Have you taken a look at your profile page today? If not, you really should, because all member profiles have undergone an upgrade. In addition to a brand new look, the new upgrade allows for additional information fields. To add or change information found in the new fields, simply visit My Controls -> Edit Profile Info and add what information you want. More fields can be added and fields can be removed, so it is possible to add a new field should there be a sufficient number of requests for it.

Now, I can revert back to the previous profile layout if a majority of members desire it, however, the new information fields will disappear. The previous profiles simply do not support extra information fields. However, I made this announcement with a poll attached to it for the purpose of obtaining an opinion on the new profiles, so even if you do not want to explain your reasoning (although I do hope that you will) you can either vote in favor of the new profiles or against them. To help you make a decision, I have uploaded two screenshots. One of the original design and the other of the new design. Keep in mind once again that the additional information fields cannot be added to the original design as additional fields are not supported by that profile version. I am sure Adam will not mind me using his as an example. I would use mine, but I currently am not using an avatar or a signature, and I wanted to showcase a profile that had both just to give everyone an idea of how both profiles look with a profile + signature.

*ahem*

I think while the new profile is more customized to this board (favorite dinosaur, etc.) it makes a poor use of space compared to the original. Is there a way to get those additional fields and "balance" the profile a little more? Right now, it looks like really bad coding with everything so lopsided.

... or for as long as I have a photobucket account, anyway... Laugh.gif

Unfortunately, I did not write the coding personally, so I cannot modify the design. I can incorporate new information fields into the code (like I did with the favorite dinosaur, current mood, etc...), but the design is something that cannot be tweaked.

I agree with your opinion, Adam, but unfortunately, there is nothing that I can do about the layout. Believe me, if I had such an ability, the profile would appear more balanced.

Are there other options (for the profile I mean)? Where did you find this code?

There is an additional add-on that I decided against, although I originally planned to include, namely a hit counter for each profile. However, I decided against that because it did not track unique hits, so the number would not truly reflect just how many visitors a person's profile has had.

Source, which I combined with the first extension. The extension script requires the first script to run.

Right now, the vote is one in favor of the new profile and one against. It would help to have some more feedback because if another vote or two is cast against the new profiles, then they will be removed in September. I go by what the majority likes or dislikes, so really, it is in everybody's interest to vote and comment.

I kind of like it. . .but it could be better, I feel like its giving off a kind of myspace vibe and i loathe that website. The food thing in my opinion is a bit unnecessary, The fav dino thing is cool. And as for the aim name, the yahoo msn nname.I don't think that many of the few active users here are going to want to tell the interweb that much information.

If they did than they would have a profile on a social networking site like face book.I hope this is the feedback that you were looking for EoG.BTW i was the one person who voted against the new profiles.

With all due respect, and I apologise in advance if EoG spent a lot of time doing this but... I prefer the old one. The old one is just simpler to look at, and like Andy-rex said the new one is too much like a networking site (deviantART has nearly the exact same fields and I don't use them much there either) Happy.gif

I'm just happy to have some more opinions to work with. I like it when people give me their honest and upfront opinions because that is what is most valuable to me. Happy.gif

Actually, those fields were there before the new profile was launched. They will be there when the original profile returns. I cannot remove or replace those fields.

Simple is fine. Happy.gif The additional fields were only meant to offer members with a greater opportunity to express themselves. I can see the point though how the additional fields would make the profile page look less attractive and contribute little in the process.

September, the votes will be reviewed, and whichever way the votes go, so will my decision.

I agree alsowith Razzie and Andy-Rex.

But, you should keep the favorite JP character and favorite dinosaur.

I cannot. The original profile unfortunately does not allow for the replacing or adding of new information fields. If the new profile goes, so does the new fields for favorite dinosaur and so on.

Meh, I'll have to go with the new, as I don't care for the food, or song or the rest, but I like the Favorite Dinosaur and JP character.

If, in September, the votes and replies are in favor of the new profile staying, we can then discuss what fields the new profile should have. If others agree with you, then some of the fields may be dropped, while others, added.
