towards the door as he always did, tripping over the cat and causing her to hiss and snarl. Nora couldn't really blame her all that much. "You've not been around here in a while" she said, softly, stepping back to allow Shadow entrance before closing the door behind him. She set her bag and keys down and moved into the familiar, rather empty, space.

He would follow, she had no doubt about that, he hadn't come here to stare at her doorway, surely, meaning that he would have to come out and say whatever it was that he wanted at some point. She felt bad, she couldn't deny it, and it showed in the way that she tapped her fingers against her palm trying to calm herself. Shrugging off her jacket, her wings sprouted free, and once she let her hair down, tugging her shoes off, she looked far more comfortable than she had. Of course, she was going to change from her uniform, but that could wait, at least for the time being.

Maybe I should just try another day, he thought staring at the door with nothing more than anxiety to see her face, to smell her perfume, or to just see a smile and thatll all hell need for a lifetime. Who was he kidding, he couldnt just stop there but he couldnt just lose it either even he knew when hed gone too far with the girl. The unnerving look on her face when he felt more than just your average daily emotions, he himself didnt understand them but he knew if she didnt like it then it was best to not do the same stunt again. It was painful and it was his lesson when she gave him that expression to tone down the hype and to just leave her alone and in the end thats what he did until today.

Shadow only knocked just once more before another sigh escaped his lips finally deciding with himself to just leave and never bother again. If she didnt answer it meant she didnt want to see him or that she was at work, maybe he hoped against hope that shed refuse to open the door to let him back into her life if thats what he was here for. No it was exactly that, he needed his sanity back and she was the closest thing in the world that could make him seem whole once again.

Something called attention to his shoulder that made him turn to find nothing. Strange he would have thought but it was one of the oldest tricks in the book he would fall for because of Noras playful nature. Philip caught himself smiling in relief that he wouldnt have to leave after all until a pang of panic rattled his core with the thought of this becoming the worst backfire in history. The sound of barking put him on guard as he spread his wings out a little clearly out of being scared to heaven and back turning on his heel the angel was breathless as he saw the familiar soft eyes of his former lover and best friend, Einora. She was always so beautiful that faerie was he would muse at work when he made conversations in his head with the elderly people at the nursing home he worked at about the woman. Call him crazy but he was glad he didnt leave.

Clearing his throat the man nodded before gulping hard, Yeah. I uh.. Ive been busy. At work. Thank you. He came in at her gesture and looked around the old place empty from everything that was his. Nothing changed. Memories came back to last month before everything had happened it was a brighter place, simpler, easy before he complicated things. Yes, it was all his fault he would eventually reckon for being a stupid fool to hope in tall tales or romance and something called love. In that instant he was upset about the events his cowardly efforts to rid his friend from his life forever if possible but it never would be when it came to Einora, beautiful Nora that caught more than his attention at every level.

How are you, Einora? Its been a month, hows life? Anything new or exciting? Standing uneasy in a place he once called home Shadow regretted leaving his best friend, the girl he grew up with and protected most of their lives, for putting something between them that spoiled into such a cruel poison that even Philip himself couldnt dare poke at and yet he dared to coming here to disturb the peace and no doubt Noras sanity.

Nora lead the way in and she knew that Shadow was following her. He always did, of that she knew. She was always worried that he would hate her but, then again, he'd been the one to leave. She simply hadn't been sure how she felt, she wanted to be sure before anything happened between them. She wasn't able to commit and that, to Nora, was the most important thing. Especially since she had interest in at least two other people but was conflicted with the fact that he'd been there for her forever. It was just something that bothered her a little. He moved into the kitchen and Nora wrapped an arm around him in a hug, just as she had always done. She enjoyed the comfort that she got from it, that was for sure. She missed her friend, missed the comfort and the safety that he provided, but at the same time it just wasn't working for her. She felt bad, really bad, for him leaving too.

"Same as always, aside from the injury" she said, shrugging a little. She showed the small burn mark on her wing that had come from someone projecting too much negative energy through her for too long. Typically she didn't care about it but it was the reason she'd started hiding her wings permanently. In their old town this hadn't happened, then again she'd mostly done DJ work from home. "It's been too quiet around here though" she said, softly. She hated this, hated the fact that he'd left her just like everyone else had. They'd moved here together, he was suppose to stay and protect her, and he'd left. Perhaps it had been for the best, he obviously hadn't wanted to try and make things work with her. If he'd wanted to he would have.

She turned and put the kettle on, wanting to hide the fact that she was upset but, with an Empath, her emotions were usually clearly written. The only good part of it was that people could never tell if they were her emotions or if they were the emotions of someone else. Well, most people couldn't, unless they knew their own emotions and no-one else was around at the time. She sighed a little and went about the motions of making him his tea like she knew that he preferred it. Just the right amount of sugar and milk and everything else tat she added. She handed him the cup and took hold of her own, moving to sit at the table and gesturing for him to, wanting him to take his original seat.

Perhaps this wasn't the sanest of things to do, perhaps she shouldn't have invited him inside or made him coffee, yet she knew it was right. She knew that it felt like the right thing to do and Nora was always looking for the right thing to do in any given situation.
