Although this news item was released last year, the community was on the verge of being closed and so it was not reported on. In in the interest of ensuring that every member and guest of W2JP is fully informed of the status of JPIV, I am posting this piece of news:

QUOTE
JP Producers Say JP4 Plans Fallen Through
In what probably won't be a surprise to most of us, JP's long-time producers, Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall said yesterday that no new work has been done on JP4, and that Kennedy thinks that "maybe" the franchise is finished. "You know, when Crichton passed away, I sorta felt maybe that's it,"

You can read more at: Dan's JP/// Page.

As much as I would like to see a fourth movie and see dinosaurs live again on the big screen, I personally do not believe that it will be happening. People involved with the JPIV project have been discussing it now since JP/// stomped into theaters. It has been eight years and no real interest has developed to seriously pursue a fourth movie. Universal likely is not too eager to produce a movie for a franchise that makes less and less money with each installment. It probably would have been different if TLW matched or exceeded JP's earnings or if JP/// matched or exceed that which TLW took in, but that is not the case.

I hope that I am wrong though.

EoG, I think if a fourth JP ever does get released it will either be a remake of JP1 (purely because of how long it's been) or it will be a straight-to-DVD release Cry.gif

Andy-rex, JP has a new set of toys coming next month and some have already sold on eBay Happy.gif They're called Dino Battlers and although they're repaints, they're not Chaos Effect eyeball burners Laughing.gif

Perhaps Universal Studios feels we should be grateful since we did get three movies. Of course, Universal does have the rights to make a fourth movie (I originally thought they purchased the rights to up to six movies, but I think someone told me it was actually four). I'm sure Universal could still end up with a profit if JPIV was made, but maybe they want to devote money to other movie projects.

Razzie, a remake, while appealing, also has its downsides. A new cast to play the familiar and memorable characters of Grant, Malcolm and Hammond? That would take some getting used to and the movie might not be as enjoyable in my eyes if I do not like some or all of the casting choices.

It is pretty bumming that JP4 may have fallen through. Hopefully they'll seriously pursue it again. I bet any money that what would get interest going in JP4 is if the first JP was re-released into theaters. I can see them re-releasing JP for the 20th anniversary in 2013, which they should do.

It's hard to believe it's nearing a full decade since JP3. All of this time there's been no real developments on JP4. I wonder if Universal felt JP3 was a mistake and no more sequels were worth doing after that? Cry.gif

I imagine Universal was disappointed with the performance of JP///, but the movie and the merchandise still made the studio money. Could it have made more money had the script been better? Sure, and maybe Universal regrets that, but the franchise is not the problem - it is the scripts that the studio continues to greenlight that are the problem.

I am not so sure that Jurassic Park would be selected as one of the very few movies to enjoy a widespread re-release. Cry.gif A real shame too since I did not get a chance to see the original in theaters. Cry.gif Cry.gif

I'm sorry you never got to see the original JP theatrically Cry.gif I saw it twice and had the time of my life both times.

Regardless of whether or not Universal didn't like JP3, JP4 could've easily been an improvement with a better script and not being so rushed. I didn't mind JP3, but it would make a poor ending to the series and JP needs one final sequel to end the series on a high and memorable note.

neeschud.gif Rexbites incovenient truth neeschud.gif

frown.gif so this is it no more ? this fan base is slowly disapearing and without the new jp4 its going to continue doing so. its hard to beleve but its true less and less members on sites like this . jurassic park is a movie that ran out of gas on the side off the road and joe johnston drained all of that fuel, jp3 was so horrible it just died ,which struck the fatal blow which we are all experiencing right now, alot of people have given up because this movie frachise has gone no where and news has been SO rare that peple have given up hope for a sequel. for the rest of us who remain we just have to remember the good times like banner.gif

My parents would not let me go see the movie at the time because I was young and my parents read an article in the newspaper that strongly warned parents about the violent and disturbing content the movie contained. Angry.gif

With a proper script, I have no doubt that JPIV could be a hit at the theaters and surpass both TLW & JP///. The studio needs to stop rehashing the rescue theme and relying on eye-catching stunts alone to sell tickets and DVDs. A movie based on pure action alone can seldom become a blockbuster unless the fanbase is really large.

It's sad to see the fanbase slowly fading out this way. I remember all of the rampant JP4 speculation and hype since 2001 after JP3's release, and nearly a decade later, JP4 seems all but dead Cry.gif Still, I hope we can keep WTJP going for a good while.

EOG, I agree a thousand percent. With the time to craft an excellent script, JP4 could be an incredible movie and the best after the original.

The fanbase is definitely experiencing a mass migration away from Jurassic Park. This has been happening now for some time. frown.gif

I hope that, if there is a JPIV, this community will still be around to cover it and discuss it.

I think that was definitely a big reason. Even though TLW's reception was lukewarm, a lot of people would agree at least the Tyrannosaurs were done justice in the film. I don't even mind the San Diego sequence in TLW anymore, I found it a lot better than I remember after recently re-watching the trilogy.

2008 was a bad year to be a JP fan, with the deaths of Stan Winston and Michael Crichton Cry.gif I was depressed for days after hearing Stan died and felt like a part of me died with him.
